Transfer Rumours: Begovic Bid Turned Down, Spurs Triple Swoop & Benteke Bid

Today there is more news on the Aston Villa transfer front. Stoke City have rejected a bid from Aston Villa for their keeper Asmir Begovic. Begovic is heading into his last 12-months on his current contract and will sit down with Mark Hughes and chief executive Tony Scholes to discuss a new deal. That hasn’t stopped Aston Villa from making a bid for the keeper. Begovic will most likely replace Guzan or add competition to Brad Guzan. Begovic lost his spot as Stoke’s number 1 keeper to Jack Butland in the last few games of the season and was not happy about that. There hasn’t been any news regarding the fee itself, but it’s believed that Aston Villa don’t want to pay more than £7 million for Begovic with Stoke holding out for £10. Like I mentioned yesterday, Begovic would be a fantastic addition. But paying £10 million for a keeper whose contract will expire next season is just way too much.

The Metro reports that Aston Villa are interested in a triple swoop for Spurs trio, Adebayor, Townsend and Carroll. Sherwood wants to bring some of his former players to Aston Villa with Adebayor valued at £3 million, £10 million for Townsend while Carroll would arrive on a season-long loan. Sherwood apparently has a good relationship with the trio. I’d be fine with Townsend, but that’s where I draw the line. Adebayor would definitely demand really high wages, currently on a rumoured £100,000 contract with Spurs while I don’t see the point of developing a Spurs youngster ahead of one of our own talented youth academy players. Besides, how many times have we read about clubs making ‘duo’ or ‘triple swoops’? Plenty, and they very rarely ever occur. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Sherwood did bring in at least one Spurs player, it really just depends on which one it is.

The Daily Mail reports that Liverpool will make £25 million bid for Benteke. Liverpool had an alleged £22 million bid reject by Aston Villa early in the month. Liverpool are not interested in matching Villa’s £32.5 million price tag for Benteke and Villa aren’t interested in lower their valuation of the Belgian striker. Oh boy, the Benteke-saga will look to continue. If Liverpool can’t agree a price, what Liverpool player would you be interested in moving the other way? Or after the Ireland-Milner deal would you like to avoid a scenario like that from occurring again? Fabio Borini would be a good addition to Aston Villa in my honest opinion.

Adebayor just no . london media for you. spurs have been looking to get rid of him and his massive wages for at least two years and they think we are that stupid to get lumbered with that useless lump.

No way adebayor it seems all he wants for his carter is a nice wage while sitting on the bench doing nothing! From Liverpool I wouldn’t take any player in exchange because they will simply value him way more than he is worth! Stingy Liverpool won’t pay the money so tell them fuck off! If Benteke played for them they wouldn’t let him leave for less than 50 mil just because he plays for liverpool but because it’s aston villa we are asking toi much for him? I’m not against exchanges but for the right player borini is not that player! Say remy and 20 mil then no prob!

    1. Agreed KV I’ve said it before if the scousers were selling benteke it’d be 50 mil & nowt less the fucking misers.

Agree Kerry how they have the audacity to baulk at Bentekes price when they want £50 for Sterling who’s worth no more than half that amount !

More boring Spurs links. I should put a bet on us not signing a single Spurs player.

I said exactly the same to a Spuds fan this afternoon; we won’t sign any of them.
The same fan also echoed the sentiments Domingo posted.
      Spurs want rid of him.

      Begovic?
      The Daily Mail have reported that we have bid the required £10 mill, but I very much doubt it, myself;

      http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3140322/Aston-Villa-make-ambitious-try-sign-Stoke-City-keeper-Asmir-Begovic.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

As for Benteke, my thoughts are that we would hopefully have said we’re not even talking unless you set the clause off.
Indeed, that’s been reported as the case by many press sources.
So why they’re coming back with an increased, but still insufficient bid puzzles me.
Unless we’ve given them some sort of encouragement in suggesting that they’re not far off.

And no, enough of loan players.
      What’s the point?
I’d rather bring our own kids through and I’m not even convinced many of them are good enough.

      1. Andrew avatar

I’ve read we bid only 5m and could make a new bid of 7-8m. He on a one year contract left is not worth 10m.

Loans could definitely work this summer as Sherwood wants rid of like everyone bar what, 10 players? We’re not getting rid of everyone and not replacing everyone so a loan or two would not be bad at all for us.

lol some spurs fans have a sense of humour . just read one saying if sherwood buys adebayor he would instantly become a spurs legend . that just goes to show what spurs fans think of him lol.

The Bin dippers – or at least their press persona – really pisses me off. They want 50M for Sterling – a player who can’t perform when the going is tough (it isn’t for England, but it is in the big EPL games) but they won’t pay 32.5 M for a real brute of a forward. In no sane world do those two valuations square with reality. Who would I want as a makeweight, only Reina or Henderson.

