Villa in for Jonas Olsson to replace Vlaar; Seriously?

So the Mirror are saying we’re going to do the above;

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-plot-swoop-jonas-4635520

Olsson is 31 and according to Wiki, signed a four year contract in October 2012.
So unless we get incredibly lucky, given our record of over-paying for players, we aren’t going to get him on a free transfer.
Or are we? I’ll leave you to debate that, but I’ll bet he’s on top wages, even if we do get him for nothing.

So what am I getting at?
Well, quite simply I can only see this as another way of Randy Lerner pocketing a couple of million quid.

I don’t have anything against Olsson. He’s a decent, experienced defender, who’s being kept out by Lescott.
But is he on a par with Vlaar?
Or, more in line with what we should be looking for as fans, is he an improvement?
I suspect we’d all agree that he’ll be nothing of the sort.

Of course, it could be that we’re bringing him in purely as backup, given the crocks that we already have.
Which would be fine if that’s all it is.
So why do I suspect that he’ll be expected to go straight into the team?

Hmm, £4-5 million in for Vlaar and Ollson will cost around £1.5 million. It’ll be “undisclosed” of course, as most of our transfers are these days, so we’ll never know the facts.

So that’ll be another few quid in Lerner’s pocket, while he throws us the usual bone of around £5 million to spend in the winter window (which was par for the course years ago, remember).
In the meantime, it depresses me to think some will be praising him for it, because of how “times are hard” etc.
Yes, incredibly hard, if you haven’t received an extra £30 million a season from Sky: which the club has.

Even if this deal doesn’t happen, you can bet your last couple of bob that something like it will, in my opinion.

And still the fans don’t complain.

  1. Not sure about Kozak, but sounds like Okore will be back against Saints. Hope he plays well and cements a place in the team, looked fairly decent before his injury.

    1. Is that the same Okore who’s hinting he might be off in January?

      http://www.suttoncoldfieldobserver.co.uk/Okore-ruling-Villa/story-24547604-detail/story.html

This is beginning to become utterly laughable, imo.

I know it’s a sign of the times where players are all too happy to bitch if they’re not playing, but these sort of comments just seem to be coming far too often down the Villa.

And probably rightly so, as it’s not as though the regulars are coming up with the goods and getting us results, are they?

If you’re on the sidelines and not getting a game, how must it feel to consistently watch mediocrity losing, while still not getting a chance?

I’m now convinced many of the players really don’t rate the manager at all, myself and it’s no wonder it seems many want out.

“Sinking ship” isn’t quite the right words, to me atm.

      1. It’s scary to think that Bacuna hates Keane and Okore hates Lambert, two of probably Lambert’s best “bargain” signings. Both needlessly and in many ways stupidly being left out as well. And the sad thing is, we’re looking at a RB? Where Hutton, Lowton and Bacuna (in Lambert’s mind) are all somewhat good enough? I doubt we’ll sign him now Bilic wants him at Besiktas but is this what we’re seriously looking for? One of the few positions we don’t need someone at? Of course it’s all media so I have my doubts, and then theirs the Ranger’s youngster, who will come in, never be played, get angry and leave as well. Honestly don’t think it’s defenders we should be looking at, as we’ll keep Lambert, we need some kind of creativity desperately, that will basically ignore everything Lambert says and has a go.

        1. Well Andrew, we hate them both, or do we? Badgers right there just something not right in that dressing room, or the club, we lose nearly every week and he comes up with I thought we player brilliant, I thought we was magnificent, yet certain players get ignored, their is no consistency for players wanting to play seeing the club fail in every department. It must show he don’t know what he’s doing, I’m for getting him out.

          1. the manager has alot to answer 2, i am judging him on this season alone and said that from day 1.but he has failed 2 improve the whole club infrastructure,it was already in-placed it only needed tweaking, alarmingly no youth player has progressed under his rein. grealish and robinson were already in the pipeline, but they have been hindered rather than brought on.

okore and bacuna both of these are young and both are not finished by any stretch, they need proper guidance and nurturing, this seems 2b a flaw in lambert. bacuna looked last season a decent prospect, wasn’t a defender and was playing there really as a wing back like today’s formation the full backs are providing width , but wot he lacked at the back, showed he can attack and shoot well, crossing was off thou but with games would av developed, okore also showed plenty pace and strength, had the attributes 2 be a good defender, then got injured and has looked poor in games i av seen since his comeback.

its established we haven’t the money to compete with top 6 before lambert arrived and since his been ere, we have now started to compete with bottom 5 premiership to top 10 championship, if lambert cant produce the kids, ready for top level football, then its time 2 spend loads of lerners wealth on quality finished players or get a manger that can improve home grown players and younger cheaper players from across the country and abroad.

lerner must not be forgotten in this mess hes responsible more than anyone. lamberts failed…. its season 3 and hes done nothing to show he can manage a bad situation, if theirs no money, we have to develop players like dario gradi did over his career.

