Hull City v Aston Villa by dm_52509f10ef1d3
I actually thought this was an interesting game in the first half.
The two counter-attacking teams were pretty evenly matched and Hull actually sat back even more than we do at home.
Gabby had the best chance with a shot down the middle that stung the goalie’s hands, but that apart there was little to talk about.
Second half, I thought Bruce brought them out to attack us more, which I thought might play into our hands, but the truth is we lacked any cutting edge, the same as Hull did.
The game then retreated to a situation where both sides looked like they would be happy with a point, which is basically what we got.
Tedious probably sums it up and I really don’t know what else to say.
A couple of points.
Hull are extremely poor and are one of my faves to go down (what does that say about us?).
Kuzak? Sorry, I just don’t see it. Far too lightweight for a tall Prem striker, but early days.
Weimann? No comment.
Foul throws? Three this season and two in this game alone. That’s so bloody basic, each offence should be a week’s wages fine. I learned this at the age of seven and if Prem players don’t know this one, well I don’t know what to say.
I have to say, I thought the defence did everything expected of them, but that’s not really saying a lot, as Hull looked as toothless as us.
How we missed Benteke today.
The point is, this should have been three points in the bag, as Hull are really poor.
Ah well, the Villa all over, I guess.
As you may have gathered, I’m not a happy bunny today.
Big plus point; The Villa fans sounded immense on the telly.
Well done lads.

Going to have to agree, these are games we should be winning. 17 chances in one game, we have to be taking at least one of em. Begs the question, would Bent have put them away? I’d like to think at least once!! Definately a much better option than Kozac (shockingly slow)and Weimann. Still, another clean sheet and point on the board, but hope benteke comes back soon.
Agree mate. Btw where was helenius your name sake today! Was he injured
Haha, Not injured, just a bit disappointed. We keep hearing how last season Kozac was Europa League top scorer, but fail to mention he never scored a single league goal. I think he’s more of a 6 yard poacher, but we dont play that sort of football for him to get them chances.
Very boring game but a decent point against a side that will be strong at home. Hull, to be fair are solid at the back.
Kozak didn’t have a great game, but its his 3rd game in the PL, he needs time to settle. Weimann and Westwood were poor, not sure why Westwood was brought back in, he hasn’t warranted a place on this season showings.
Still, we’ve all moaned about our lack of clean sheets, so a 2nd of the season is something positive at least.
Like I said earlier the clean sheet was the main positive. But hull had their main striker out and arnt going to get many goals his season against anyone.
Yep, Bent would probably have got on the end of at least one.
But then you’ll get the “he doesn’t contribute” argument, which is somewhat valid.
I just thought we lacked anyone clinical, which Bent is.
Like I said, we look so lightweight up front without Benteke.
Agree badger I was in a minority last year re bent yes he dosnt work hard but Kozac works hard but not smart which is worse IMO. Bent would have got us 3 points today IMO.
I think the “would Bent be happy playing second fiddle” argument is more relevant. I don’t think keeping him was ever an option.
Well he’s playing second fiddle at Fulham came on as a sub
Please stop looking for problems, I’m happy with point, last year we had 9 points a this stage of play, we have to look at the way Hull plays, we have 10 now , none against please look a the positive and not negative, if you need to get people to talk , ho my God Sunderland’s just scored. Fuck me.
Just seen moyes will be out on his arse if they lose to tge worst team in the prem
Sorry Bill, but I think you’re wrong.
Hull are very poor, even with the experience of Huddlestone and Livermore.
They’re going down, simple as, imo.
Badger123, what im saying is teams can play to stop teams scoring, yes Hull in peoples minds should not even be in the prem, but don’t get carried away Badger123, just take a look at who is who in to days world. we have now teams fighting back to save their jobs.
Agree about the foul throws – unforgivable at this level!
Also agree about Bent – thought it was pretty disgusting the way he was frozen out at Villa. Whatever anyone says, he is a goalscorer and a potential game changer. He would have been a good option for us at the moment, as long as we played to his strengths.
Also agree about Westwood – still think Sylla should be picked over him at the moment.
Considering Lambert has said he is pleased with the amount of attacking options we have, why do we look so toothless without Benteke?
Besides all this, I still don’t think we should be too gutted with a point away to Hull. If we’d have conceded a goal from a corner in the dying minutes, I would have been singing a different tune though!