    1. Andrew avatar

Reina’s not their player anymore, hasn’t been for 2 years now. Was at Bayern last season, now at napoli.

  6. steve avatar

don’t know how true. but villa talk has a photo of tomorrow’s mirror headlining that delph has a 10 million buy out clause.
    city want him

    1. badger123 avatar
      badger123

Not from what I’m seeing, Steve.
I suspect that’s a joke, aimed at the fact that other clubs think we’re total mugs and will give our players away.
Although nothing would surprise me with the Villa.

      1. steve avatar

I just thought it a bit strange when delph signed as there is no loyalty in football.

        1. steve avatar

    In other news, we’ve apparently lost out on another player, who the Birmingham Mail are supposed to have linked us to;

    http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2015/06/26/report-reading-youngster-tariqe-fosu-agrees-new-two-year-contrac/

    I’ve never heard of him.

And I have to say the Mail has been atrocious in it’s rumour reporting this time around.
At least I say, I think most of these rumours are utter crap 🙂

Nursey reporting that Delph wanted to leave on a bosman but couldn’t bring himself to do it after all Lerner did for him through his injuries. Also mentions that our proposed new owners are the American party and the takeover could be wrapped up soon after Lerner rejected a bid from the Chinese party.

    Good grief.
    I’m utterly dismayed.
So much for Delph’s loyalty then, if this is true.
I suppose the one saving grace is that the club will hopefully get another couple of mill to spend (no way will all of the fee go in the pot, imo).

Our only two decent players look like they’re about to leave and I still see us spending next to nothing in this window.
Or at least there won’t be players of equal quality coming in.

    I’m off to bed 🙁

    1. Andrew avatar

Well more than two different players but that sounds like a relegation buyout clause. Gotta remember nursery is a Pool fan so he’s well biased.

      1. Andrew avatar

        Decent not different.

    2. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar

Looks like the same old bollox next season only we could go down unless we buy decent replacements

  10. marvin avatar

This Delph news is pretty alarming. If Delph goes not only do we need to replace him but also find a new captain – again. Here I thought the club lacked a spine last season, but next season I’ll just be happy if we have the numbers.

  11. steve avatar

another view could be Sherwood said he wanted a team with a winning mentality and wanted to get rid of the losers.
Bentley vlaar delph and Guzan have been the main stay over the last few seasons and have been consistent losers.
and although each of them can be good on there day most of the time they have been poor.
until the last couple of months I thought delph had been very poor. benteke can be prolific but there has been many a time he has not been up for it and is offside more often than not. vlaar is just shit.
if they don’t want to be here let them go and rebuild.

    1. OriginalLondonLion avatar
      OriginalLondonLion

A lot of truth in what you write Steve. That is my take on the current team, after the Cup Final shambles I thought the only players with credit were some of those not on the pitch. I think Sherwood’s instant reaction, that most of them had signed their own transfer requests by their display, is not one he got over the next morning.

  12. Bum Bum avatar
    Bum Bum

I think you re all worrying for nothing. Delph is good, but not Man City quality with all their cash. Does he really want to be Milner mark 2 who spent a large proportion of his time at Citeh warming the bench? I don’t think so…And ten million is a joke.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Exactly would only be a bit part player at City. They are likely to get pogba, they still have toure and Fernandinho etc Delph would only play in league cup

  13. £10 million Release clause for Delph? More than likely it’s in his contract and could of been triggered IF we had got relegated. If he is now available for 10 mill then that’s just shocking! Still, wouldn’t surprise me with the power players have these days.

    1. saddened avatar
      saddened

Delph didn’t have to sign a new deal, and would have got a huge signing on fee if he would left on a free this summer – I think he is loyal and cannot see him leaving!

      1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
        OohAhPaulMcGrath

I would take £10m for Delph he’s not worth more than that imo.

      2. You’re right he didn’t and I also don’t think he will leave, well not this summer anyway. However, I’d expect there to be something written in his contract allowing him to leave on the cheap after X amount of time. That way he would of shown a certain amount of loyalty at the same time as looking after himself, which I totally get. Do you really think he would of signed a 4 year contact, at a time when he’ll be at the age where players peak, with a struggling side without having some kind of release clause written into his contract? I don’t think so.

        1. saddened avatar
          saddened

Yes he would be silly to sign a blank contract, the way we have been over the last few seasons !

  14. Darren avatar

If there was a buyout clause for as little as £10 pretty much every club in the premier league would be after his signature. This story Is complete rubbish

    1. For £10 most Sunday league teams would be too! 😉

  15. Simple answer to this rumour is…..Delph and/or Villa come out and tell us whether its a load of bollox = simple! Its good to overcomplicate! ‘Never let the truth get in the way of a good story’.

