Villa – Everton; another six pointer

I’m sure none of us need to be told how important this game is.
Quite simply, if Leicester beat Newcastle (very likely), Sunderland beat Southampton (not very likely, but you never know) and we lose, we’re back in the bottom three again.

Prior to the Man City game, I was feeling incredibly upbeat about our chances of survival, but we’ve been dragged back into it somewhat and I’m now feeling just a little nervous again.
I still think we’ll be ok, but getting the points that would move us up the table would just be nice.

Our five previous meetings against Everton at home aren’t very encouraging, with us having won one, drawn two and lost two.
And apparently Everton tore Man Utd a new proverbial last week, so it’s not as though they’ve got their suitcases packed, even though they’re quite safe, with nothing really to play for.
So we know it’s going to be a tough game.

Injury wise, Everton aren’t doing to badly and might be able to field an unchanged side.

Villa, on the other hand, have Clark and Baker out for the rest of the season and Gabby still has a tight Hamstring, if he hasn’t actually been dropped, that is. I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, as while I think we actually look a better side without Gabby, he’s actually got more goals against Everton than any other Premier league player. And his pace always makes him a useful asset, even if only as an impact player later in a game.

On the upside, Hutton returned to training this week, but you’d have to think that this game is probably too soon for him.
Sinclair is available again, as is Sendoros, who might well be needed, if Vlaar or Okore get crocked.

Seeing that we didn’t pay Man City much respect last week, I’d expect us to go all out to get the three points.
And given that this fixture often produces goals, I’m going for more than two overall.
Our defence makes me worry, so we’re going to concede at least one in my opinion.
But we have the capability to score now.
Hence I’m going for a 2-1 win to us.

Here’s hoping, eh?

  1. Was certain 2-1 until I got to the bookies then went 3-1. If we’re on the front foot with pace from kick off we can win this.

  2. Morning villains! Im expecting a lot from this game. I thoroughly expect it to be entertaining and we walk our with the points!

  3. I reckon it’ll certainly be entertaining, whatever happens Mr C.
    Sherwood doesn’t do boring.

  4. No problem….we WILL win Leicester will lose or draw. West Ham will beat Burnley, Liverpool will stuff QPR. Sunderland will draw or lose and Arsenal will beat Hull on Monday.

    We fear NOBODY!

    1. Love it Langford. Was so down after being robbed of a point last week. Not a good record against Everton lately – 3 straight defeats and they are on a very good run so thinking this has draw written all over it.

Still must be positive so I’m going for Villa 2-1.

  5. Even a draw would be ok if my other predictions come up. If both Burnley and QPR lose today they are certaintes to go down IMO. Ithink the Leicester bubble has burst and Newcastle will be pumped up following 7 straight losses.

H60…. Hope you enjoyed your trip….welcome back!

    We fear NOBODY!

    1. Draw is good enough today if we can’t win it don’t fcuking lose it

    2. Great trip – it’s always a moving experience visiting the WW1 cemeteries. Sort of puts life into perspective.

      1. So what? Newcastle are just 3 points above us, if we win we drag them down. And we go above them due to GD, don’t see how this is a problem.

  6. We don’t win today we will be well in the shit.Saying that I thouroughly expect us to beat the toffees today I’m going 3-1 to us UTV

    1. Unless Sunderland lose, which they will, and we’re exactly in the same situation we currently are…

  7. Newcastle will be on the way dooooon man if we beat Everton way eye

  8. We really need to win today to leapfrog Newcastle and we need Southampton to do us a favour and give Sunderland a thumping.

    1. We can do em,Everton are in form but so are we I reckon we will score a good 2 or 3 today.Im very encouraged slaaaaaags lol Sherwoods army

  9. Claret n blue is the color Villans is our name eat toffees & shit em out mi back end VTID

  10. Btw, how is this a 6 pointer? Isn’t a six pointer when you’re playing someone else in the relegation battle? Everton aren’t.

    1. Fair enough comment Bencey.
Maybe not a 6 pointer in that sense, but still very important in my eyes.

    1. My biggest thing is I don’t get how people think on here. They have to realize we’re not going down if we lose all 4 games if Sunderland don’t pick up points, or I hope they realize it.

  11. Newcastle better be hoping that Sunderland can’t get 5 points in their next 4, which will be difficult anyways, but they better be hoping.

        1. The devil you do the devil you don’t, if guzan fucked up again who would you of blamed Guzan or Sherwood for picking him????

          1. Guzan. But then I’m not all that convinced by Given. Despite a few good cup games.

  12. VILLA: Given, Bacuna, Vlaar, Okore, Richardson, Westwood, Cleverley, Delph, N’Zogbia, Grealish, Benteke. Subs: Guzan, Sinclair, Weimann, Cole, Hutton, Sanchez, Senderos.

EVERTON: Howard, Baines, Jagielka, Lukaku, Mirallas, Naismith, McCarthy, Barry, Coleman, Lennon, Stones. Subs: Robles, McGeady, Kone, Besic, Barkley, Osman, Alcaraz.

  13. Strong decision to drop Guzan – I like that kind of thing.

The Premier League should just relegate Newcastle today – they are bloody dreadful

  14. I think we can keep Leicester out the relegation equation now their on a roller hull still in it & I think you can also bring the barcodes into it.

  15. If Sunderland didn’t have a ridiculous run of 5 games, and I don’t see more than them getting 1-2 more points, Newcastle would be screwed. They’re trying to get themselves relegated.

  16. I hope we’ve got too much pace / movement going forward for them today – they’re no slouches either. Big game for our full backs.
