Transfer Deadline Day – Live

I’m starting a little earlier then expected. The transfer-window closes in a 24 hours I will be keeping you all up with all the latest transfer news regarding Aston Villa, and maybe some other interesting things.

20:46: Shay Given WILL NOT be joining Liverpool on loan

20:45: I’ve been out for a bit. But Kozak has joined Aston Villa on a 4-year contract. And Bannan has agreed a move to Crystal Palace

17:54: Ireland has joined Stoke City on a season-long! Rejoice!

16:48: It’s close to official. Barry Bannan is nearing a move to Blackpool. He is set to join for a fee of £1.75 million and sign a 3-year deal. So I guess I was wrong, Bannan will move to Blackpool on a permanent deal, not a season-long loan

15:18: Ireland has arrived at Stoke to finalise his loan move.

14:34: It now appears that Kozak will cost Aston Villa £7m. The deal also includes add-ons. That’s a lot of money for someone who hadn’t scored a League goal last season! Apparently he is very versatile and an out-and-out striker.

14:33: Bannan’s move to Crystal Palace appears to be a season-long loan. That means that Aston Villa will not be able to offload any players permanently.

14:31: Mark Hughes is close to sealing a season-long loan deal with out of favour midfielder Stephen Ireland

12:24: According to Mat Kendrick and Stan Collymore they believe that Kozak would most likely be our only acquisition. With Bannan to Crystal Palace the only departure. On Twitter some claim that Lazio have also suggested right-back, Pereirinha and centre-back Stankevicius.

10:08: Apparently a fee has been agreed with Lazio. It appears to be a 7.5 million euro fee with 1.5 million euro add-ons. This means that the deal will cost Aston Villa roughly 9 million euros. That’s a lot of money.

9:29: Not much going on regarding Aston Villa, the only reports I find relate to Bannan’s medical at Crystal Palace. Stoke have bought in Arnautovic which is an interesting signing. Liverpool have strengthened their defence with Sakho and Ilori.

06:54: Today is transfer deadline day. I’ll be keeping you all up to date with all the recent transfer rumours and news. Last season, Paul Lambert brought in Ashley Westwood and Christian Benteke on transfer deadline. Will there again be activity at Villa Park? Well, so far Aston Villa are linked with a move with Lazio forward Kozak and Bannan is linked with a move to Crystal Palace.

23:00: It’s midnight where I live, I’ll be back tomorrow morning to continue this thread. Discuss below and if you hear of any juicy rumours remember to Tweet at the Aston Villa News and Views twitter account. It’s easy for me to check out and post all the rumours. Good night.

22:54: Rumour: Palace are trying to get Aston Villa to pay-off Bannan’s contract. This will see Aston Villa lose money in order to get Bannan of their hands. Villa are trying to negotiate that.

22:43: Rumour: Lukaku is bookies favourite to join Aston Villa on loan.

22:37: Romour: According to an ITK lady, Kozak is just a ‘smokescreen’ signing. Paul Lambert and Faulkner have an even bigger name lined up. Don’t know any more than that, I’d imagine that would only happen if we sell Bannan and Given though

22:27: People claiming a deal has been struck for Kozak, I’m hearing fee’s of 4 million or €7.5m plus add-ons. Nothing is official until confirmed, but Kovak will very likely be an Aston Villa player tomorrow.

22:19: Barry Bannan is currently at a hotel in London. Palace are negotiating a fee with Aston Villa for midfielder Barry Bannan. He will most likely be off, I can see this being a low transfer fee.

22:18: Kozak is rumoured to be joining Aston Villa on a permanent deal! A loan deal was rumoured earlier but everyone on Twitter is claiming a permanent. Fee isn’t mentioned. Deal to be completed tomorrow.

  1. Bannan to Blackpool for 1.75m????

In a lot of ways the Kozak deal makes sense…but I think we all hoped that a creative mid would come in today…I guess there is still time!

