Aston Villa Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Rémi Garde as our new manager.

The 49-year-old Frenchman is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting coaches and has agreed a contract that will run until the end of season 2018/19.

Rémi enjoyed a successful three-year period as manager of Ligue 1 side Lyon where he led the club to the Couple de France and Trophee des Champions as well as the quarter-finals of the Europa League, successfully implementing his own brand of highly entertaining football in the process.

He is also renowned for developing young talent and the Club is thrilled to have secured his services.

Tom Fox, Aston Villa Chief Executive, said: “For the past year we have been working purposefully to transform the Club in order to build a successful organisation that can compete and succeed in the Premier League.

“Finding a manager who shares and believes in our vision and has the ability to bring it to life through performances on the pitch is essential. We are confident that Rémi is the manager who can deliver the best from the current squad and help set the club up for future success”.

Rémi Garde said: “It is an unbelievable honour to be the manager of such an illustrious football club.

“I’ve had extremely positive meetings with both the owner, Randy Lerner, and Chief Executive Tom Fox. They have ambitious plans for the Club and I’m excited that they have turned to me to help them realise them.

“Obviously we have a difficult task in front of us but I’m looking forward to the challenge with the support of everyone who loves Aston Villa.”

Chairman Randy Lerner added: “Rémi came with ideas, honesty, humour and a steely sense of what it will take for Aston Villa to be what it is meant to be – hard working, tireless, creative and unwilling to concede.

“Nobody at Villa can deny that we are way behind. We recruited aggressively this past summer and it is our responsibility to now harvest this talent rather than buckle under pressure and criticism – we are better than that. On behalf of the Board we wish Rémi every success.”

    1. I rate Clark quite highly. He’s playing on the wrong side due to Richards being out, we have two left footed CB’s and I don’t think Clark’s ever played on that side. Plus he just came back from injury and he was put in the squad shockingly because of Richards late suspension.

      1. Pathetic. He is a CB. He got sucked in too tight. Nothing to do with his leftfootedness. Poor play full stop. He was at fault last game as well. Nothing against Clark who occasionally looks the business, but that was poor at any level.

        1. Of course it was poor, and has everything to do with him being left footed and playing on the left. He’s not used to playing on that side, therefore got turned the wrong way in which he’s not used too.

          1. Ridiculous. First you gave a bunch of excuses for one of your favourites, without conceding it was poor. Then you stick with that line. Let’s see you use the same line when Lescott has to cover out of position and cocks up. What Clark had to do was the same as if he was on the other side. It also showed up what is for me his biggest weakness (just ahead of lapses in concentration) which is a real lack of pace. If you don’t have the pace to recover you shouldn’t overcommit when you know (or should know) you have no cover behind you. Or maybe his left foot masked his judgement and awareness. You do talk some shit.

          2. Not ridiculous at all. When you’re not used to playing on a side that you’re forced to cover, and having no help from that side as Hutton’s never in position, you’re going to get fucked.

Clark doesn’t have pace, he got turned the wrong way. I said it was poor but he never should’ve been put in said situation. He doesn’t have the pace or strength to hold off Dembele.

Clark on the other side would’ve been in a better position than that. Where he’s more used to being.

          3. You see where Richardson is in comparison to Hutton? You also see where Hutton is on the 2nd goal? Both out of position

  1. Another shocking line up as predicted. I know the players like Macdonald, but from what I can see, he is useless. He even managed to get thrashed when he was in charge of O’Neills team!

Where is Gana? Why is Amavi on the bench? aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh

  2. I was hoping for a flukey win tonight that would give Remi a bit of breathing space by keeping us in the pack and not chasing it. That went out the window !

  3. Hope Garde to says a big fuck off to Clarke, Richardson, Agbonlahor, Westwood and Hutton. They’re crap!!

  4. Mike Dean clearly saw the elbow fly into the face of Westwood, saw him rolling around covering his face, and it takes Clark kicking it out for him to get treatment. Wow

  5. Shame for Westwood but lucky injury in that it forces one of our better players onto the field.

  6. And that’s why Hutton’s garbage. He was standing about a foot from Clark instead of being out wide where he should’ve been and there was no one to even put pressure on the cross.

    1. Behave Andrew Clarke was at fault he was trying to being him down and couldn’t do that properly

  7. You could practically see Garde thinking “what the hell have I got myself into here?”.

  8. Gabby doing very little out there – I would take him off and bring on another midfielder to at least shore things up and move Sinclair or Ayew up. The back line may be experienced but it just isn’t working. I’d be happy to sub any of them right now.

  9. Apart from the first and last minute we weren’t too bad. First minute Clark too weak and Guzan allowed a nutmeg for the goal. Last minute nobody marking Alli. 2-0 we’re basically f***ed. Now turned Sky off as I can’t bear to watch any more.

Garde welcome to the reality of the EPL.

    1. Sick of these defensive errors Garde must wish he stayed in his cushy number as a tv pundit

  10. Bring on Gestede and actually cross the ball – the Spurs centre halves are coasting.

  11. McDonald the dithering fucker. What a shit lineup. Hope remi sends him packing. To me that lineup was a two fingers up to the board. Looks like Grealish is going to be another villa youth player to fade away.

Gary Neville just taking the pics out of Gabby. 8 touches in the first half. 2 were kick offs ! Lol !
