Villa in for Jonas Olsson to replace Vlaar; Seriously?

So the Mirror are saying we’re going to do the above;

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-plot-swoop-jonas-4635520

Olsson is 31 and according to Wiki, signed a four year contract in October 2012.
So unless we get incredibly lucky, given our record of over-paying for players, we aren’t going to get him on a free transfer.
Or are we? I’ll leave you to debate that, but I’ll bet he’s on top wages, even if we do get him for nothing.

So what am I getting at?
Well, quite simply I can only see this as another way of Randy Lerner pocketing a couple of million quid.

I don’t have anything against Olsson. He’s a decent, experienced defender, who’s being kept out by Lescott.
But is he on a par with Vlaar?
Or, more in line with what we should be looking for as fans, is he an improvement?
I suspect we’d all agree that he’ll be nothing of the sort.

Of course, it could be that we’re bringing him in purely as backup, given the crocks that we already have.
Which would be fine if that’s all it is.
So why do I suspect that he’ll be expected to go straight into the team?

Hmm, £4-5 million in for Vlaar and Ollson will cost around £1.5 million. It’ll be “undisclosed” of course, as most of our transfers are these days, so we’ll never know the facts.

So that’ll be another few quid in Lerner’s pocket, while he throws us the usual bone of around £5 million to spend in the winter window (which was par for the course years ago, remember).
In the meantime, it depresses me to think some will be praising him for it, because of how “times are hard” etc.
Yes, incredibly hard, if you haven’t received an extra £30 million a season from Sky: which the club has.

Even if this deal doesn’t happen, you can bet your last couple of bob that something like it will, in my opinion.

And still the fans don’t complain.

Ok we will win tonight. They will have 75% possesion we will park the bus and nick a couple on break. Then cue lamberk apologists who think we’ve turned the corner and what a great manager he is! Sad but true

        1. Can’t see it myself, Lamdo’s plan A B & C ( incidentally B & C are the same as A) have been bubbled so teams sit deeper so I’d go 0 – 0.

          1. *Lambo’s*

        2. oohah, you alright mate, you sound ill? This is not you at all.

  2. No match preview yet again???? Understandable.anyway Im going 0-6 saints & I’m being generous, the only positive I’ll get from this fixture will be the fans turning on the management.it’ll be about fucking time if things do go pearshaped.

    3. Steve what month & year mate???????

  6. Which month & year?????

  7. no way are we winning tonight. We will either lose by an embarrassing scoreline or it will be backs to the wall, don’t attack, play for 0-0 and lose by about 2. Either way we will lose!

    1. hope not Adam ,but I’ve no faith in Villa as a team, 0-2 , please let me be wrong.

      1. I Hope not too Bill, im hoping in me saying that it has the reverse effect! Maybe I should stick a tenner on it as my bets always seem to go the other way!

We WILL win tonight, not through any great tactical achievement, but purely down to Lambert squeezing a result out when his neck is on the line…. 3-1 Villa

  9. 0-6 saints & I’m being generous.hope not but with injuries & lamberts predictable formation & tactics can’t see any other outcome.still UTV

  10. i think we will get turned over good n proper smacked arses by Koeman

  11. injuries in defence, plodding midfield and toothless up front. Stroll in the park for Saints. Think we will get our customary nil, they will get at least two, and maybe a few more.

You never no we all thought a better team called man city would beat us 10.0 last season and we beat them 3.2. Iv a sneaky feeling we will get a result tonight saints will choke now media is talking about them being top 4 contenders trust me

      1. A possibility if we were at full strength LOL,my concern is the defense.this team are pretty useful in front of goal & Guzan can only take so much,I have a feeling this could be another record broke that Lambert could do without.yes I’m a Fucking pessimist, can you blame me.

But we were without Benteke for city game.

      2. who’s that optimist who’s taken over Oohah’s login? Imposter!

      3. I can’t see them choking, but we’re not going to open them up. They’ve conceded 5 goals all season and have the most clean sheets. We have the least goals scored. It’s a match made in hell against them.