Spot on bencey you look at the bench and nothing there. I’d have given my right arm to have had bent I reckon he would have scored that chance Kojak missed. Lambert buys a useless striker on last day at £7m ffs who won’t use his left foot been if he had an open goal ffs. Why didn’t he get a creati e midfielder. We are better defensively tbf but at the expense if being toothless up front. How we will manage without cb next year is already worrying me. Lambert is clueless. Btw bacuna did well today so did vlaar and Clark though they were totally shit up front to. 2 mediocre teams going nowhere fast
Bloody hell Ooah, this is the first time I think you’re not far off in your thinking mate.
Glad to hear you are seeing sense mr Badger lol 🙂
Defence kept us in the game and got us the point. We had no creativity and no clinical passing or finishing in attack. We once again kept giving the ball away and Westwood looked shit.Kozak didn’t perform and got a cut for his efforts.A point is good away from home but it is inexcusable to waste an opportunity of getting 3 as Hull are poor.Definately a bad day at the office.
Yep, couldn’t fault the defence JD.
I thought Clark and Vlaar did ok.
Clark and Vlaar played well today seems they are creating a good partnership mate can’t knock a clean sheet but we lost our creativity today needs to find that soon again at home to Spurs UTV
The defence will be tested against the yids.
Note I will call them that, even if the government says it’s wrong, as long as I can.
Fwiw I think we might draw that one can’t see us losing 4.0 again
Good day allround. 3 games without defeat. A clean sheet…2 on the bounce away from home. 2.5 games without Benteke without losing. 10 points from 7 games = better start than last season. Comfortable mid table position. Scum lost at home in front of 2 men and his dog. Manure losing, pathetic defending by them. I repeat, GREAT day allround. Happy, happy Saturday!
We will NOT be relegated
P and P 🙂
Yawn, the Bent argument has been done to death.
He didn’t fit the system nor did Lambert want him. He’s gone, move on and give Kozak time to settle. Look at KEA, slagged off last year, doing well this season. Players need time though its the same old moaners who can’t wait to get on his back.
Not only has it been done to death, its always been looked at in the wrong way, any poster on here that thinks Bent would have been a bench warmer needs their head examined, in the end it was either Benteke or Bent, not both.
I suggest anyone that thinks it was good business to let bent go should read this article especially what jol and Hughes say about him. http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/434692/Fulham-1-Stoke-City-0-Martin-Jol-off-hook-as-brilliant-Darren-Bent-saves-boss?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+daily-express-football-news+%28Daily+Express+%3A%3A+Football+Feed%29
Spot on Ritchie… 3 games in and ooha described Benteke as, wait for it..’the new Heskey’… And I will never tire of reminding him of that!
We will NOT be relegated
P and P 🙂
Whatever the result today we have started well this season and I am happy with our mid table position. That said we should beat Hull and on a better day we would have.We played poorly today in attack and still came away with a point.Clark and Vlaar doing ok together LMAO bet Oohha is loving that eh pal UTV
Ritchie, Bent quite simply cost us too much in wages from Lerner’s pov, but point taken; he’s a luxury, which we apparently can’t afford (bollox, imo, but there you go).
I’m going to stick my neck out on this one (something I rarely do).
Kozak is utter crap and has nothing about him, as far as I can see.
He’s far too lightweight.
He needs to gain at least 20 lbs, which would cost him even more pace.
My prediction says he will be a total failure.
As per usual, I hope I’m wrong.
Kozak ‘is utter crap’… So far in 2.5 games he has won us 3 points at Norwich with a goal and 2 against Man City with an assist/decoy run. If thats crap, long may it continue. He may not be a worldbeater but he has proved to be a capable deputy for Benteke to this point. FFS, give the lad a chance!
A decent argument, which opposes my opinion.
How about putting an article up saying so?
You’ve got the permissions mate, if you can remember the login 😉
We will not be relegated Langford ESP as Sunderland and palace are as good as down already.
Did u see bents goal on motd took it really well gutted he’s gone. Funnily enough his chance came from a mistake from Ireland !
lol! awesome 🙂
Badger my sentiment to,Kozak has a lot to learn watched it twice not finding the right spaces to go into at the right time, if he had gone to that far post when Bacuna crossed an easy goal, again worried about Delf working his socks off and getting into trouble, a for Kea people see things I don’t, not the man for me yet. Oohah Vlaar getting better yes, saviour again he’s finding his feet in the Villa them.
