Villa 1- 2 Spurs; Another home loss

So I sneaked out of work early to make sure I could at least watch the second half of the game, only to find that the site had gone down again.
Pulling my hair out, I got in touch with the site host and they rebooted the services, which got the site up again.
Hopefully things will be ok now, but rest assured, if there are further problems, they’ll only be temporary. We’re not going anywhere.

Anyway, the truth is because I was trying to sort the site out, I didn’t actually get to see much of the game.
What I did see though, looked reasonably encouraging, as we were working hard as per usual.
Until Benteke got sent off.

I didn’t see what happened beforehand (if anything), but it seemed to me Benteke blatantly shoved the opposition player in the back and there was some retaliation.
Then the argy-bargy started and importantly, I thought one of the Spurs players all but head-butted Benteke, which is what led to the big fella shoving him in the face.
Once you do that though, there can only be one decision and the red was correctly given, if the ref hadn’t seen the near head-butt.

What a choker, as not only have we lost this game, but it means we miss Benteke for the next three games.

And then it all went to script really, didn’t it?
Gabby doesn’t even bother tracking his man from a corner and Chadli sneaks around the back for an easy goal.
And then Kane scores from a free kick, albeit with a massive deflection from Baker which left Guzan stranded.

That’s six defeats on the trot; the worst record in seven years, I believe.
It just seems like nothing whatsoever is going right for us and it’s very hard to swallow.

Personally, I don’t think Spurs deserved to win and we didn’t deserve to lose. Thought we looked better than them even with 10 men. Don’t know what Benteke was doing – can’t get away with that! Referee was very poor. Didn’t diffuse the situtation at all. And Vlaar, as captain should have settled the Villa players down on behalf of Lambert. Weimann was lucky he didn’t get sent off too and Westwood didn’t stop mouthing at the ref. Lack of discipline cost us the game. But to be fair, at least it shows they care. Can’t say they didn’t want it!

Bencey83, had the ref blown for a foul on Benteke none of that would have gone on, having said that Spurs should have had a defender sent off with two yellow, pluss both Benteke and the Spurs player he did make contact with his head. As for Abonglahor he’s getting worse, he failed to mark their first goal that was down to him, he won’t move or get motivated in a game.

Dear oh dear, a terrible lack of discipline from Benteke but really thought they would both go as he was clearly butted. Then Chadli slid in to a tackle with his studs about a yard off the ground, a clear straight red, but got away with a yellow and went on to score the equaliser. We have West Ham away and then Southampton….. I really cannot see us getting anything from those two games…. I think we are in the brown stuff again..

It’s aright blaming Benteke but at the end of the day if it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t have been wining in the first place the rest of the team are shit and it’s lambert fault can’t believe we gave a lot of the players new contracts and the manager Lerner must hate us but at least his gonna lose a lot of money now

Strange game there is a definate sense of doom around the place you just new what was going to happen after they made it 1-1. There was not allot between the teams today but we have so little quality i think today is the best we can play so look in real trouble. I heard a very strong rumour Tony Pullis could be about to get the job whatever happened today, we will see……… but why the hell was lambert given that new contract

Decent first half from Villa, unlucky only to be 1-0 up. But Spurs were there for the taking today and ended up with 0 points and a sixth straight defeat. Benteke lost his head, which is gutting as he looked back to his old self.

However, the two goals that we conceded were piss poor. Agbonahor has nowhere on that corner which was just floated to the back post. Terrible challenge by Sanchez for the other…but why hadnt he been subbed, he had obviously run out of energy??

Without Benteke and Delph i doubt we will get anything at West Ham and if we do lose 7 straight games, surely it has to mean the end for Lambert…??

Our only way out of defence was NZogbia, a bit late against Man City! Cue Lamberk, he takes him off so we have no outlet! Both games we get backed up to the edge of our own area and concede twice! Benteke culpable today but Lamberk to blame, again!

I expected a drubbing and was surprised to see exactly how poor Spurs are. Vertonghen, Chadli and Wilson very very lucky to stay on, ref had a stinker. But a loss is a loss.
Saying that I thougt for large chunks we were the better side and actually attacked rather than just sit back and counter.
Shame we lose Benteke now and have to rely on the terrible Agbonlahor, the beast looked a handful

Can’t blame the ref for Gabby not tracking his man for equaliser or the unnecessary foul given by Sanchez. Before Benteke went of they could easily have banged a couple in. The team sat back and invited pressure which is what we do anyway even with 11 men. Lamberks tactics are shitbabout

Agree AndyB – NZog should never have been taken off! Thought he was surely going to take off Weimann, as he looked like he was definitely going to get sent off too! Sanchez looked a bit off the pace, but I think he’ll come good. Thought we were pretty unlucky today and Spurs were poor.

