Newcastle V Villa; My optimism has gone again.

Newcastlevilla

Last week, I was fully confident that we had enough about us to beat a Stoke team that had been in poor form and had a decent amount of injuries.
While I never thought we were good enough to have deserved all three points, the game had “one each” written all over it, a point that would have at least been encouraging.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t see the game out and we all know what happened.
Heartbreaking stuff, it was too.

This week, however, I have absolutely no faith whatsoever that we’ll take anything from St James’ Park or whatever they call it these days.

Whichever way you look at our stats over recent months, they’re simply appalling;
We’re the only team in the top four divisions that hasn’t won in 2015.
We’ve gone 11 games without a win and in that time, we’ve scored 3 goals.
And while previous games don’t count for anything, we also have a poor record against Newcastle since we beat them 3-0 on their turf.

All in all, things just don’t bode well, in my opinion.

That said, that’s what we’ve brought Tim Sherwood in for; to try and revitalise us.

I still keep going back to the fact that we need six wins from our remaining games, even though we’ve only won five up to now, though.

On to squad news then and it’s not good.
Vlaar serves a ban, which might be just as well, as I suspect Sherwood might have dropped him anyway.
The bigger concerns are that Cissokho and Hutton are both doubtful.
I wonder if we might see Bacuna in at RB?
Kieran Richardson, who to be fair, has done reasonably well at LB, is out too and there’s talk that Lewis Kinsella might start.

Newcastle might have Jonas Gutierrez back, but Cheick Tiote and Jack Colback are both out.

For me, it’s all about who gets the first goal today and I just don’t see us scoring it.
Whatever, I think we’ll see what this Villa team is all about today, in whether we have the bottle to fight our way out of trouble, or not.
Let’s hope I have something decent to write about after the game, eh?

Newcastle 2-0 Villa.

Yes, lets for no reason at all drop Guzan. Brilliant idea.

The two players needing dropping are Gabby and Delph, both of them haven’t had a good game all season.

Did you see guzan poor punching the fact he falls to command his area and misses most shots

Fails to command his area? Nope, he does that pretty well.
Misses most shots? He has quite the save to goal ratio actually.
Not the strongest in the air but there’s no reason at all to drop him.

Gary Gardner scores a screamer, great! Whereas our midfield couldn’t hit a barn door. We’ve clearly lost today even with ten mins left. Almost gone lads.

A player who would actually play with care. Gardner based on how Forest fans are claiming he’s played is exactly what we need right now. Although why Sanchez can’t get into that midfield is utterly baffling. Then again Bacuna’s again left out wrongfully.

Sherwood’s impact coming on exactly how I knew it would. Picking useless fuckers like Gabby, Westwood n Delph (cue goal from one of them)

Delph’s never going to be rightfully dropped. Westwood should as well. Sanchez and Cleverley should play together. Mine as well give it a try. Would be nice to see Bacuna played out wide on the right. And now we know why Sinclair isn’t a starter. Useless when he actually has to be part of the game instead of having a quick impact.

Agree Sherwood is well out of his depth exactly as I said he was. People slating me saying he can’t be any worse than lamberk. Well he is certainly not better. He needs someone like a Steve Clarke working alongside him. We should of got rid of lamberk months ago and as much as I hate to admit should of got pullis. He would keep us comfortably in mid table

Sherwood’s much better than Lambert. However he’s not the guy that you bring in to save a club. He’s a long term manager.

On what basis is sherwood better than Lamberk. Before lamberk came to us he was a decent manager. Sherwood did ok for 6 months but with much better players. I’m not saying Lambert is better im saying there is no evidence that suggests Sherwood can cut it.

Really hard to find who should even be starting anymore.

Guzan and Clark are the only ones I can actually think of that have cemented their spots. Okore makes far too many ridiculous mistakes, Vlaar…Is too rash at times. Hutton’s rarely in position. Maybe Cissokho has. Delph should be dropped permanently, as should Gabby. Westwood was awful. I guess Cleverley and Sanchez together would work. Sinclair at best is an impact sub, he’s so awful outside of scoring it’s not even funny. Bacuna and Gil should be starting behind Benteke and Weimann.

Get the right team, a team with fight n grit playing and it could be a lot better….. Playing Gabby, Delph, Westwood, Lowton, Weimann and CNZ, you are never ever going to get an ounce of fight or passion!!!!!!!!!!!

Gotta disagree about Weimann. Fight and Passion is something he shows. He doesn’t have the footballing brain to do much with it unfortunately. But you’re right about the others. Lowton does try too I guess, but he just isn’t good enough. Although Hutton’s been poor himself.

It’s been an all season thing though. Fans were on Sanchez’s ass so hard within minutes of him losing the ball, Delph had 4-5 long ball passes in the first ten minutes and each and every single one when to a Newcastle player and nothing. It’s shocking.