Sorry Delf crossed. But even so poor midfield and poor strikers.
Agree for once bill vlaar starting to look good at long last and glad in proved wrong. I think lambert has had to give him a huge kick up the arse though. And World Cup year has played a part
Pissed off about our performance today but I guess we just have to find the positives. Our defence looked really good today and Guzan not really threatened. 2 clean sheets already this year, I think that’s more than the whole of last season!!
Weimann needs a kick up the arse and benching but there is nobody good enough to bring in. When Benteke is back, Kozak wont get a look in. Not sure what is happening with Helenius, but the more I think about it, the stranger the signings of Helenius and Tonev seem…neither really fit into the system that we play.
Benno, it has to be about depth mate.
Not the depth that we wanted, but wtf do we know?
I remain as confused as you and many others mate.
Thought we were poor today, but aren’t Hull above Man U ?
Just saying.
Hardly relegation fodder living at the foot of the table.
Why is it that utd have a quality youngster januzaj who looks world class at 18 when we have Lowton , Westwood etc. Why are none of our youngsters in that class? Classic example of quantity over quality in our part.
Are you for real ?
Is that a serious question ?
Jack Grealish.
Good piece in the Times today about how players feel the need to go to the “big 4” to become England regulars – but how it doesn’t work.
“Ashley Young may have played in CL and got a PL medal, but if he thinks he has improved as a footballer he is deluded”. Indeed!
Not relevant to this thread but very true.
Thinking about the game yesterday, there wasn’t much movement going on, from midfield to strikers, and to a certain extent from defence to midfield. I don’t know if everyone is now just expecting a long ball but the midfield needs to start being active collecting the ball from the defenders and the strikers need to have more movement into space. The defence were kicking the ball among themselves and there seemed to be three separate lots of players – defence, midfield and strikers – not integrating.
On the downside, it was a turgid game with little to entertainment value at all.
On the upside, we are stifling opposition chances, and it’s a second away clean sheet in a row. Keep them going when Benteke comes back and things may start to look up.
PS – let’s be honest, who would have had us down for conceding eight or less goals in our first seven games ?
id have to disagree on hull being the worst team in the prem, the stats in the table don’t back that up for starters, yes when the winter comes, jan, feb and if they get injuries their depth may find them wanting and struggling come the end but so far this season they have been outstanding only losing to Chelsea and man city, that in its self is a huge testament for a newly promoted team.
as for Kozack, yes give the lad a chance, he came on against Newcastle and his movement was enough for tekkers to get a goal, scored against Norwich and was involved in the winner against citeh(before anyone says he didn’t get a touch we would not have score had he not been in that position challenging for the ball)I admit he doesn’t look great and when I 1st saw him I thought ‘oh my god its another Peter ‘good touch for a big fella’ Crouch’, he’s brand new to the league and the country and I seem to remember tekkers took a while last season to get into his stride didn’t he? jury is out but give the guy a chance he’s played 2 games and 2 as sub!
don’t know why westwood got on yesterday, think sylla should’ve kept his place really.
positives, dare I say it but Vlarr is looking solid this season, much improved as is deplh and kea. bacunna is a revelation, gabby is playing well but wiemann needs a kick up the arse, he’s looked very lazy all season and has blown a few good chances.
id like to see more of hellanius and tonev too.
Mate, you’re talking to people on here who don’t have the greatest concept of football at times.
I agree that Hull aren’t the worst team in the league, I recall someone posting that goalscoring was their Achilles heel after netting five in three games.
They may well go down, but they’re a typical Bruce side that are no pushover. Ask Newcastle and West Ham.
We created chances yesterday, but just weren’t clinical enough to take them.
I’m happy to give Kozack time, some on here said Benteke was useless after a few games. Thankfully, Lambert doesn’t read this site.
And for all the Darren Bent would have scored a goal if played merchants, we’d have probably been under far more pressure as he wouldn’t have got involved, and we’d have probably lost by a couple. Two ways to look at everything.
Vaze that’s all we ever get from you
‘Happy to give this player and that player time’ how many more fuckin players need time that’s all we ever do but get little back in return
I don’t think that’s ‘all you ever get from me’ but I am realistic as to where we stand as a club in the current make up of things.