    1. No one can argue with that Nath, not even me, we have a massive headache with Lambert’s ideas, until it stops making money for Lerner, and he understands why, we are in queer street , its sad to have to stop buying, stop going, when its your love, I’m joining the many fans, in turning my back.

  2. is it just me or is it deathly quiet down at the Villa at the moment.

Has AVFC officially closed for business – and they have just forgetten to tell us???????

    plain mean that

  3. so what has Okore done to upset Lambert.
    Here is my guess.
Lambert – have i told you i won the champions league
Okore – yes about 10 times – So what – you are a crap manager.

  4. Careful Nath, if your seen supporting the club or speaking positively about our manager on an anti villa site you could get yourself into bother.

    1. i revel in trouble like a pig in mud 🙁 iam annoyed yes lamberts failed, but iam not celebrating B6. i want our club to rock again and this means lerner has to walk the plank, cos fans are deluded if they think another manager will grace our great club, while he lerners is owner. top players want to win trophies and so do the best managers, lerners hired some duds and hes got nothing left to offer the club

nice to hear from u b6

    2. B6, so you think we’re anti Villa?
You need to read around the other Villa sites, a couple apart.
We are not alone in complaining.

I did have a long post replying to you, but deleted it before I posted it, as it’s a waste of time.

You think supporters should blindly support, whatever.
      Nath is the same.
And that’s fair enough; it’s a perfectly valid view, which will always be allowed on here, as I’m 100% sure we all want to feel positive about the club (even though we’re supposedly anti Villa).

My money says you are currently in a very small minority though.

      Question;
Do you really think the regular posters on here would keep on posting as long as they have if they didn’t genuinely care about the club?

      1. Small minority? Now aint that the truth. Have a look around any of the Villa sites/Blogs and they hardly awash with optimism.

      2. Badger…anyone can post constant negative stuff and very very occasionally post something positive. My point is that practically every post on this site is negative. When we win the performance will get negative posts. When someone has had a good game that players one mistake will get mentioned. When we sign a player they’re slated and disrespected before a ball has been kicked.
Do I think regular posters post because they care? Maybe they do but they obviously care about moaning and finding constant fault about anything and everything. If people are just going to constantly moan and be negative then to me that’s being anti villa…..but that’s MY opinion.

        1. sorry but your opinion means feck all to me. i can only go by what i see and hear coming from aston villa football club and i don’t like what i see. when was the last time we signed a player that made you say YES . the like of joe cole being signed and playing feck all games so far this season and picking up at least 25-30k a week and for what. every thing stinks we are just in the premier league to survive . our owner has lost interest and our fans have become disillusioned or complacent . im fed up and i guess at least 99% of villa fans are but that does not mean we are anti villa.

        2. B6 why don’t you start your own blog? How about Villakischer Beobachter?
You could report general news but also club activities, presenting them as almost constant success.

  5. Trust me when I say Lambert would find a way to have Bayern Munich or Barcelona in a relegation scrap if he was their manager.

The players have on the field doesn’t make fuck all difference whilst we have this man in charge.

  6. spot on B6. if you win 2, 3, 4-1 etc they just moan about not keeping a clean sheet or the other team are shit. or we are just ‘papering over the cracks.
I have noticed that most of the positive (commited) fans now give this site a wide berth. other blogs do at least offer a ‘balanced view and debate’. its easy to complain when times are bad. i say this to you ‘negatives’, carry on whingeing, but DONT come back when times get better (and they will). we dont need at our great club. and while your at it go and look up these 2 simple words.
    1. loyalty
    2. support
then go away and decide whether or not you deserve to wear the colours of this great club.

    1. Ermm on much reflection the only thing that springs to mind is (and I choose my words carefully) is f**koff dickhead.

    2. Committed villan what utter bollox.you maybe up the clubs arse, since when have you been the clubs monitor deciding who should & who shouldn’t wear the shirt.fucking twat

    3. Where is the clubs loyality and support to us!!! take our money for crap football.. Yep thats it you talk shit Committed at best.
Things are a two way street.