You all sound like Lambert cloans at the minute.
The thing is, if people think that performance was acceptable then that makes you as bad as Lambert and Lerner.
How many defeats will it take to get rid of this idiot and for the cardboard cut-outs that attend home matches to start calling for this baffoons head?

The word you were looking for is “clone” clown. Nobody on here as far as I can see is defending Lambert or Lerner, just giving an objective view on the game. Without being that good we were looking at a win until Benteke was sent off. That doesn’t excuse the previous capitulations but it’s how it was today.

Our luck has run out, and like most teams at the bottom that’s the way it seems to go. It is time for Lambert to go but given the previous selections what would make anyone feel confident that his replacement would be better? Pulls would clearly stabilise the team and get us to mid table but ultimately that would not be enough.

We are more likely to get some other no hoper and realistically, who of any quality would actually want the job?

They base the attendance on tickets sold including season tickets. So if we assume we sold 20,000 sts and one person turned up the attendance would be given as 20,0000. Today most season ticket holders didn’t go but were counted as going anyway. Why they do it like that I don’t know.

I feel the same JayDee. All too predictable. With 6 minutes or so to go I turned to my son and said I can see us losing this, and walked out to make the dinner, We are way short of what we need and Lambert has to shoulder the blame, with Lerner a close second.

It’s hard to get wound up about it as it has gone on so long. Apathetic is more like it.

You’ve hit the nail on the head DSVilla, we are predictable, every team knows that (Bar Lambert) I feel the same as yourself, Jay Dee, and many others. But can you honestly see Lerner sacking Lambert? in the coming months? I cannot, 4 year contract he’ll take it to the wire Yanks do that, you and I mean fuck all to them in Businesses, we are stuck with the Get.

We could easily lose the next couple of games and I think he would be sacked, even with his longer contract. We would be in the bottom 3 with the worst current form, with a January window coming up. It will cost Lerner a fortune for us to get relegated so better to change manager and spend £15m to stay up. It’s a big and potentially costly gamble either way really.

Hate to admit it but I was cheering for Spuds today. A flukey win would only keep the eejit in a job longer.
Lambert needs to go and Lerner has to drop the price to £50 to give someone else the chance to fuck up considerably less.
Played better but still far from convincing. The anger in our team was desperate and over the top…which in turn added to Bentekes sending off and a narrow escape for Andy.

After 5 minutes groping around we had a 10 minute spell of all out attack. Spurs back four looked vulnerable under pressure we scored a good goal, when our “left” winger popped up on the right, his cross was neatly finished by Weimann.

Then? Ah, as we all could guess – we sat back and let Spurs find their feet. Why – well that’s Lambert. Despite Spurs coming into it they did not look like fashioning a chance from open play. You cannot blame anyone but the big Belgian burke himself, for reacting to provocation, which he is now going to get everywhere for the next season. But as if a switch had been flicked the 10 men went back to the hassle ’em tactic all over the pitch and it looked as if we might hang on, barring a corner or free kick. I feel sorry for the rest of the team, Benteke has let them down, they deserved at least a draw today.

I cannot see this team staying up. The luck they need to keep a thin squad injury free has gone. Cissoko, Bent and Richardson are woefully short of Premiership standard.

Let’s get a couple of things straight. That was the worst Spurs team I’ve seen in a while and we couldn’t take advantage in a held of football that we looked dominant in. we looked vulnerable at the back again particularly Lowtons side. Spurs were never going to be as bad as that in the second half. Benteke was stupid in his reaction and that cost us dear. However, Gabby’s marking was shocking for that first goal. I’ll wager that most teams winning when they have a man down grind out a result. Most villans knew that when they got their first they would score again. Lamberk did nothing to halt the tidal wave of attack when Kane came on. What’s the point in putting bent on and fizzing balls up past his forehead? Sadly, there is no way Lamberk is getting the bullet even when we get relegated so there’s no point in talking about it. See you all in the sky bet championship.

Baggie in peace. Its very sad to watch such a large club fall apart in such a manner. Little fight, in fact nobody from top to bottom seems to be bothered. And in reality its all fine margins, be it a poor referee, a crossbar or anything else, but for any one of these things you could and probably should have been mid table tonight. The one thing we both have in common is that we can forgive most things when you can see our overpaid players at least fighting for our shirts, sadly that appeared to be missing today. I seriously hope you solve your issues, but like most of you i doubt that will happen with the current management. Good luck.

yes benteke shouldnt reacted like he did but if ref had blew for first foul wouldnt happen going by the letter of law yes he had to go but 2 footed tackle just before it should as well and the spurs player who put his head in benteke should as well
but talking about ref hides another masterclass from lambert wiemen is booked running around like a headless chicken looking for another takes of zog then puts on richardson why not grealish somebody to hold the ball up then puts bent on for 3 mins and wonders why players cant stand him
our luck 4years fighting relegation up we going down like to see lerner sell then
