Aston Villa Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Rémi Garde as our new manager.
The 49-year-old Frenchman is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting coaches and has agreed a contract that will run until the end of season 2018/19.
Rémi enjoyed a successful three-year period as manager of Ligue 1 side Lyon where he led the club to the Couple de France and Trophee des Champions as well as the quarter-finals of the Europa League, successfully implementing his own brand of highly entertaining football in the process.
He is also renowned for developing young talent and the Club is thrilled to have secured his services.
Tom Fox, Aston Villa Chief Executive, said: “For the past year we have been working purposefully to transform the Club in order to build a successful organisation that can compete and succeed in the Premier League.
“Finding a manager who shares and believes in our vision and has the ability to bring it to life through performances on the pitch is essential. We are confident that Rémi is the manager who can deliver the best from the current squad and help set the club up for future success”.
Rémi Garde said: “It is an unbelievable honour to be the manager of such an illustrious football club.
“I’ve had extremely positive meetings with both the owner, Randy Lerner, and Chief Executive Tom Fox. They have ambitious plans for the Club and I’m excited that they have turned to me to help them realise them.
“Obviously we have a difficult task in front of us but I’m looking forward to the challenge with the support of everyone who loves Aston Villa.”
Chairman Randy Lerner added: “Rémi came with ideas, honesty, humour and a steely sense of what it will take for Aston Villa to be what it is meant to be – hard working, tireless, creative and unwilling to concede.
“Nobody at Villa can deny that we are way behind. We recruited aggressively this past summer and it is our responsibility to now harvest this talent rather than buckle under pressure and criticism – we are better than that. On behalf of the Board we wish Rémi every success.”

Bienvenue, Remi, Bonne chance!
Great appointment. He will still need time to turn things around – so we shouldn’t expect a win against Man City this weekend – but I think he could really turn things around for us.
It’s hard to vote either way as I know FUCKall about him besides his French & managed Lyon.
I like the misspelling on the photo of him though – says Welcome Remy, not Welcome Remi
Seems he was first choice so that’s a positive. He has a tough task, yet at the same time inherits a talented squad. The suggestion is that he is attack minded. I hope so, but I hope also that he doesn’t lose his nerve like Villa managers often do.
I wish him (and us) luck.
Ah a vintage brandy for our manager – Giddy you can vote positively now!
Nahhh I’m not getting carried away yet,I’m going to need some convincing.
I haven’t voted yet, as I’m with you Giddy, in that I don’t know what to think.
Bullish words from Lerner.
No mention of any assistants.
No particular viewpoint atm, just posting facts 🙂
Trust me Badger this is a good manager
FUCK me you actually rate someone sure you ain’t been hitting the cooking sherry.
He is the best of all the managers out there he is a manager with a brain and is no lingual for once Lerner has got it right
Welcome Remi time will tell if he is a good appointment. I hope he is a success and get’s this team moving up the table. Come on the Villa
Incredibly excited by this appointment, should be interesting who he gets as assistants.
Thought to be stuck in France due to the Fog holding up flights. Hasn’t met the players yet. Should be interesting after today.
No he was stuck due to the Frog lol
I read that post on Villa web page, I like the part it says , it’s good to have a manager that shares our ideas of going forwards, or words to that effect, does it now mean that Sherwood didn’t? I can understand as to why Giddy, and Badger are hesitant in voting, but let’s face it, did you trust Sherwood in his job after balls up in player’s selection?.
I said straight away Sherwood would never sustain it it’s obvious. I think Remi will be good for us
Tom Fox “For the past year we have been working purposefully to transform the Club in order to build a successful organisation” yep and that is working fantastically well….. More PR bullsh1t, we have just got a manager that is inexperienced, a huge gamble… but cheap….. This club is a joke, and in 3 months time we will get the ‘clubs in transition crap” whilst being rooted to the bottom of the table.
Koeman was inexperienced look how well he’s doing with Saints. Premier league experience is overrated if you can manage you can manage anywhere the basics are the same. This guy kept Lyon in top 4 selling all his best players and working on a shoestring. He also won their equivalent of the FA cup. All this despite having to deal with PSV the French equivalent of man city He is also familiar with all our French players and is bilingual. Has a tactical brain also something we’ve never had at VP we have decent motivators who have s plan A and that’s it.
OohAh, I do believe that you’ve been carried away….
Lol
Nice to see you being positive for a change OohAh – I really hope you don’t live to regret your all out support for our new manger.
I’m all for giving him a chance and hope he’s a success both because we need it but also because I’m fed up with the smug self promoting opinions of the pundits – Mark Lawrenson in particular.
Yep I’m feeling positive Hitchens I think this app is best we could hope for.
Our bench tonight has our best players on it. Only Lescott out of our new signings playing – none of the French contingent – is McDonald deliberately being a twat?
No he is a twat anyway
Think he will be a good appointment. On the lineup today.. Wtf!! How Richardson gets in ahead of amavi?? And Westwood ahead of Gana??
Got a bad feeling about tonight & after reading the team it’s got even worse.
I think McDonald has simply looked at the entire squad and picked the team on those with the most games in the prem. nothing else.
Clark in, Gestede dropped. Not too bad.
Gabby in, well we knew that anyway.
It’s not far off what I expected.
hmm two left footed centre backs
What both CBs have got two left feet? 😉
Seems KMac doesn’t rate the new players either.
Interesting.
Or maybe he hasn’t got a fucking clue what to do with them. My god this is bullshit. We’ll either bore them to death, or get murdered, or just lose in the last minute.
Viva la revolution – good luck Remy – nothing of interest to see tonight. Gabby captain – standard.
KMac – boringly predictable I’m afraid. Looking at the team it’s park the bus, hoof the ball upfield and hope Sinclair or Shabby get lucky. Not going to be pretty to watch.
Maybe it’s KMac’s last two finger protest before he follows those who have gone before?
Think you’re right Hitchens. Its a protest at the clubs transfer policy. Probably had conversations with Sherwood across the season and looks like they both felt a bit that way. I expect the next lineup will go the other way.
Talkshite had a couple of journalists on tonight talking shite in support of Sherwood (he didn’t have a chance etc etc) – they’re obviously his buddies.
That said, they did describe Brad Guzan as the worst goalkeeper in the Premier League which I struggled to disagree with.
He’s certainly one of the weakest. I don’t feel any confidence looking at the two starting lineups
Welcome Remi. Wonder what he makes of Gabby. No matter what we think of him he always seems to find his way into the starting line up regardless of manager, and he has had a few !
Fuck there personal feelings on the clubs transfer policies there employed to do a job ie win games, not FUCKING lose them I’ve never heard anything more ridiculous.