Agreed ooh what the fuck is lambert playing at

  2. Given to Liverpool on loan…? We seem to be doing well at offloading these players, even if only on loan.

  3. Deal done, Kozak 5mil

  4. IReland to Stoke season loan done

  5. Welcome Kozak. I hope he shows us what he is made of and really puts pressure on Benteke to improve.

Great news about Ireland and good luck to Bannan. He is still a product of our academy and I wish him all the success.

A bit surprised Given hasn’t been shifted yet or have I missed something?

  6. Lionheart avatar

PL said he’s been on this one for a while.. must rate him and not just a last ditch buy then..

  7. I think its quite funny that a lot of these people that are ITK are saying that there will be definitely no more transfers now. These are the same people that had no idea that we had been tracking/would sign Krolak!! ha ha.

We never sign anyone last minute traditionally. We would at least be linked with someone by now. We have what we have unfortunately another shite window

      1. A shite window? I’m pretty pleased really. We have strengthened in all areas, and I think we have done better business than a lot of teams. Sure we would always want more but this is a gradual process. Rebuilding Aston Villa is a massive task, and Lambert has changed the squad hugely without breaking the bank.
Lets judge by how we perform across the season. I’m not expecting miracles but I do expect we will see a significant improvement.

          OohAhPaulMcGrath

Where have we strengthened in midfield and defence except okore ffs

          1. Bacuna, Luna… although Bacuna solves both midfield and defensive roles

            1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
              OohAhPaulMcGrath

Bacuna was shite v Liverpool Luna is marginally better than Bennett defensively but going going forward. Lowton and Westwood being found out, vlaar lets not go there, sylla average at best tonev out if his depth, helenius might be ok kae will not be able to keep it up too lightweight. Benteke of course excellent. We are a shite team going nowhere fast

          2. Depends what you call midfield. Bacuna and Tonev fit the bill from a wide POV, Tonev and Helenius have both been mooted as options behind Benteke. As someone else has mentioned Bacuna is backup fullback. Luna and Okore in defence, Steer as backup keeper, now we have backup for Benteke with Kozak. Or have you dismissed most of he signings off hand?

No chance md8 our business is done and dusted and Lerner has parted with £12m should be enough to keep us up but not much more. Fuckin embarrassment

  10. Wondering why we need another forward but depth in squad is good.Kozak has a good head, fast shot and can take a pen. With Bannan,Ireland going will we sneak a CM in maybe maybe not #UTV

    1. A great way to keep Benteke grounded if you ask me.

  11. Where’s JD? Testin 1 2 1, JD whats the news on the twitter mate

  12. Got a feeling we will get one more! Welcome kozak, got a feeling he will be a good solid player for us.

  13. Why have we signed this Libor bloke, his record is shocking for lazio in the league..and he’s been loaned out.. Bannan should have stayed. For fuck sakes…… Aghhhh

    1. Bent will score a hat trick against but Bannan will only score one, not all bad mate

  14. Bannan is a championship player, even sylla is above him a league 2 frenchie.

  15. Bencey83 avatar

I personally think this is the best transfer window we’ve seen for ages – we’ve singed a good few players with bags of potential. I much rather us do this than sign a load of has beens with over-inflated egos and wages.

Don;t pick on Oohah he speaks words of wisdom boys all hail the great Oohah Oohah.

  20. Right I’m off to the pub, I ain’t going through all this again like last year, pinned to my screen. I think thats it for this summer anyway, would have been nice for a DM or AM. Maybe I’ll wake up to a nice surprise. Night lads

  21. Creative midfielder….? Has we forgotten the way Gary Gardener sprayed the ball about start of last season? He must be near match fit now?

  22. Well all in all, a decent transfer window for us. Bit disappointed we didnt pick up a top class midfielder, but maybe in Jan.

Okore-looks class. Prob be our most important signing.
Luna- Really impressed so far and should only get better.

Tonev-I think now that we didnt buy another midfielder, we will rely on him to come good. At least he can take a set piece!

Steer, Helenius and Bacuna will just act as squad players, but they all seem up to the task.

Fabian Delph looks like a new signing…so I guess we did get one midfielder!!

Although I guess the best signings of the summer was getting Benteke and Weimann to sign new contracts…good job PL!!

