Aston Villa have been drawn against League one side Rotherham in the second round of the League Cup. Aston Villa were knocked out to League 2 side Bradford City in the semi-final. Hopefully, this year the team can do one better and reach the final of the League Cup, a competition which historically, the club has done rather well.
Rotherham and Aston Villa have faced each other in the League Cup previously. In 1961, the clubs played against each other in the final in the inaugural year of the League Cup. The final was two-legged and Aston Villa came out victories with a 3-2 aggregate score line.
The game will be played onĀ August 26, I expect Lambert to play a few youth players in that game as well.
With that being only 2 days after the Liverpool home game and 4 games from the 17th to the 26th, I can see a host of youth playing, though a few of the senior players will play as the next game won’t be till the 14th.
Yes, it’s going to be a very busy schedule, we can really set ourselves up for a strong showing if we can gain some points and proceed in the cup by then, UTV
Think you”ll find that Round 2 matches are scheduled for w/c 26th Aug, but they are usually played on Tuesday and Wednesday. We will probably go for Wed 28th and I expect us to play a strong team with a 3 week break coming up for internationals.
we cant be too complacent, Rotherham will no doubt be looking back to the Bradford games last season and be fancying a giant killing.
I don’t think villa will underestimate them and I expect to see a strong squad out with a couple or 3 players in to get 1st team games.
Is it August 26th – that’s a Mon matches are due to play W/C 26th.