Problem is Andrew whenever on the rare occasion lamberk puts a couple of decent results together everyone was saying how great we are, how we will finish in top ten etc. Myself and a few other have said these results merely paper over the cracks. This team is in need of major surgery now. Also why didn’t Gil play most creative player we have by a planet ffs. Bacuna as well is another one that can score yet sherwood drops him. Is Kevin mac the problem. I just don’t get why he was bought back never rated him.

Don’t remember anyone claiming we will finish in the top 10 under Lambert, even after a few wins. I do remember a fair few fans claiming this team should finish top 10, which I’m still in agreement in with how bad the Premier League is.

I agree, don’t get how Bacuna can’t get a regular starting spot. He’s the only player I’d ever want to take a free kick, his crossing is better than anyone we have, he works hard, etc. He has more to his game than most of our players.

Gil I also agree on. People disliked him against Stoke for his awful corner deliveries and I get that, but that’s not why you should get dropped period.

i thought today villa tried, also in patches played fairly well but its route one lumping it forwards. also most important was against a very very poor newcastle team. we looked far better with the formation more solid. but end of the day another loss. nothing will stop us being relegated now, its just whether we or rangers are bottom of the pile come may.

benteke and gabby i thought were much better today one question is why ???

    We are gone.

We now need at least 5 wins from the last 11 games. Just cant see it happening.

We had more shots today, but when we do get a chance Benteke is either offside or fails to move from his statue like position, or we just dont get the run of the green.

Today was an improvement (slightly), but we just lack that edge of quality all the time.

Now resigned to the Championship. And if we dont go down this season, we are just delaying the inevitable.

Absolutely depressing, I can’t remember the last time it felt good to be a Villa fan. Completely ruined my mood for the weekend, but I should be used to it now.

Sherwood appears just as clueless as Lambert about what team or system to play. Going down, going down, going down!!! Can’t even beat an out of form Newcastle with nothing to play for. I expect a couple of stuffings by the Baggies on the horizon just to rub salt in the wound. Joy!

Our saving grace might be that I doubt we would need to get 38 points to survive this season, as there are currently three teams on 22 points, one on 18, and one on 25. Can’t see Burnley, Sunderland or Leicester picking up many more points. QPR will probably scrape survival and I expect it to be between us and Sunderland for the last relegation spot with Burnely and Leicester also going down. I think we will probably pick up less points than Sunderland, if I’m honest!

What do they do on the training ground? I have been asking this question since MON’s last season, but I have never seen so many players lacking basic skills:
    Shooting straight.
Corner takers’ signals where he will delver the ball.
Delivery of free kicks so as to turn the defensive line.

The Sherwood gloss has worn off already with today’s starting 11 selection and the first substitute. Benteke did achieve several knock downs from early ball up to him, but they all fell to Cleverley, Delph and Westwood who couldn’t score a slate.

Sinclair looked lost in the poison dump position of Left Wing. Why is it a poison dump? because of the type of service you get there. Delph plays the ball to left wing from behind the LW straight at his feet, forcing the LW to collect facing his own goal and return it to Delph., Cleverley only ever plays a ball to a LW square or behind himself. Westwood only plays a long cross-field ball onto the chest of the LW that takes so long to arrive the FB is right up his ass or stepping in front of the LW to intercept. Gabby Benteke, N’Zog and now Sinclair have stood there and all being give passes they can do nothing with. Contrast this to the balls played into space for Hutton to run into on the RW. Gil or Sanchez have given better passes.

N Zog had 3 reasonable shooting chances and took a wild lash at all of them. Useless.

Well, there goes another winnable game. Yes, we probably deserved a draw and created a few more chance than last week, but this game was ours for the taking. Newcastle were there for the taking…3 points could have been taken, and we end up with 0.

I’m gutted that Sherwood doesnt seem to have had as much of an immediate impact as we all hoped. But, is it too late into the season? The team selection is a bit worrying too. Agbonlahor is a waste of a shirt, and why is Gil sat on the bench? Then to take the piss even more he brings on Nzogbia?!! Fair enough if he is injured, but If this had been Lambert, everyone would have screaming blue murder.

The only glimmer of hope I see is that Benteke looked back to his old self today. He plays like that every game and at least we will get some goals. However, 13 goals scored coming into March…does anyone think we will get 20 by the end of the season? Its outrageous really.

To make matters worse, I think the Baggies have only conceded 3 goals since Pulis took over.

yep, we are fecked lads, we are for the drop this year I thinks, I don’t think there are 5 wins in us. at best 2/3 plus a couple of draws, if burnley/sunderland/Qpr/ leciester can’t top that .. well ..

The team is utterly demoralised i would say, due to lack of goals. they are mentally expended and resigned to it I think. its starting to look like a miracle is needed, a player that goes on a scoring run for a few games dragging the team along. I just don’t see that in our squad.

I am mentally preparing myself for the championship next season .. 🙁
