Former Fulham defender Philippe Senderos is set to sign for Aston Villa today on a free transfer. Senderos was released by Fulham at the end of the season after his loan spell at Valencia ended. Senderos will kick-off Aston Villa’s transfer business this summer. Senderos will be probably used as defensive cover after injuries affected the entire back 4 last season.
Senderos isn’t exactly what I’d call a good player, Fulham fans have often criticised the defender for making mistakes. It also shows just how little money Lambert has to work with. Senderos’s wages are probably going to be payed for using Albrightons and Delfouneso’s, who were both released just a few weeks ago.
Still, as back up, he’ll add some experience to our back 4 and it’s good to see Lambert getting at least one player in, especially during the summer of uncertainty. Could this possibly be our only transfer deal of the summer? Sure looks like it, since Lerner is struggling to sell.
Senderos will be unveiled as an Aston Villa player on Thursday after he completes his medical. He will then fly out to Brazil to join up with his Swiss team-mates ahead of the World Cup.

Loads of Saudis on Twitter saying that Khaled Al Baltan could be the new owner of the Villa.
Al Baltan has a net worth of over $3 Billion and spent over £500 million in 8 years at Al-Shabab before stepping down as their president. – Just throwing it out there.
Actually like him as a player, Arsenal fans I know were big fans of his bar the game against Drogba which clearly destroyed his confidence, but a confident Senderos can do well in the back 4/5. At least we won’t have to see a Vlaar-Clark-Baker back 3, and have no one until he decided Donacien should be on the bench.

If we are honestly stuck with Lambert for 1 more season, then that’s not such a huge problem if we can average a point a game. Plus at least we have 1 senior striker coming back in Kozak, and then 1 more soon after in Benteke. Plus we’ll still have Bent.

I think expect more of the same whoever’s on a free & loans.there will have to be some very clever deals done if we are going to avoid the drop we need at least 6 players with some PL ability.maybe I should wake up & smell the coffee.but give these players our support &don’t knock them before they’ve even kicked a ball for us.
After thinking about the deal for a couple of hours I think I was a bit too harsh on him. Who knows maybe Vlaar and Senderos could actually do well together.
He’ll be playing in the World Cup so I’ll keep an eye out for him

To be honest, I’d prefer a pairing of him and vlaar, or at least have him as back up, ahead of Clark and Baker when Okore os fit again.

Vlaar and Okore with Senderos as backup – Sounds soooooooo much better than Baker or Clarke. Even if he’s prone to a calamity here and there, its a slight improvement.
We could sign Fabregas and there would be negatives. He’s too short, he’s right footed, his hairs out of place – Blah blah blah
Remember when we were beating arsenal and Fabregas came on with about 20 minutes left even though he was injured and single handedly destroyed us? Awesome player.

Senderos is very poor, everytime i seen him hes pulling a cart, u can’t have vlaar and senderos as the two centre backs we would be murdered for pace, if clark and baker aren’t up to it after two seasons, then they will never be ready,
much prefer 2 beef up midfield, somebody who can see a forward pass, someone 2 unlock defences, senderos is a back up player,
I’ve gone off Vlaar ever since the Hull game.
He is supposed to be our captain / leader on the pitch and at the very least the organiser of our defence.
How on earth Rosenior was left with so much space from a freekick is beyond me.
We all knew what was going to happen well before it happened except for our concrete Ron.
He should be the one making sure our defence is organised and players picked. He is to quiet to be our captain and an average player at best. Sad thing is he is one of our better players.
Agree never rated him as everyone knows. Thought he did better this season but since the Chelsea game he’s been awful

Cant say i rate Seneross at all, but would I rather have him than Baker or Clark, I guess the answer has to be yes. Bad times.