    4. You will never be allowed a balanced debate in here. We all know times are bad, yet it’s the same old dreary whinging day in day out. Its that bad at VP I have heard that Bill and his sheep (real fans) are going to “Do something about it” and stage a protest Monday night……………

          1. Curry was shit, the rice was cold, naan was burnt and the papadums where soggy but mate it’s brilliant I never go anywhere else.

  7. If i was anti villa i wouldn’t post at all nor give a shit.
2 seasons ago Lambert equals our worst home record in our history
Last season he beats it and this season he is on course to do it again.
Surely this all can’t be attributed to bad luck.
Our best players (who are average) want out and to be honest who can blame them.
and Nath you asked me what i have won and the answer is F*** All but i think i deserve a medal for watching the crap served up down the villa over the last few years.
At one point we had more points than shots. last 7 games – 6 losses – 1 draw – 1 goal.
One other point Lambert like all managers have there favourites but can any body tell why he can’t give Gardner a chance or why since Grealish signing a contract hasn’t even been on the bench or why Okore who was supposed to be the next best thing isn’t get a look in.
O’Neil started the rot by basically jumping ship when told he couldn’t waste anymore money and now we have his 2 stooges carrying it on.
I would rather have Pulis – it might not be pretty – but at least he seems to know what he is doing. You can tell by the way his teams are set up. Where as with Lambert the players don’t know how they are set up.
We are Aston Villa for crying out loud and as Graham Taylor famously said a Shambles.
Better get on with some work now.

    1. well steve i thank you for your well constructed reply and without insults 🙂
you absolutely spot on with all you say, except i take a different view to who’s the real culprit 2 our downfall

ask yourself why lambert was handed a extension,???? wasn’t cos he was improving aston villa overall, wasn’t for the records you speak off, wasn’t cos of his success in the transfer market or bringing through our home grown talents.

i agree a new manager is needed and where we differ, i believe change is needed higher up first, you see my views are, if lerner is remaining, new manager will face the same closed doors, no money, no ambitions, no direction. managers are like players they want to win things.or simply av a chance to shine. at villa we are big club with big ambition, but this is not matched by our small budget.

lerner gave lambert a new contract, cos hes able to work under his restrictions and not kick up a fuss, when a decent offer is made for benteke, lerner will accept and lambert will not kick up a fuss. ambition needs to start right at the top, all the way down through the club and thats why if you get another manager, same outcome will happen, after the boost a new manager usually brings at the start,we will sink into same old doldrums

      1. I’ll agree to disagree
I reckon if you add it all up Lambert has had a lot more money to spend than half the teams in the Premier league during is tenure. We are just so boring to watch most of the time.
We obviously get the odd period when we play well but they are all to infrequent.
A few (of many) tactical things that just amaze me :
        1) Albrighton in the centre of midfield.
        2) The opposition left back always seems to have half the field to run into.
        3) Weimann right side of midfield. If he is in the team he must play alongside a striker.

The sad thing is we are playing Southampton at home on Monday and i bet most villa fans are expecting us to lose (again) before a ball is kicked. I hope not.

        1. http://www.fanatix.com/news/premier-league-table-by-net-spend-201314-chelsea-and-manchester-city-spend-big/146200/

          http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/picturegalleries/11045411/Premier-Leagues-biggest-summer-spenders.html?frame=3011757

last season and this season transfers compared to the rest of the premier league teams, i agree with you to disagree, your having a laugh if you consider the rise in tv money, coincide with lerners tight ass spending.this is the reason lamberts in the job, but as long as fans complain to the manager, he lerners runs away with the tv

          1. And just what the f**k is that supposed to mean? Tried it on Google translate but no luck. Are you the biggest 50 year old bell end in Manchester with your juvenile text speak?

          2. bws it means when premiership teams has increased their spending, when television and satellite revenues have increased each year, aston villa have been decreasing spending. its simple in txt and quicker but if your owner hasn’t (has not) got ambition, it spreads though your club like a wildfire. aston villa will not hire a manager with ambition, until lerner sells. because lerner does not want to spend another penny or dime on the club he doesn’t have too.

wished we could meet up and chat about my lack of knowledge or my communication skills and sure it would be a waste of time my time, as you wouldn’t meet up or say what you just have face to face.

          3. Where shall we meet outside the Villa ticket office after you finish work?
I’ll be wearing a red carnation but how will I recognise you? Oh of cause that’ll be easy – I’ll smell the bullshit from miles away.

          4. iam glad you think iam bulshit 🙂 you won’t mind handing out your email. then i can contact you then we can discuss this matter in person.