Just because I’m not a total reactionary loon, who professes that some Man U diving kid is world class and why don’t we have one after one match doesn’t make me the diva.
Remember the name of that Man U world class kid that cost us a win there a few seasons ago ? Whatever happened to him ?
That’s true one goal wonder. But this kid looks the real deal IMO. They will have to have to give him time though! 🙂
Btw WBA doing well beating arsenal after stiffing utd last week. Told anyone who would listen Clarke is better than lamberk. But Wev got to give him time !
And we’re still the only team to beat Arsenal as West Bromich draw. The best thing about Clarke is he has his team playing brilliantly together, but no one stands out. Other than Berahino simply because he’s 20 and scored the winner against United for the first time in 30 or so years. Amalfitano was a brilliant loan pick up though, wouldn’t mind Villa trying to snatch him away in January or next summer permanently.
Agree but kozac is never going to get a sniff when benteke I’d back and rightly so. He is slow and cumbersome has little movement and will never use his left foot even with an open goal on front of him. I just hope he’s not going to be his replacement next season
He won’t, he was bought simply to be back up when Benteke’s out or to give Benteke a rest around 70 minutes against tired legs where his lack of pace won’t be such a problem and he’ll get in behind the defense.
Hope so. Can’t believe he cost £7m what a waste coukd of got a good dm or am for that Ffs
Yeah, we could have, but then with Benteke injured, who do you play up front? We needed a striker. And we’re still linked with a lot of strikers, one from Lokomotiv even claiming he knows that we’re interested in him and have scouted him and he’s their highest scoring striker, Not claiming we’ll sign him in January or next summer, but we’re still looking. So I wouldn’t be too worried about Kozak being our new starting striker up front, but I am glad we finally have options that Lambert feels comfortable playing. I mean we could only have Bowery playing, Or Weimann who’s massively out of form, or Gabby who most have come to the conclusion that he’s not a striker, is that what you’d rather see? Still don’t get how Sylla was dropped, we look better with him and we have a far better points per game ratio with him than without. As he gives Delph more freedom which needs to happen.
Fair point but last week we scored 3 with 3 different scorers and yesterday we wouldn’t have scored if we were still playing now. Kozac was awful in last 2 games he did nothing.
That’s why I still find him as a sub. But we still have no choice but to play him and still think Sylla should have played over Westwood. He’s the reason our midfielders in Delph and Ahmadi can do more because he covers them, Westwood’s not a DM and because we’re not playing the same kind of football we did last season, he doesn’t work in the team. He’d work far better in a Swansea-type team. Still think he was our biggest miss again. I do think Kozak will eventually come well as a sub. Benteke should be back for the Spurs game so hopefully things will change up front. I’d still rather him than Bowery up front.
Typical spurs get hammered before they play us they will be wound up for us now. Agree re kozac no more than a bench warmer and impact player IMO. Sylla should def start over Westwood. Westwood, Lowton and weimann have all gone backwards this season for so e reason.
Think that depends. A lot of their players are International’s, while a few of our foreign players are. We’re getting players back from injury and with the next 2 weeks off, back to full fitness, while Spurs players are going to be playing for the most part this coming 2 weeks. Plus most of our internationals aren’t starters for their Country, other than Tonev, Kozak and Benteke, and 2 of them won’t start against Spurs imo and all 3 probably won’t start, so full fitness should be there for Villa.
I agree those 3 have, but then I also think Weimann’s been lazier in helping Lowton, and Bacuna’s just much better than Lowton. Westwood’s abilities are suited as a deep lying, spread the ball around midfielder, keep possession and keep it under pressure, which he can do, but that’s not us this season. It’s changed to what we were playing late last season where Villa were winning games, quick paced, counter attack or make quick breaks.
Dunno what’s wrong with Weimann, I can see his confidence being low, and it isn’t going to help if he doesn’t start scoring for Austria to beat out Sweden tot he play-offs.
agreed vaze, just saw a stat on the bbc, hull have conceded only 1 goal in the last 5 home games 1 in 5 people! one goal! so a goal avalanche and/or comfortable win yesterday may have been a tad optimistic eh?
Don’t further depress the pessimists. We were awful and should have won by several goals.
Lambert and Lerner out !
No we are giving Lerner and lambert time vaze!!
That’s all we ever get from you, get your act sorted and hound them out.
Saw jack grealish at new street station on Friday, potential recall?
