This is not exactly new, but given that I’ve only just read it, it still seems a good viewpoint, hence here it is.
With thanks to Ntype;
Today’s news that Wayne Rooney wants out of Manchester United plays into Villa’s hands in their negotiatons over Christian Benteke.
There are two reasons for this. Firstly liquidity in a market is always good for a seller. So far there have been few Premier League to Premier League transfers. This has meant the British clubs are in a tricky position as purchasers – they don’t have funds readily available. The same thing happens each season, once the first big transfer happens you see lots of business as the influx of money into the system oils the cogs.
The second reason is that the sale of Rooney would force Manchester United to find a replacement. Fabregas has been mooted, but this doesn’t appear to be a genuine story. Much more likely is that Moyes will look to make Gareth Bale Manchester United’s marquee signing.
Of course this relies on two actions. Rooney has to leave, which looks likely, and Bale has to choose to move to Manchester United. I think this is likely, after all this move is made for all the same reasons as Benteke leaving Villa.
It’s realistic that Villa can get £26m (plus £4m add ons) for Benteke. Thanks Rooney!
Oohah bore off.
