Aston Villa Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Rémi Garde as our new manager.

The 49-year-old Frenchman is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting coaches and has agreed a contract that will run until the end of season 2018/19.

Rémi enjoyed a successful three-year period as manager of Ligue 1 side Lyon where he led the club to the Couple de France and Trophee des Champions as well as the quarter-finals of the Europa League, successfully implementing his own brand of highly entertaining football in the process.

He is also renowned for developing young talent and the Club is thrilled to have secured his services.

Tom Fox, Aston Villa Chief Executive, said: “For the past year we have been working purposefully to transform the Club in order to build a successful organisation that can compete and succeed in the Premier League.

“Finding a manager who shares and believes in our vision and has the ability to bring it to life through performances on the pitch is essential. We are confident that Rémi is the manager who can deliver the best from the current squad and help set the club up for future success”.

Rémi Garde said: “It is an unbelievable honour to be the manager of such an illustrious football club.

“I’ve had extremely positive meetings with both the owner, Randy Lerner, and Chief Executive Tom Fox. They have ambitious plans for the Club and I’m excited that they have turned to me to help them realise them.

“Obviously we have a difficult task in front of us but I’m looking forward to the challenge with the support of everyone who loves Aston Villa.”

Chairman Randy Lerner added: “Rémi came with ideas, honesty, humour and a steely sense of what it will take for Aston Villa to be what it is meant to be – hard working, tireless, creative and unwilling to concede.

“Nobody at Villa can deny that we are way behind. We recruited aggressively this past summer and it is our responsibility to now harvest this talent rather than buckle under pressure and criticism – we are better than that. On behalf of the Board we wish Rémi every success.”

  1. With Garde in the stands, Kev tried the masterstroke of starting the entire dungeon squad, though Richards was removed by the FA with a text to his phone an hour before KO. (Should have left it on the bus).

My worry was some of them would have a great game and buy themselves a few matches, But no, only two minutes in that idea was buried. Hutton ambling towards a vacant RB slot that he should have been in – watched Clark roasted by Dembele despite hanging on to him like an anchor and Guzan spread his legs for the acute angle nutmeg.

Gabby did nothing, a back line of Hutton Clark Lescott and Richardson gave a horror show. Westwood was outmuscled until whacked in the face and subbed.

2-0 at half time all done and dusted. Spurs wound down and relaxed, but Ayew and Gestede were getting into the game and Ayew scored. All change for the last 2o minutes, as Spurs looked a panicky shambles unable to rise to the threat. Villa picked up all the loose balls and better shooting would have seen us level or ahead. That and a cutting out of balls to Hutton, whose crossing plumbed new depths of incompetence, or should that be Rose to new depths because every time Rose was in the way Hutton hit him. In injury time Spurs finally found the composure on the ball Villa lacked and Lamela played Kane in for the clincher.

Garde did not applaud our goal, Well, difficult to do that when you are handcuffed to Fox in the next seat to prevent you scooting for the next Eurostar. The Villa Express is in the sidings, we have a Garde can we find a Driver by the weekend?

    1. Oll u can’t blame Hutton for first goal blame Ckarke and Lescott for not reading the danger.

  2. Things Garde needs to do tomorrow:

    1) Send Gabby on gardening leave with immediate effect
    2) Lescott and Richardson into the reserves
    3) Start building a team around GIl and Ayew
    4) Bring back Kozak as the main centre forward
    5) Bring back Senderos and partner him with Okore
    6) Bench Sanchez and bring back Veretout
    7) Give Grealish the kick up the backside he needs

Then, just maybe then we might have a 5% chance of staying up. Sticking with the current method will see us finish bottom on less than 20 points

  3. Watching that the overriding impression I got is that it isn’t the new players they’ve brought in it’s the old guard. Gabby was a complete shower, Westwood, don’t start me, Clarke, give it a break, Guzan, useless.
No if we have any hope it’s the new blood the Lambert/ Mcleish/MON lot are championship players at best, stick with them and that’s where we’re going.

  4. Funnily enough, it had crossed my mind whether KMac’s selections for these last two games have been deliberate ones designed to give the walking dead enough rope with which to hang themselves, without waiting for the new man to do it.

Judging by the expression on Garde’s face at times, I think KMac has just saved him about a month’s work, and it might be that we’ve seen the last of three or four of these guys for all time – barring a complete injury or illness melt-down at BMH…

    1. I think you be onto something there, Jesus Gabby f**k me I’ve seen better players for Brantley Rovers and to play with out a big fella up front so the ball keeps coming back and where the f**k were his runs ??? He should be arrested for impersonating a football player! Grealish no doubt the kids got ability but believing his own press or what? Gill was a breath of fresh air. I could go on but it was there for all to see, f**k off the old guard and get in the kids they bought that can play.

        1. I’ve always stood his corner but enough is enough, f**k him off in the Jan window (some sucker will buy him) and save an arm and a leg of the wage bill.

    2. Listening to Gary Neville it said Kev Mcs line was a statement, the players we bought in the summer weren’t good enough! Really Kev Mc and we wonder why the kids from the academy don’t cut it!

        1. Makes me think that the academy needs new management or they’ll be trotting out the same rubbish every year – teams built to win the old Central League – ‘coz nobody’s told Uncle Kevin that it ceased to exist years ago…

  5. Got to get shot of:
    Guzan
    Clarke
    Lescott
    Hutton
    Richardson
    Westwood
    Gabby

I’d keep everyone else, as I think they can be developed.

  6. Watch Clarke for their third goal. He’s sucked to the ball and leaves Kane totally unmarked. Anyone who thinks he is a premier league quality centre half clearly knows nothing about defending! He either doesn’t get tight enough to his man or gets too tight like the first goal today. Practically every game he plays he is responsible for us conceding at least one goal. He is frequently out of position and confused everyone around him! I’m sorry to say it, Keiran, as you’re full of effort, but you’re just not up to it.

    1. I am afraid you are right about Clark, but he might do as a sub left back because Richardson can no longer do 90 mins, and Amavi likewise is expected to play as LB and LW which cannot be done for the full game.

  7. Agree we need a clear out but I have to admit that Guzan has to be the first out of the door. Whatever problems the defence may have are multiplied by having a keeper they just can’t trust.

We need Okore back and some stability in defence. Whatever agreement Richards has had for now I’d play him at RB with Okore and Senderos/Clark in the centre and Amavi at LB. If we’d have started with Gestede and Amavi we might have won that game. We needed another option rather than just playing everything on the ground. F*** Gabby off to Wolves or somewhere, he’s turned into a total waste of space.

Despite the loss still optimistic. That was McDonald’s team, really dying to see who Garde plays against Man City.

  8. If our captain is a lazy twat what chance have we got.
It is even worse that he is supposed to be a villa fan.
I hope that was gabbys last EVER game.