MOTD Video added.
Contains a couple of adverts, but great Hi-def quality.
Ooh ah your probably basing your assumption that kozak won’t use his left foot because of the norwich where he didn’t use his left but ended up scoring anyway! Totally ridiculous to say he will never shoot with his left from the ONE chance he had! He helped in the win against man c and helped us beat norwich so that’s 6 points he has got us already, i would say not a bad start so if he still needs time he will obviously be far better, benteke will always be a reason your opinion on players will mean nothing…the new heskey hahahaha
He had a couple of half chances yesterday and because he tried to shift it onto his right he lost the opportunity. This guy has no left foot whatsoever and wind even have a go with it. He is the new heskey!! 🙂
I hope so, 9 goals in his last 23 games Heskey has, despite playing in Australia. If Kozak could even score 5 in his first 23 games, that’s not a bad start for him.
9 in 23 isn’t great given that it’s Oz, imo.
And 5 in 23 for Kozak?
That’s crap for a striker mate, not even one in four??????
Eh, but as said, he’s going back as a sub, so that’s hardly crap if he’s not playing 90 minutes every game. Going back on last season that’s better than Bent, Bowery and Dawkins put together. That’s better than our entire midfield last season put together. Our obvious goal scorers are Weimann, Gabby and Benteke and that would be a total of 2 goals off Weimann for the entire season last season. I do think he can and will do better than that, but 5 in 23 isn’t that bad for one that just came in and is still progression as our 2nd highest striker goal scorer last season was 3 from Bent in 16 games, 8 being starts and he’s a player a lot are claiming shouldn’t have been loaned out.
So in total he’d get around 8 goals in total, which isn’t too bad. Gabby hasn’t even scored yet this season in the league, and Weimann has 1.
Yep one goal every 4.5 matches is just what we need…not!
Why not? Give me a sub striker who can score 8 goals, while Benteke, Gabby and Weimann score what they did last season, and that’s 1 less than our entire midfield and back up strikers did last season. This isn’t including an upgrade in goals from Ahmadi and Delph I’d expect if Sylla started, maybe a couple more from Clark, Bacuna, Vlaar and Luna. Add in Helenius and Tonev each getting a couple and such. Imagine, just imagine if Bent scored 5 more goals in the games he played for us last season. Just 5 more. We wouldn’t have been in 15th at the end of the season, but probably closer to 12th or even higher as we were 8 points off 8th and would you not have been more relieved? Surely I know I would have as would most fans. But no, Bent scored 3 goals in 16 games, Might I add that’s worse than a goal every 4.5 games.
10 points from 7 games is not a bad start if we can keep this up 40 points from 28 games UTV
Well put, and 4th place only has 14 points and we’re only 6 points off 1st, while we’re not getting either, we’re not far off the mark and after Spurs and Everton, we’ve faced just about every “big” team but United. And that’s after 9 games so it’s a brilliant start. Then we go into your West Ham’s, Cardiff’s, West Bromich, Sunderland, Southampton and Fulham before the game against United. Although I’d prefer to play United soon, as they’re terrible at the moment, but quite confident with Benteke back soon that we can really have a go at them other than maybe Southampton who are just so good at the moment.
We have played some tough games and ground out a clean sheet at an inform Hull team at their ground. We had bad luck at Chelsea and we have beaten Arsenal,Norwich away and beat Citeh at home.Losing to Liverpool and Newcastle in the fashion we did first halves was our low points….But this is a young team in a big division still finding their feet massive start but still think on a good day would of beaten Hull to UTV
I do agree with that, Villa missed a solid finisher against Hull, but then these things happen. Think we should start looking to loan out the likes of Stieber and Siegrist, even to other League’s better clubs who could even play in Europe. It’s doing wonders for City’s Non-English youth.
Saints are doing excellent at the moment well ahead of us and spent more money to Ffs. WBA will be hard and west h just beat spurs away 3,0, Sunderland unlucky not to get at least a point v utd so don’t assume we will get many points of these sides as I think they are all better than us except Sunderland
West Bromich are doing very well, don’t get me wrong, however that doesn’t mean they’re not their defensively for the taking. Arsenal created a few good chances that Benteke would have put away. United are just pish and now West Bromich’s form has been stopped because of International break.
