Milanov just signed for CSKA Moscow so we can cross him out, unfortunately.

Yeah… It’s a good thing a site worse than twitter is running that article about Chelsea and Benteke.

Loving the new site layout! Does anyone else think Lambert’s going a bit mad buying attacking players?! How’s he going to keep everyone happy?

Clearly he’s going to have two defenders and a goalie and eight attacking players. We’ll work like a large turning circle, with Westy in the middle feeding the ball out to the various attacking players. People will keep changing position, sometimes being forward, sometimes helping out the two defenders. It will confuse the hell out of the opposition and allows us to use all our attacking players at once. We have the best goalie in the league so why not play to his strengths!

We’d have to move quick, though. Somebody down the pub told me his mate’s mate’s Italian mother-in-law works as a cleaner at Inter, and the word is they want to take O’Neill to Milan on a 5 year, £20 million deal.

Just had a look at The Mail re Kiyotake, and they reckon that Lambert has had “glowing reports” about the player from German contacts, but no bid has actually been made. Seeing that Nurnburg have given a firm statement of intent about not selling, I begin to think that they’re not simply playing hardball to jack up the fee, and there’s little likelihood of a deal here. Pity; the lad looks very useful according to commentators in the media who’ve seen him. Does anybody have any definite knowledge about whether the supposed buy out clause in his contract actually exists?

Anyone heard anthing more about this supposed second bid from Villa for the Japanese lad? 8.5m…

Its funny though…as it excites me that we are willing to splash a lot of money on a quality no.10, but deep down Im thinking we should really spend it on a more defensive midfielder like McCarthy!! Ah f**k it…we can just try and outscore everyone!! 🙂

      davidg July 4, 2013 at 9:07 pm . Reply

I’d love us to get both!!
I think midfield is now the main concern. Latterly we showed a lot of promise with the Delph/Westwood/Sylla partnership, but it’s still an inexperienced lineup which strikes me as potentially fragile. I really like McCarthy and in spite of his age, he now has a load of top flight experience and strikes me as a fine player with a solid professional attitude. I think he would add a lot to our side, and I’m surprised there’s seemingly been little interest to date in terms of securing his services. If it was left to me to make a straight choice, one or the other, I’d go for the steadiness and reliability McCarthy could bring to the squad, even though Kiyotake looks the more exciting option. McCarthy might be a bit out of our price range though, then of course we’ve already added a couple of midfield types already…

In all honesty I’d much rather see Kiyotake sign than McCarthy. Not to say I don’t like McCarthy, quite the opposite, I think he is absolute quality. Problem being with British lads these days is that they are hugely overpiced for what they are. I’m suggesting we could find a McCarthy abroad for half the price, but away goes the PL experience with the price! A tough decision.

Anyway, I’d rather see this Kyotake because I think even more than a solid experienced DM, a player of Kyotake’s ilk is exactly what we’ve been missing for the a long long time now. Someone pulling the strings, bringing the ball in from centre mid to attack and either assisting or scoring, both of which this lad looks comfortable doing.

Ireland could have been that player but never wanted it enough.

Totally agree about fees. Don’t know what McCarthy would actually cost but my guess would be £15-16 mill at least. Can’t see us paying that even if we were interested, and there’s absolutely no indication whatsoever that we are.
I’ve never seen Kiyotake but commentators who know him reckon that he’s a bloody good player, and if the buzz is to be believed, Lambert is seriously interested. I’d love to know if this rumoured buy out clause in his contract actually exists or not.

Yeh, I’m pretty sure he was valued at 15mil in the not too distant past mate. Very good player but 15mil is a little steep.

Got a mate who’s a big Weder Bremen fan, mentioned how good this Kiyotake was to me yesterday after it first broke. Exceptional player in a mid table side.

I read as well the buyout clause is in the 7.5mil region. I’ve also heard contrasting stories of a bid being made and rejected along with no bid being made at all. All seems a bit vague to me, at this stage I’m not going to get too excited. Smells a little Belhandarish at the moment but we’ll see. I really do hope we get him if I’m honest with you, for the reasons I mentioned on my last comment.

Don’t u think its strange that players we are linked with around the £10m mark never come of yet the £1-2 m players that are as cheap as Chips always do funny that!

We won’t be spending 10mil on a player anytime too soon oohah, we all know that. This Japanese lad will cost the same or slightly more than Benteke if we get him. Not bad imo

Media mate, c**nts they are, it’s their fault we’re linked with these 10mil+ players when everyone who knows whats happening at Villa at the moment knows that 10mil+ is not our spending level until we offload our big earners. But, yeh fair play you are right on this occasion.

Don’t think that there’s anything “sinister” in it though to be honest, oohah. I think it’s certainly feasible that we could get this player if Lambert’s really interested. I just don’t think he’ll pay what he believes is over the odds for anybody.

£7.5 mill buyout doesn’t strike me as over the top or likely to scare us off if Lambert’s as keen as the stories suggest. As you say mate it all smacks a bit of Belhanda again.
I hope that this one does come off though; all the reports on the player suggest that he’s got that “number 10” flair and guile we could do with in the side, not to mention a few goals as well.
Roll the clock back 24 months; how times are changing down the Park with the sort of players we’re looking at and bringing in now.

spot on mate, good times at the moment. The other thing is the whole air/pyschology around the club changing as well. The media types tap into this and even if we’re not actually signing the Balhandas/Kyotake’s and 10mil+ players we’re at least being linked with them. Very subtle changes like that go a long way in the long.

Would love 2 marquee signings to come in by the end of the window! Attacking midfield clearly needs to be filled! And I also can’t help but want a defensive midfielder, but then again I don’t want to hinder the youngsters that deserve to be in the team after improved performances last year! What do you think sill happen the rest of the window? Marquee signings or increasing depth signings still? Interesting to know other people opinions and what they want….Utv

I’d like an attacking mid with a bit of flair. A standout name. Even if it was a season loan. I think we will lack creativety and pass around the box again. If we had a corzola / modric type I really think that would knitt us together. Alot easyer said than done am sure.
