Young in Villa return? Wrong for so many reasons.

The Daily Mail have apparently suggested that Ashley Young might return to the Villa and I have to say it just made me laugh.
First off, I believe Young is on around £120,000 a week. Would he really be willing to take a pay cut of around £100,000 a week to come to us? It’s just a crazy notion.

Then, there’s the transfer fee, where apparently United would be willing to take less than the £17 million they paid us for him.
How about £12 million less? No, I don’t think so and that’s even if we could afford £5 million.
Which we can’t, if the all-in spend of £10 mill including wages is true.

So maybe we’re talking about a loan?
I doubt it myself, as I just don’t think Young is Lambert’s kind of player.

I rated Young highly at the Villa and he gave us some really good moments. Who could forget that goal at Goodison, for instance? But I often criticised him for his diving. Indeed, didn’t he even dive in a game against us? I forget exactly, but I’m pretty sure he did.
I’m not sure how you’d feel about him returning, but my feeling is it’d be doomed to fail.
And even if you dislike the player, it’d at least be a sign of us showing some ambition.

So in short, it just isn’t going to happen is it?

In other news, Roy Keane has categorically said he isn’t going to be Villa’s next manager, when he was specifically asked in an interview.
The mind boggles. While I don’t think for one minute he will be (and definitely hope not, as he’s been useless up to now imo), what was he supposed to say?
“Yeah, I’m here to pinch Lambert’s job”?

So, both non-stories then.

Paul Faulkner gone, this has to be the best news ever……. Is there a sale imminent or was ooh ah correct and Lerners supposed sale news was just a cover for his penny pinching.

Erm…did none of you see Lerner’s statement last night? It was to the effect that as long as no buyer has been found we’ll go again…and prepare for next season. It did sound like a bit of a u turn. My mate was just gobsmacked on what’s happening at Villa…

      OohAhPaulMcGrath

no u turn that was all part of the ploy. apparantly only sold 9000 sts im surprised we sold that many tbh

Don’t agree with you Oohah. Club is def for sale. Lerner’s comment is just a business as usual pending that happening. Faulkner leaving is probably part of that focus on getting ready for next season. I don’t really care either way about Faulkner. He has just been replaced by another non-football puppet that counts beans for Lerner. It looks like his leaving has cost little or nothing and that will work for Lerner, and also ensure there is no compensation payment due from any new owner so i guess it’s good all round.

Officially we are up for sale unofficially we arnt. Either way we are stuck in limbo for at least another season

I think we will be sold before the end of next season, possibly a lot earlier. I don’t know if Faulkner leaving shows this is getting nearer but it will happen. There are a small number of interested parties, and they all know the going rate. If one of them comes near Lerner’s valuation then a deal can be done. These things are notoriously slow. Unfortunately, it makes sense for Lerner to be tight with costs/investment so let’s hope its before Xmas so we can address some of the deficiencies in January.

      2. Oohah use your loaf mate, profits will now sore because there’s more pies, someone said he was eating them, think it was you? Anyway one down two to go, its a start, fatty Faulkner was a creep around Lerner hope who ever takes that job will speak up for the club and move us up.

This Faulkner leaving just seems too… Odd for something not to be happening.

    1. Andrew avatar

Seems he’ll be replaced on a temporary basis from what I’ve read.

        Off the Birmingham Mail

Faulkner was offered a non-operational role at #avfc. Ie. New owner is bringing his own team. Takeover imminent from where I’m sat.

I’m going on record (again) we will be sold in the next few weeks #avfc IMO

        2. Andrew I’ll take what you think as an opinion & not a fact as I can’t see anything happening for the foreseeable future were stuck with that dickhead for now plain & simple.

          1. Andrew avatar

But that wasn’t even my opinion, those as I clearly pointed out are tweets that were put on the Birmingham Mail…

          2. Then why go on the record saying we’ll be sold in a few weeks isn’t that classed as an opinion?

I don’t have twitter. That was a tweet on the Birmingham Mail from TheEgo74.

            No biggie,

  4. Andrew I wished I could share your enthusiasm mate, but miracles are far from Villa park as flying a kite. Fatty Faulkner was I believe taking a job at the F.A some weeks ago, so where has this come from, If Villa is sold why are they holding back? Seats down, sponsers, missing ,boxes not sold, so why are we going to be sold in a few weeks ,would you not want money in the till before being sold. I’m still not convinced till who ever walks through the doors of Villa park.

IncogAVFC has tweeted that despite todays events a takeover is not happening at present and that apparently Darren Bent will be leaving the club, and he’ll be replaced by Bendtner.. two completely different views, everything is up in the air.

    1. Andrew avatar

Swap deal? Bendtner’s a free agent. I guess we can swap Bendtner and Bent and Bent can be owned by Bendnter’s agent.

Is we’re going to be taken over by GW and the club will be raped then he’ll leave after 2 years on the os?