Southampton are clearly better than us, but then their biggest signing, Osvaldo, doesn’t like the EPL, has even come out and claimed that he wants to leave already. But their Manager’s arguably the one of, if not the best in the league right now, probably behind Wenger of course but is doing very well.
The rest of those sides aren’t better than Villa in any way, shape or form. West Ham had a good game against Spurs, Spurs were terrible in the 2nd half, but that in no way means they’re better than us. The scored 4 goals in 6 games before today. Cardiff are far from good, Fulham are sitting 17th, I don’t think Bent can play against us and that’s their major weapon gone.
We’re better than all of those sides but Southampton.
Utd are pish!! Trust me with Rooney Rvp they will still finish miles ahead of us this year. Southampton took a game last year exactly what we should of done gone for a forward thinking manager like they’ve done instead of lamberk. WBA will finish above us so will west ham remember they have a shrewd manager in big Sam
No shit they’re going to finish above us… However no one is afraid of United, watch their games this season, they tend to get out played just about every single one but their only star player, Rooney at this very moment is their bail out. But that has to do with RVP being injured.
West Bromich are going to finish above us… Why? Yeah they beat United and drew Arsenal, but they also went their first 3 games without a goal and their first goal came in I believe stoppage time in the 4th to draw. They’ve shown little to figure they’ll finish above us.
Yes, Big Sam is a shrewd manager, but again other than beating Spurs, they’ve done nothing of sort to show they’ll finish above us. Hell even with our start those 2 teams are both below us. Claiming teams will finish above us just be negative and not actually backing your points as per usual looks stupid.
We shall see
And apparently 54 points at the end of the season JD.
Not too shabby, but hardly exciting either.
About our level, I’d say.
Boring!
54 points last season puts us 8th, and I believe it could be even higher than that this season with even the quality of the big teams not showing. With this team, that’s far from boring.
And that would be quite the progression, no?
8th isn’t bad, I suppose, but it panders to the likes of Ooah, who says we’re just treading water.
If we get that 8th, will we be able to move on?
I seriously doubt it, without a major injection of money.
That’s what the game has come down to.
It has come down to that, unfortunately. However I can see some good money being spent next summer, and more being spent on a couple players than having an a large amount of players coming in for cheap, more bigger money signings. Especially if we finish 8th. And the fact that only need a few positions filled with better players than a whole new team with back up will also be a huge help. I mean we could have had Wanyama for 1m before he went to Celtic, and I do believe Lambert could find someone as good as him for the amount of money Villa spent on Kozak (who I still find necessary for this season), then someone like Popov would come in for around 10m, maybe a CB and another striker if we lose Benteke. And we’d have a much better team than this season, we’d also have Okore back and probably only have lost Benteke and hopefully give Gardner a new contract. Although that does all depend on how much Villa spend next season but that’s still a long way off and there’s still links to buys in January which I still find possible.
The fact we won’t keep cb is a going to be a huge loss for us and just underlines our small club selling status
If we finished 8th a) we would never keep our best players to kick on and B) Lerner will spend fuck all. Lerner out
You’re making a claim that Lerner would spend fuck all, yet you have no idea if he’d be willing to spend. 8th place compared to 15th is nearly 5m more just from Premier League places alone for Villa and Lerner. 5m is a lot of money.
And who else would we sell? Bacuna? Maybe,,, Weimann signed a long term contract, Gabby’s never wanted to leave, Clark and Baker probably won’t leave. Luna might go back to Spain to a “bigger” team like Valencia or Atletico. But these players aren’t going to get picked off like you claim they will.
There is no way we will get over 50 point if we do it’s because league is weaker this year not because Wev improved
These are the typical garbage posts I’d expect. Of course the EPL’s weaker, but we’ve definitely improved. 8 goals in our first 7 games in the hardest start you’ll see in a while that Villa have conceded. Villa have a positive goal difference, despite it being a +1 from the hardest start in the league by far.
Spot on badger we are a boring mediocre team like hull going nowhere fast. Unless learner ever sells and can’t see that happening for years we will never do anything
We’re boring… Like Hull? Wow you never cease to amuse.
So u think we played exciting football on sat then !
Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither was 80-81-82-83 took time did the glory years Lamberts trying to build a team…UTV
I’m not so sure JD.
I could see the progression in the late 70’s.
I don’t see it now, as much as we all want it.
