History Repeating itself

IanRobo has submitted the following and I have to say I’m sympathetic to what he’s saying;

Well I could speak about today’s game but what is the point ?

When an owner restricts a manager to such low wage levels what do you expect ?

I guess for some it is easy to scream and shout Lambert out, that’s the cop out for any fan including those who supported Lambert’s appointment. Nah the difficult one is to ask for Lerner to go isn’t it ?

The owner always has the cop out for them and that is the mug who is the manager. Under Ellis we had many of them and now we see the same. We hear Lambert has spent £40M but what is the point if you are restricted to championship level of wages ?

So lets sack Lambert and you really trust Lerner to pick a decent manager given his track record ?

– A sick man

– A hated man

– An overrated man and so-called fans favourite

Go on who do you want then ?

Or is it history repeating itself ?

agreed. not defending lambert here because its not just the players that are the problem, ive often scratched my head at lamberts tactics but just lately I don’t think anyone on or off the pitch really knows what the fuck we are supposed to be doing out there.
but lambert has with his 40mil had to get in not just 1 or 2 players, or even 4 or 5 but a whole new squad with a restricted wage budget on top meaning we cant even get in any decent loan players.
we have in the squad 3 players of prem quality and a few prospects who might come good but that’s it and my god does it show.
unfortunately I don’t see any changes, we might scrape through again to safety and we might go down but I don’t see learner spending or sacking lambert, it’ll be just more of the same.
the only way any of us can demonstrate against this is simply not to go, attendences have been excellent this season despite the god awful football and results, a lot of this is down to season tickets sold pre season in the wave of optimism after keeping benteke and the end of season form. it was noticeable however at the united sell out game the empty home seats of stay away season ticket holders.
I cant get to the game tomorrow but even if I could I wouldn’t be there, I love and support my team but me going down there only condones the way we are being treated and says that I think this is acceptable.
trouble is by the time we are struggling to get 15 thou at home to Yeovil learner will be long gone and villa for him will be a distant memory but we will still be here.

Lerner was NEVER right from the beginning. Football clubs need football people from top to bottom. We have literally NO footballing people in our current set up…and yes, that includes the manager who has tried but failed….but then again, who wouldnt under the current financial constraints?

Lerner clearly just needs to change his approach to the whole thing. I do believe if he just upped his wage budget and maybe reduced the transfer budget he can still be a good chairman. Although I have had enough of lambert, Lerner does give his managers time and support. I have never understood why a club has to spend every transfer window. I’d happily see one player, per window, 10m transfer,60 to 70k wage. Two quality players would do wonders to our team

    Depression,
unable to preform or function, Hormonal or chemical formula imballance. This sounds like Villa right now. How do we help?
    1 Understand the symptons,
    2 Support them,
3 Have patiance, give them time,
Most of all don’t blame anyone, we could be just as much to blame, planting the seeds of doubt, with negative comments. We have all seen what they are capable of. If our loved ones, the ones close to us, (god forbid) came down with a similar afliction would we be as quick and eager to get rid/replace them? No so what then?
Nothing, nothing will change, why? Because that’s the way it is ! Isn’t it?j

Tom…I agree with that one mate. We desperately need a LB and 1 or 2 midfielders in the Jan window. For me it would be Barry and Ince midfield and Rose or the Chelse 3rd choice LB i think its Barnard?

Yeah good shout. I agree on Barry but is he not at Everton for whole season? I think there are a couple loan options from city Sinclair,Barry, lescott. Bertrand would be a great signing and he really is quality.
In an ideal world we want 3 or 4 players. But realistically and certainly within our capability we could get 2 good quality players and I believe that would be enough to see us finish this season comfortable. Then in the summer anther 1 or 2.
So going on what I have just said I would fill the left back position and a strong defensive midfielder. If we could have a team like below we could start turning this mess around.

      Guzan
      Bacuna. Vlaar Clark. Bertrand

      Albrighton Anderson El Ahmadi Delph

      Benteke wieman

totally hate loans and hate those who suggest them, Did we not learn from Kyle Walker all it does is to hep other teams out in the long term ?

Loans for PL teams should be banned and esp those between PL teams.

To suggest Barry is hilarious !!

This is the team I would like to see at the end of Jan (providing okore is fit!)
    4-1-4-1
    Guzan
Lowton – Vlaar – Okore – Rose (or bertrand)
    Barry
    Bacuna – Sylla – N Zogbia – Gabby
    Benteke
To achieve this would not cost too much (even for Randy) max of 12 million
It would give us a decent defence, a creative and combatative midfield with a few options on the bench…where the rest probably belong!
    Any thoughts?

I like this – Bertrand is more the likely option than Rose, Id try get Rodwell in the middle for N’Zogbia and Zaha on loan (surely he will go somewhere in the prem)

I think it would work well with Barry covering LB and Bacuna RB. Zaha would be excellent as well. None of this would cost alot and I am convinced we could get out of trouble and regroup (again) in the summer!
p.s. I only put N Zogbia in to save a bit of Randy’s cash 🙂

the responses to this post shows that history does repeat itself. These were the same debates 10 years ago, 20 years ago and always the same answers

    – sack manager
    – buy more players

    etc

Should we not ask ourselves why the academy has failed to produce any top quality players, whereas the likes of Southampton, Everton etc have ?