  23. villa1996 avatar

Well at least we signed more players than man u lol wheres your fregie gone? Wheres your fregie gone?

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar

Cant believe they paid £27m for fellani good player but not worth that much. Puts not perspective the poxy £25m spurs were going to pay for Benteke. Watching spurs in Sunday they really could if done with him that solado is nothing special IMO

      1. Where did Villa, Spurs, the agent or player ever say Spurs were going to pay £25million for Benteke?

        1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
          OohAhPaulMcGrath

It was widely reported that was the figure.

          1. Widely made up figure, you mean.

          2. No mate that is the figure we put on his head with that cheeky fucker Levy spouting figures around the £12m mark. Looking at the Fellani price I think we under valued Mr Benteke.

          3. BWS – the other price reported was £30million but there was nothing ever official was there? Just lots of websites repeating the same stuff and plucking figures and buyers out of thin air. My point is it’s best not to judge the owner or manager on internet rumours that have no basis whatsoever.

          4. It’s again a made up figure. It’s not the figure we put on Benteke, it’s a figure the media put on Benteke.

        2. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar

Fuck me lamberts go e nearly a whole hr without signing another striker!! Why the fuck did we not go for mcarthy ffs

        3. Never any concrete offers just lots of rumours and speculation.
On the subject of transfers did you hear Garth Crooks on final score? He commented on how Villa (with Benteke), Liverpool (with Suárez) and Man U (with Rooney) had all stuck to their guns and told the player they were going nowhere as they were under contract, he (Crooks) thought this had started to bring the balance of power away from players and agents and back in favour of the clubs, not a bad thing imo and funny how all three clubs are owned by Yanks.

          1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
            OohAhPaulMcGrath

It was good to see though bale went. But lets face facts we would not have hold onto cb if this was not World Cup year he had no choice to stay. We all know he will be off to a sky 4 team next season just a question to who and how much. Then with the £40m or so we get for him Lerner can give lamberk another. Poxy 12m to spend on all the strikers he wants!!

      2. Lionheart avatar

The Benteke saga really confuses me.. why put a transfer request in.. keep quiet and let a bid come in for you.. if no bid comes in Sept 2nd sign a new contract..

        1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
          OohAhPaulMcGrath

I think he tried to force lamberts hand and spurs hoped we would let him go on the cheap so was just trying it on. When it became apparent that we held all the aces and prepared to use them Benteke backed down simply as there was a World Cup coming up and his only weapon of going on strike would have been to his own detriment. He knows he will go next season though unless he has a major injury or unbelievable loss of form

          1. I wonder if it was a negotiation trick to get more money in his contract extension, he came back from holiday and signed the next day. There’s still no evidence Spurs were in for him.

  24. villa1996 avatar

Moyers is out of his deph man u on the way down ha ha

    1. What price for him to be the first manager to get the sack this season? As you say – well out of his depth plus he’s won fuckall and lacks European experience.
Although I’m over the moon he got the job I can’t really understand the reasoning behind the appointment.

      1. Prob because Hes a sweaty to#UTV

        1. And another sweaty recommended by Fergy (us lot at VP know all about Fergy’s recommendations don’t we)?

          1. I might be wrong but isn’t McLeish currently a free agent, you know, just in case Moyes is pushed out? I mean what’s good enough for our great club is surely good enough for that bunch of upstarts?

      2. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
        OohAhPaulMcGrath

No one credible like mourinho would touch it straight after fergie moyes is just keep seat warm for Giggs or some high profile manager to take over.

I reckon PDC at sunderland will be 1st to go, publicly slagging his players off on MOTD, lost the dressing room? then there’s Martinez at everton, a lot of everton fans never wanted him so anything other than major success will have them clamouring to put him out and then there’s mr moyes always on a hiding to nothing following ferguson, fellaini 27 mil, personally I don’t really rate him than high, he had a real purple patch for a few months last season but faded badly toward the end and has done jack shit this season so far, yp if felani is worth 27 mil then benteke has got to be 50, but based on that if bale is worth 80 mil than I’ve got to be worth about 50 thou surely? 😉
    glad its all over.