  9. Andrew avatar

Either way, Danish paper claims we could sign Bendtner as early as this week. Seems as a replacement to Bent who looks off I guess. Doesn’t matter, we need a winger still.

  10. Plus a left back.

    1. Andrew avatar

Definitely a Left Back, but I hope we don’t make the mistake again of putting a striker like Weimann out on the right.

  11. BRAZIL WHO??????????

  12. Bendtner….although a dickhead off the pitch would be a sensible signing with neither Kozak or Benteke likely to be available for the beginning of the season and Bent likely to move on. Who does that leave to net goals for us as neither Gabby or Weimann are prolific!
It also makes financial sense as there is not a fee to payso his wages would be covered by a potential sell-on fee!
Fuck off Lerner, the Villa is OURS!

  13. Andrew avatar

Randy Lerner has flown in from the United States to thrash out Aston Villa’s strategy for the summer, after the surprise exit of Paul Faulkner, the chief executive.

Lerner met Paul Lambert, the Villa manager, at the club’s Bodymoor Heath training ground on Tuesday in a bid to ease the sense of turmoil following another difficult 24 hours.

The Villa owner assured Lambert that it would be business as usual, despite the departure of Faulkner effectively leaving the club rudderless at a time when it is up for sale.

Lerner is also believed to have reassessed this summer’s transfer budget and may provide further money to strengthen the squad, though it is unlikely to be more than £15 million on fees and wages.
Lambert has signed only Joe Cole and Phillipe Senderos on free transfers and is determined to bring in more quality as he bids to avoid another season of struggle.

He also wants the contract situations of the Holland international Ron Vlaar, Fabian Delph and Gabriel Agbonlahor sorted swiftly to avoid the prospect of bids from rival clubs.

However, the loss of Lambert’s close ally Faulkner will do little to clear the overriding feeling of confusion over the club’s future, with Lerner also meeting with players and staff to plead for calm.
While Lambert attempts to bring in new players, a takeover is not remotely close and Lerner has been growing increasingly disillusioned at the lack of interest.

American billionaires Josh Harris and David Blitzer had held tentative discussions earlier this year over a potential takeover but have since disappeared.

Keith Harris, the respected investment banker, is assisting Lerner with the sale and is understood to be flying out to the States in a fortnight to try and generate more interest.

Lerner will listen to offers of around £200million but is almost certain to remain as owner when the new season starts. He could now take on a more hands-on role as a result of Faulkner’s exit.

Faulkner will remain as chief executive until he agrees a severance package but is likely to officially leave later this month.

Villa’s statement insisted Faulkner will part on good terms but sources suggest his relationship with Lerner had become strained in recent weeks over some decisions made over the club’s direction.

    1. Guess work from the telegraph with regard the budget..

      1. Andrew avatar

Of course, seems why they put unlikely it’ll be more than 15m fees and wages. I personally think Lerner would be a bit smarter than that personally and see it if true at 15m being fees, and then like at most, 1m per player. Maybe 1.5m.

  14. Well, according to the Metro Fatty was actually sacked after Randy offered him a ‘non-operational role’ at Villa and as they put it –
“four years heading up day-to-day operations at Villa Park have coincided with the sharpest decline in the club’s on-field fortunes in a generation. And as the the headline says perhaps Randy maybe even staying after all?
Ermm, so perhaps Oohah’s conspiracy theory may have some credence after all???

    1. Colonius81 avatar
      Colonius81

Lol If thats the case then the restaurant staff, and the groundsman need to be sacked … If we are putting our faith in the metro and the daily mail and seemingly holding a CEO responsible for on field failures. A role he was clearly too over weight to perform as most fans have stated.
Who else do we think had direct input into football decisions? They should go too

      1. Simply speculating C81 for the lack of anything better to witter on about.
The Metro and the Mail one and the same? Well you learn something new every day.

  15. I think he’s going to be more hands on and be more supportive in regards to funding new players. I also believe that Lambert was told something along the lines of he will be given more funds after the books have been balanced, and now with all the cost cutting that has gone on the previous 4 years, more so the last 2 the since Lamberts arrival. My reason for thinking like this is because why would Lambert, who has openly stated a club of our size should be challenging higher, of hung around. I don’t think for a minute Lambert is money motivated therefore he must of been given assurances regarding funding new players when he first took the managers job.

If this if the case then as fat as I’m concerned Lambert deserves a huge pat on the back. Jus my opinion of course.

  16. Fat!! Meant far.

Faulkner is just a focal point for the disillusionment of the fans. Whilst culpable in the appointment of managers, he was just Lerner’s puppet as far as I can see. The problem is lack of investment in quality players in the last few seasons and poor football. Lerner is responsible for the first, and Lambert and his coaching staff the second. Having said that, we will probably end up having a better season than last. CNZ, Cole and Sendeross (yes even him!) along with Okore/Benteke and Kozak returning to fitness will make a difference. Even bendtner (if he signs) will help if he manages to not trip over his own ego.