  16. OriginalLondonLion avatar
    OriginalLondonLion

Extremely unlikely that a club who can price Benteke so shrewdly would have put an all years, still premiership, buyout clause for a current England International at £10m. I suspect as others have said it triggers only on relegation, or in the final year of the contract, and it will certainly be voided by his current international status. Not that I am a big fan of Delph, who plays better for England than for Villa. I would happily see him depart, but not for peanuts.

Villa need to up their bid for Begovic, I can’t see a better keeper on the move anywhere unless from a minor European league.

OLL – think you’re right. A lot of people on here getting very worked-up by nonsense rumours that rarely have more than 48 hours life in them…

The one piece of incoming business that we’ve done so far [Richards] came very much from nowhere, and the silence from any real sources close to VP suggests that this time around the club will be doing their transfer business without splashing news of it all around the media for weeks beforehand.

  17. kerryvillan avatar
    kerryvillan

Don’t think the 10 mil buyout clause is true, like has been said probably with relagation! But even if it is I know delph will reject it, he will see what has happened to sinclair, Richards, shay given, that young fellow from everton that I can’t even remember his name anymore cause I hav seen him play maybe 3 times for them! I think he was on loan at Sunderland last year, all English and all bought simply because they are English and to make up the required numbers, Delph seems smart enough to realise this to me! I don’t include milner and Barry in there because they did actually play a good part for city for a couple seasons because they were fantastic English players especially milner but delph isn’t in their league just yet.

  18. bencey83 avatar
    bencey83

Adebayor would be the new Heskey! I’d like to see us sign Townsend, Begovic and Austin. Can’t realistically see us getting any of them!

  19. bencey83 avatar
    bencey83

I personally think £10 would be money well spent on Begovic, who is a much better all roung keeper than Guzan. Not sure why he would want to leave an ever-improving Stoke squad though.

    1. steve avatar

I don’t think we will get him for £10

    2. OriginalLondonLion avatar
      OriginalLondonLion

I think Begovic does not see himself as any team’s #2 or even joint #1 keeper. Stoke are in the lucky position of having the young England keeper as well, but the crunch is neither will be happy next season unless they are a #1. Buckland is the better financial bet, though not the better keeper right now. hence Stoke willing to listen to a good bid for their spare keeper.

just been reading the rumours around the web and a leeds utd site are claiming leeds will be due 15% of the transfer fee if we sell delph.
well fuck me it just gets better and better if its true. first a £10m clause and leeds get £1.5m of it lol you couldn’t make it up.

      Mon for you

  21. Domingo….see my earlier post. The club or Delph should deny it if not true. If they remain silent then start to worry……its as simple as that! Dont really see what all the fuss and complications are about…..it only requires a sentence from Villa or Delph to deny it!

  22. domingo avatar
    domingo

but so far no one has denied it . not villa not delph and not sherwood.

  23. True mate…if Villa had a decent set up they would have said something by now! Its worrying, but Villa are not known for their efficiency. Probably waiting until season tickets are renewed (oohah will love me for saying that) 🙂 .Perhaps Villa think we dont have the right to know…..whilst I think we do as fans/customers.

More likely to go to Saints I’m afraid

      1. Andrew avatar

Possibly but if they don’t sell Schneiderlin within the next week we could very much sign Clasie before they can. Plus they have Idrissa Gueye lined up as the Frenchman’s replacement.

        1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
          OohAhPaulMcGrath

But we have to accept saints are more attractive than us now. They are a well run club not far from London who weren’t that far away from CL place. A couple of decent additions they could challenge again. They can also afford wages too. We are the saints and Leicesters of yester year now. We are bottom 6 at best. The club is a complete shambles from top to bottom. It could be another generation at least before we start challenging again

          1. Andrew avatar

No one’s challenging the current top 4. That was one of the worst season’s United ever had and they got top 4 comfortably. The amount of money the top 4 can spend and who they can attract compared to Pool, Spurs and Southampton is far too vast for anyone to challenge them. I’m gonna say we have a new “big 4” with City replacing Pool.

Southampton are more attractive, I know they are, but my point was we don’t know if Koeman really wants Clasie, he’s linked because he’s dutch. Much like the Walker, Townsend, Adebayor, Tom Carroll links and now some random young defender we want apparently who would never get a game.

            1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
              OohAhPaulMcGrath

But saints are a better bet than us if he has a choice between them and us he will go to them. Utd didn’t have champs league last year and Liverpool were woeful

          2. Andrew avatar

I’m not saying we can beat Southampton to Clasie, but we’re still in a good way to get players and who knows if Koeman wants him.

United also have an open check book that FFP can’t touch because of the money they make. Liverpool are woeful, not were.