Should we not ask ourselves why some things repeat at our club ?

Those are far more difficult ones to answer

This whole Culverhouse swearing at our fans affair sums up what I have thought of Lamberk from day one, him and his coaching staff are not only completely crap but they are also extremely patronising, moronic and devoid of any personality.
This club is screwed until it removes ever single element of the lamberk era, the man is a egotistical buffoon and I am ashamed he is our manager.
Still, wondering what to put my money on tommorow, 3-0, 4-0 or 5-0 to Swansea??? Decisions, think we’re going to get the battering we are long overdue against the Swans and hopefully that and the chorus of boos and abuse that follows will be enough to turf the clueless oaf and his tosspot coaching staff out.
We need a continental manager ASAP, someone with a bit of intelligence and tactical knowledge. The managers are out there, time to go get one of them.

Lambert has to go, saying that Lambert like McCleish is a symptom to the huge problems our club has. We are being run on a spreadsheet by a couple of cowboys. Lerner, Faulkner and Lambert have all got to go and the sooner the better. We have the worst home form out of all 92 league teams we are shit

as I said on the blogs a few weeks ago.. people are dreaming. I don’t mean to offend anyone here as I totally understand the claret and blue blood runs deep inside as it does me, however, us VILLA FANS need a reality check.. when I hear comments like “we want our villa back” or “we are aston villa and demand more” im sorry but I don’t get it. im only 32 and I have supported the villa from cornwall since 1993 so about 20 years. they are my passion, what I wake up thinking about… however, im really sorry but football has changed, its no longer a level playing field.. its all about money money money. Mr Lerner could spend 50m per season and it would guarantee nothing!! not even the illusive top 4 spot. City, chelsea, man utd , Liverpool. I love villa park, theres something special about it (everybody says that0 but the fact is it has been overtaken.. Liverpool, city, utd, arsenal and spurs all have or are planning to have bigger stadiums than villa park.

there are a few exceptions to the rule.. Everton, a club with similar financial pulling power I would say doing really well. This is on the back of 10 years continuality. David Moyes was a massive success at everton but I must stress HE DIDNT WIN ANYTHING?

There are things I would of done differently at villa for sure.. Lerner of Faulkner has made some massive mistakes don’t get me wrong BUT I really think sticking with Lambert is the way forward.

Right now if mourinho took charge of villa and we gave him 2 years to get his team together.. villa would finish no higher than 8th. that’s fact.. 10 years of mourinho we might push top 5.

Im sorry lads but whats the difference 15th to 8th??

More money if we frinshed 8th than 15th but I get your point some chairman dont care how well you play as long you stay up take levy if Tottenham played shit football but frinshed top 4 he wouldnt care football is that crap no longer fun or an art form what I say to any fans of any club if dont like it stop going the sooner fans do this the better but we seem to have a lot of asshole stupid fans that complain about how shit football is but still hand out their wallets

I have a season ticket I travel to and from the games and the results don’t always bother me. Seeing a bloody good game of football and hoping we have a player or two of some calibre would be something to cheer about. Our football is shit, our team is shit our stats are all shit our owner is shit our CEO is shit. Our fans have been very patient and I believe our fans are amongst the best in the country. We deserve better our owner oes not show any respect and our manager lies to us every week.

You obviously never saw us win the European cup. Greatest moment ever and it set the standard or should have. Villa fans are spoilt but so are other top 4 teams. When Lerner first came he was going to extend VP up to 50,000 but that died a death. Unfortunately u have to build the team first build it and they will come!! Lerner said years ago he us a custodian of the club and will butt out if he can’t succeed with us. Now is the time for him to keep that promise and go

I think Martin O’neil had it bang to rights, told Leaner he can’t go any further with Villa without bringing in better players. To add to or replace what we already had, But as we know he sold our best, and bought in players who realy were not of the standard that was sold. S Ireland never wanted to play at villa, He made money on sales and saved on wages. Since then even bigger savings. So how can we expect to stay in the prem let alone finnish mid table. Who have we got now that could equal, what we had?
A young, J milner, G barry, J collins, R dunn, J carew, S petov, S downing. + some others look at the quality we lost, we could have bought all these youngsters in for the fee of one of the above what hope have we realy when you look at the squad we had.
Reality check with that squad O’Niel knew we would not make top4. Talk about going back to the drawing board, it is going to be a very long slow process, and be it Lambert or the special one!!! That’s the way it is. Ask LERNER, take the L away then you have it ERNER £££££££££ thats all its about no sentiment in buisness. Maximum profit. And the way I see it when Lambert said years I BELIEVE it. A couple of years. yes we keep so and so, bring in more youngsters, a couple more years yes we keep so and so and so on, can you work out how long it would take? as he said years how could he estimate how many!!!!!! UTV. one day hopefully
