I detest the idea of weaker teams, especially this early in the season where surely players are still getting into their stride?
There can’t be any tiredness when most of the squad have had a month off, so I can only assume that Bruce simply doesn’t give a toss about the League Carabao cup.
It’s my firm belief that you should play every game to win and …….
I’m sure you know my views, so I’m not going to bore you with them.
So I prefer to think we’re just having a look at the younger members of the squad while still going all out to win the game.
Given that Easah Suliman, Jake Doyle-Hayes, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, Corey Blackett-Taylor and Harry McKirdy didn’t feature in the U-23s game against Norwich, you’d expect at least a few of them to feature tonight.
I very much doubt they’ll all get a shot, but if things are going well, why not?
And really you’d expect that things should be going well, given that Yeovil don’t seem to be setting league 2 alight.
But we don’t have a decent record in the cups recently, do we?
I really can’t see past a win here, but you never know.
Maybe Yeovil’s 8ft side to side sloping pitch might catch us out?
Nah!
3-1 to the Villa.
Yeovil haven’t played on that slopping pitch since 1990.
It seems to be almost expected that clubs in the Prem / Championship play ‘weakened’ sides in the cup competitions.
I don’t really have too much of a problem introducing a couple of the U23’s but isn’t it also a chance to give Nyland, McGinn and Tuanzebe more game time together with Grealish, Chester et al? After all it’s not that much different to a friendly with all due respect to Yeovil.
My sentiment Badger, once you don the colours you play to win, to me theres to much of this attitude its only a cup game. It’s nice to see the younge guns come in but not all at once. I wonder how many fans will travel to Yeovil with the, its only a cup game. Not many.
Don’t shoot me down 🙂 But imagine us playing our full first team and Grealish getting injured ??
I see the point Saddened, but that’s a chance you take in any game even training, you pay the money to see the game and expect to win.
We must play to win to help with the FFP burden. Let me explain. The more cup matches we win the more sales revenue generated, which should be profitable. I appreciate this will not solve the FFP issue, but every penny counts. It is also an opportunity for fringe players to make a mark and increase their value. For many they are unlikely to have a longer term future at the club. But if they can be sold in next two transfer windows at higher prices the better off for Villa.
I do expect us to win tonight and I hope any U23 players chosen excel. I’d much rather one of them given the chance to progress as a regular first team player than a loan player come in.
UTV
I don’t know if you all aware Villa under 23s won 2-0 to Norwich have to say a lot of them didn’t play the 3 team move in.so things are getting better.
Today’s game gives Bruce a chance to play U23s that are close to first team squad. It is about getting the balance right so kids learn from experienced pros alongside them. Against Peterborough we changed nearly all the team and it went pear shaped. I would imagine that there will be three youngsters at most to start the game and we should have enough to go through. Any chance of progression means more income for club which we can’t afford to ignore.
i agree with saddened we cant afford injuries to our best players. the league cup is not worth shit unless you reach the final. we have fans on this site wanting the kids to see more games. these are them games. players like suliman who are not ready for championship, need to show manager and us they can play first team, if we can play the youth and fringe players and go through rounds this will be beneficial to us,
saying that suliman isn’t even in the team or bench. rightly so i think he needs to go out on loan.
I think there is a good balance of youth and experience with an opportunity to strengthen things if not going to plan. Quite like the third kit. Looks better than the awful home shirt.
My missus agrees with you re the shirt.
Er, Yeovil looking the better side up to now.
Well I’ve tried to be patient but this performance is very poor so far
Yes we don’t appear to have a mid-field, everything’s going long which suits Yeovil.
We had a decent spell a few minutes back, but it seems to me we’re playing this like a friendly.
Nowhere near enough urgency for my liking.
Cracking effort from Green then.
Real distance shot.
Yeovil had the ball in the net, but it’s disallowed.
This defence worries me, as much as Tuanzebe looks decent.
Now we’re lucky with a refs decision – we look like kids against men upfront Too many changes
Did that guy for Yeovil who thought he’d scored do the ‘dickhead’ dance?
Come on Villa stuff them
Hepburn Murphy too small to lead the line; Adomah looks a shadow of the player from first half of last season. Yeovil deserve to be ahead.
Too much inexperience in Villa side and it shows.
Poor first half performance. Silly mistakes all over the pitch. Hourihane was most guilty player with sloppy play. Tuanzebe started slowly but improved as game went on and stopped a certain goal. How long does Bruce leave it before making changes. I can see Doyle Hayes coming off now he’s got a yellow card.
Is Adomah playing, from what I’m seeing hes not, we are lucky very lucky if fact Yeovil are better team , think if we win this pigs will fly.
Definite handball from a Hourihane effort then,
Equals the Yeovil disallowed goal for me.
Would have been a good save had he been the goalie. As it was a stonewall penalty