Really baffling to what is happening at Villa..

it seems no one has a effing clue on how to go about things…

We have a manager that is making a complete d!ck of himself.. banged on and on about the young and hungry model and yet two seasons in is doing a complete and utter 360 on it..

I thought we were trying to reduce the wage bill and yet are adding turd to the squad.. either players who are injury prone or shite or both..!!

Let’s just say Bentdner does come in.. that 60K a week spunked on those three players.. why don’t we use that money better.. or do we just not have the nous to do that.. there all going to be on two year contracts.. surely we could find the RIGHT player or two on better wages who would cost the same budget wise rather then buying quantity over any sort of quality..

Unbelievable what is going on at the Villa.. complete and utter shambles…!!!

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

This may come as a shock coming from mr negative himself but I actually rate Bentner and think he’s underrated. Out of all lamberts dross signings this is the first one I can get slightly excited about

      1. please oohahahahahahaha we don’t believe u

i think the young and hungry model was born out of necessity ~ was lambert meant 2 say i am bringing in young cheaper players cos we are skint but hey we will be ok. and like b6 says now 2 years on its time 2 bring in the more established players but on the cheap as ordered from the man in charge lerner.

i also think oohahahahahaha bentner maybe because benteke may push for a spurs move, my mate is a spurs fan and he reckons spurs will return for him.

Its good to see that the acceptance of failure has filtered its way down to the majority of the supporters now.
Bendtner, along with Cole and Seder-dross are awful players just looking for a club stupid enough to give them one last big pay day in the “best league in the world”.
We have a chairman who doesn’t give a toss, no chief executive, a crap manager and a shocking playing squad.
Why should any of this be acceptable?
The recipe for failure has filtured down to the terraces now and we are doomed.
          Shit club.

          1. or is it more acceptance of reality, nothings gonna change until lerner sells up and all we can do is survive. until new owner and investment arrives.

no decent player will come 2 villa knowing this cloud hangs over us, sendros and cole both took reduced wages, keane also is said 2 have taken less wages. so bendtner i guess if he does come will also follow suit, the squad is improving slightly and 2 no real costs

          2. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
            OohAhPaulMcGrath

agree with all you say but bentner isnt that bad and the best we could hope for. Agree with all your other comments though

          3. Cole is far from a crap player. Just injury prone. If he plays for a sustained period will be a bargain. Bendtner has a decent international record just needs a kick up the arse and a reality check. Keane will do this. Be positive. Up the villa

    2. Lionheart…Bendtner will pay for himself in that there is NO fee plus sell-on possibilities. Its a no-brainer given that he is a decent player and more likely to net than Gabby or Andreas. An excellent signing, especially with the absence of Kozak and Benteke. Just needs to get his head right….step in Keano 🙂
Fuck off Lerner, the Villa is OURS!

I actually don’t think we will be as bad on field this season as last, of course its not going to be anything to jump up and down about but it will be a slight improvement in my opinion as long as key players stay fit and don’t get sold.

Returning. Benteke, will be massive, we know he can produce the goods. Kozak, good substitute that scored early in the season when needed. Okore, looks impressive and if can partner well with Vlaar will be a good defensive duo. NZogbia, we know can play well and I hope he does, not sure what will happen here but if he turns up and has a good season we will look much better.

In comers: Cole, could do a decent job, not sold on what he will do for us but potential is there, I feel he will start ok and disappear as the season moves on but if he can consistently play a decent AM role id be thrilled. Senderos, I hope he doesn’t start a game, I really do, do not rate him.

Possiblilities: Bendtner; Id be happy to have Bendtner up front to partner Benteke, may spell the end of Gaby however. Bendtner would score for us and just create another issue for defences.

Not Mentioned: , Delph is still our best midfielder and I hope he can improve even further with a little more leadership around him (Cole).

XI: Guzan; Herd, Okore, Vlaar, Luna, Bacuna, Delph, Cole, Nzogbia, Bendtner, Benteke
SUBS: Steer, Senderos, Lowton, Carruthers, Westwood, Gaby, Kozak

  22. Darren avatar

That has to be an improvement on
Guzan; Lowton, Clarke, Vlaar, Baker, Luna, Westwood, Delph, Sylla, Gaby, Weimann,

    1. Darren…agree with most of that but I think Grealish needs to be given some game time!

  23. Darren avatar

Who’s in and out for your team Langfordvilla?

    1. Darren..just Gardner and Grealish on the bench mate. A good first 11 that you picked…well the nst on the books anyway. Need to find a decent left back then I think our defence will be okish.

  24. Guzan Lowton Okore Vlaar dunno left back, westwood delph cole Nzogbia Benteke Bendtner