As per usual when I say something negative, I hope I’m wrong
54 points would be a massive progression imagine the season after pal UTV
Hmm, see my above reply to Andrew.
Mid table isn’t good enough for me, but that’s just my opinion
I think any of us would love to be back in Europe mate and I’m sure Lambert wants that to UTV
Mid-table is good enough after our last 2 seasons, and it would calm down so many fans if we had 40 points by the 28th game, no? Going into the last 10 without having to win 6-7 of them to stay up or even be calm and on the way we wouldn’t have to fully worry about being pulled into the relegation battle, meaning the players aren’t going to be so nervous by February that they can’t keep up. Imagine being able to be 8th, showing improvement after improvement, and only being worried about losing 1 player? Lerner sees massive improvement, willing to spend more money in hopes of a top 6 spot then, playing better football next season where we don’t only have to counter attack but bring in a few players that will dominate the games against Newcastle and Hull. This is all hypothetical of course at the moment as we are only 7 games in, but after our next 2 games, we have 5 winnable games and Southampton, depending on their form still.
Badger… if you take our top division finishes over history i think we sit about 9th.. so why isn’t mid table good enough for u.. we are hardly a top 3 team who have fallen are we!!??
Obv as a fan we all want high finishes and top four would be fantastic but we have to be realistic…
Because 9th place is not good enough for us. Just because Wev not finished in the top 4 didn’t mean that we shouldn’t. We are European cup winners Ffs. Look at Southampton they are 4th and they don’t normally finish high. Lerner should be ashamed of himself that clubs like Southampton and Swansea show more ambition than us. Lerner out
Swansea spent 1.2m Euros more than us, and most of that was on a striker we almost bought before we got Benteke. They haven’t showed more ambition.
Southampton went the buy expensive but buy few way. 40m spent on 3 players. 1’s claimed he doesn’t like the EPL, 1’s a very talented DM and 1’s a good CB. However, they’re also a team that sells, a lot. But you’re right, they don’t usually end high, but we’re 7 games in. They’ve also only played West Bromich away and won, Sunderland at home and drew, Norwich away and lost, West Ham United home and drew, Liverpool away and won, Crystal Palace home and won, Swansea home and won. The only 2 teams we’ve faced that they faced, were opposite results, we beat Norwich and lost to Liverpool. They haven’t faced any of the big boys yet bar Liverpool, we’ve faced all of them bar United, and about to be Spurs and Everton. So relax a little bit about them “showing ambition”.
They will still finish ahead of us I’d swap their team for ours in a heartbeat. And their manager to
True badger I remember those days when sir Ron came you just had a feeling it was going to happen and just a matter of time. Now I feel that in 10 years time we will be roughly where we are now. 17 years without a troohy isn’t good enough and Lerner please do one
Are you and vaze brothers. Ur another one that goes on about give them time be patient. Wev won nothing for 17 years Ffs longest iv ever know. Even the scum win a trophy
No arguing with that comment JD.
Europe, even if it’s the Europa league, means we’re still in the game.
As much as most of us don’t like it, the Europa gets your name highlighted more than if you’re not in it, fact.
Absolutely, it also adds money to the club, and players like playing in Europe. Spurs attracted so many top players being in the Europa League, of course they all thought they’d be joining a team challenging for the CL/title, but they’re still willing to leave other big clubs for that. Liverpool attracted talent and aren’t even in Europe. Plus Thursday’s would be more fun watching Villa play other clubs that few know about and seeing how they do. I still love watching the Europa League.
Andrew, I’m mulling over your points, but have to walk the mutt.
Just like Arnie, “I’ll be back” shortly
Europa league is shit we don’t need it and I hope we don’t get it period
I might not like the current format of the Europa League but its benefits to the club in terms of attracting and retaining players and increasing the clubs “visibility ” in Europe are clear. Plus, I would love to see us take on some different sides from across Europe.
Players like benteke only care about CL not Europa league
Europe would keep certain players at the club and attract others UTV
Europa aint so bad, Chelsea certainly didn’t look like they weren’t bothered when they won it, jonh terry even run off to get in his kit he was so excited!
if we finished 8th I think we’d see a significant investment from learner, or put it this way, id be very disappointed if we didn’t that would show the ‘treading water’ theory as spot on.
there’s going to be ups and downs again this season, highs(6-1 sunderland) lows(the games we shall not mention, you know the ones)but id see a top ten finish as significant progress.
