Villa 2- 1 Watford; I don’t believe what I’ve just seen

We walked this game and Watford took the lead,
It then seemed to me that everything we were doing just looked like it wasn’t going to work out.
We’d dominated possession, passing and whatever stat you like.
Yet still Deeney managed to score again, against the run of play.

I’d already got the headline in mind, in that if we can’t beat Watford at home, we’re going down.
It was as simple as that.
And frankly, I still believe that was true.

I was massively worried, because I just couldn’t see where a goal was coming from, with our incredibly poor crossing into noone in particular.

And then, as Watford had possession in goal, I went to the toilet only to find that we’d scored to make it 1-1.

We still didn’t look that good to my mind, but somehow, we managed to net again in literally what must have been the last 10 seconds.

Where my brain nearly exploded and all that chemistry kicks off.

How the hell did we manage to pull that one back?

I’m trying to wind down and have to say I thought Watford were utter crap.
And if we couldn’t beat them at home, we were looking certs to be relegated.
That was going to be the gist of my post.

If Samatta can get us a few goals, perhaps we have a chance of surviving.
And we showed some signs of not giving up, which is a good thing.

But Jesus, we look poor as a team and we’re in a serious fight to stay up.
Grealish apart (and even he didn’t have a great game), we just look so average or worse.

I still can’t believe we won that, but if we can drag results like that out, we should be ok.

It just goes to show.
I said that Watford were second in the form table, while we were 15th, yet I still thought we might win.
It’s definitely a funny old game.
To make it even stranger, I was talking to a an old time Blue nose, who freely admitted to being a hooligan, in hs day.
He said he’d got a fiver on us to win.

Does that say it all?
It feels like it to me.

I’m still euphoric, I think.

Smith has reported that Samatta is training at BMH and is available for Tuesdays game. Although I haven’t seen any official announcement, my understanding is that he can’t start his ‘new job’ (i.e. training at BMH) until a work permit has been granted – which now seems to be the case.

Don’t know if any of you saw Dean on TV during the Brentford game yesterday, but he said we’re still hopeful of signing another striker, so irons are in the fire.

He was also very positive about us staying up. Very honest about everything…

Rumour that Villa bid Trabzonspor for Sturridge. If he comes it will be “A welcome back from Hell” which any of you who went to Trabzon will appreciate. At least he will be accustomed to passing to a claret & blue shirt – though come to think of it he wasn’t known for passing to team-mates when last seen here.

Doubt we would see much of Sturridge doing anything if he was signed.

The way it’s going will we be having anyone. 3 days to go and all we have his might be. Still Villa might be holding back on us with a good bit of business it’s close now.

I’d be very surprised to see Sturridge in a Villa shirt. I guess the only criteria he’d fit that other options don’t, is that he has EPL experience. It’s looking increasingly like Giroud isn’t going to happen. I’d rather see us give Davis a chance and get someone in who might be useful if we stay up or go down.

    Hogan to Blues?
That would be a turn up for the books.
Best of luck to them, if so, as he seems to have gone right off the boil and no-one rates him, including Smith.

Haven’t read the media; presumably a swop loan from Stoke or are they suggesting a Blues might actually be buying him? Clearly Stoke don’t rate him either!

In reality there is no real transfer noise around Villa – all the media do is continually regurgitate the tired old (rubbish) stories in a desperate attempt to get ‘clicks’. I’ve finally tired of falling into that trap 🙂

So either we’re nowhere when it comes to signing anyone else or we’re so far under the radar as to be invisible – neither appears to be very encouraging!

I tired of it ages ago, Hitch.
Yes, Blues to apparently take on his loan, while paying about £15 a week towards it.
That sucks, as we’ll no doubt be paying most of his wages.
But if he’s poor for them too, maybe some good will come of it 🙂
Otherwise, agreed, we might have one or two irons in the fire, but can’t get them over the line because of the money.
I’ll be posting my thoughts on things later or, more likely tomorrow.

LOL – about £15 per week towards his wages 🙂

Suppose that’s all they can afford 🙂