          5. bill you know one day somebody will call your bluff, can’t belief your being a ass ~ i was posting my opinions and they are valid, if you can’t pick holes in what i say, then u decide to to pick holes in how i say or where i live, you wanna debate instead of baiting ppl

          6. BWS be careful wondering what type of kiss he’s on about, it sounds a bit UN Christmas that. Don’t think I’m getting one off Helenius this year, he don’t like sheep.

  8. I’d like to know when have we had positivity out of Villa Park, every fan should get a medal for even being a fan at the minute, to me the ones that say that Villa are crap are the positive fans that care.the ones that sit on the fence are not.

    1. Morning Bill it shows that fans have passion mate, seeing our club being dragged down by certain monkeys who ain’t a Fucking clue is totally heartbreaking.I speak from the heart like most on here, there’s reality & fucking fantasy time to fucking wake up.

  9. not spent a penny all year and sorry to say I wont until things change.
I love the Villa but I dont love the brand of football, it is clueless, not giving it a go worst football in the EPL

      1. Hi Bill tell you what mate wish I was a proper fan, I mean just what the f**k have we got to moan about?
Well that is apart from having scored 1 goal and reaped a grand total of a single point from a possible 21 in our last 7 games and that we are 4 points off the bottom with the second equal worst goal difference the the Premier league.
Oh and the fact we’ve put the ball in the net 5 times in 11 games which incidentally is the worst goal scoring record of any team from the Sky Bet League Two up to and including the Premier League.
How ffs can anyone complain about that? Mate it’s beyond words.
Come on now there’s just so much to be positive about, I mean there’s a curry night at Villa Park and we’ve even erected a Lamp post!
Everything’s just hunky dory, we’re living the dream mate, living the dream.

  10. Hope your getting ready to play the shite again folks down at the sty.The championship beckons my friends…All we can hope for is that there are worse teams than us in the prem.Even if we survive we still have Lerner who won’t buy top flight players or make money available for them. Also Paul Lamberts wheels have definately come off and are punctured unrepareable Doomed I say Doomed….

  11. Villa are refusing to hold minute’s silence mark the 40th anniversary in memory of the dead victims of the Birmingham pub bombings
Just what the f**k is going on down at VP?

        1. What can we say the club goes from bad to worse, i think the reason is they cant charge a fee for the silence. An utter shambles. Please can someone rid us of this missery

        2. No one asking them to make a political statement or take sides just remember 21 that died and 222 injured, these where Brummies, our own, innocent kids that had just gone for a night out. They deserve to be remembered.
          I’m simply appalled.

  12. It would not happen in Liverpool. I lost a girlfriend at the Mulberry Bush. BWS I echo your sentiments.

    1. OLL, Bill sorry to both for your loss.
If I feel Villa are nailing their colours to a specific mast I’ll never set foot inside Villa Park or have anything to do with the club again.

  13. Paul Lambert has accused the Swiss FA of “poor man-management”.
Thats a classic Paul cause we’ve thought the same about you for the last 2-and-a-half-years at Villa!!

    1. I don’t get why this has become an issue giddy we have never done a mins silence for pub bombings before and no one complained so why now? Don’t get me wrong I’m all for a minutes silence as pub bombings was arguably the blackest day in Brums history certainly in modern times.

      1. Ooha I can’t remember a decade ago let alone 2 or 3 decades mate,so fuck knows what happened at VP around this time.I’m angered by the clubs initial response which highlighted the issue for me now.

    1. Is a minutes applause really appropriate? Not in my opinion but at least it seems the penny as finally dropped with the powers that be down at VP and I suppose it’s better than nothing.

    2. Giddy what makes it worse is it was more than likely than not that it was American funding
      behind the atrocity.

        1. NORAID money from Boston (Massachusetts) is believed to be behind the bombing of the UK mainland in the 70’s and 80’s including the Birmingham Pub Bombings.

  14. It will always stick in my mind their initial decision,im sure on the 21st min the fans would of paid their respects even without the clubs backing.fucking stupid decision in the first place.

  15. Good relationship with Birmingham people is what they should be looking at, a ,Yank, a Jock, a Southerner, couldn’t give a toss, about this city of ours, I hope they do remember them poor soles. I will.

  16. We are in free fall and that point won’t matter squat when we play Southampton.I expect nothing but a defeat.Going down..

  17. of centre here but giroud in line to make comeback for gunners 11 weeks after breaking leg kozak broke his start of jan what is it about villa that everything is shite including treatment room

    1. That’s completely ridiculous. Broken legs happen differently and not every single one is going to take the same amount of time. Kozak was unfortunate to have a setback, Giroud is far more fortunate (for now) not too have one. These things happen.
