Marc Albrighton has been recently named Aston Villa’s player of the month for his fine performances in December. Albrighton had just come back from a loan at Championship club Wigan but he managed to get straight into the first-team and has made several starts. Despite not scoring a single goal, or a obtaining a single assists; Albrighton’s general play style and constant attacking threat was enough to earn him the reward for this year. Obviously many fans pointed out that he was simply ‘the best of the bunch’ in what was a poor month for Aston Villa.
Despite our poor performances Albrighton has been a shining light in the Aston Villa midfield and has been really unlucky not to have a single assist on his name. It can be agreed that Albrighton is good at crossing the ball into the box and offers Aston Villa some genuine width. Against Sheffield United Albrighton was consistently creating decent crosses for Benteke. And this was only from a single highlights video.
Paul Lambert has a decision to make. Albrighton is entering his final few months of his current deal at Aston Villa and at the age of 24 he is soon entering his prime. Albrighton is regaining his match fitness and he isn’t too far from obtaining a similar form that saw the player dubbed as the future ‘David Beckham’. During this month the player may start speaking to other clubs in regards to a pre-contract. Albrighton is an Aston Villa fan for life and he loves playing for this club. He has graduated from the Villa youth academy and it’s fair to say he worked incredibly hard to establish a spot Villa’s starting 11.
Does he deserve a contract extension? In my opinion definitely. I’m a big fan of Albrighton because he offers the club width and has been more effective than Weimann, El Ahmadi and Tonev this season. You could argue he’s the best winger we have at this club. But does Lambert feel the same? Only time will tell. I don’t expect Lambert to offer anyone a new contract until the end of the season and because of this Albrighton will have to wait. He’ll be given some more time to impress and I reckon with a few goals and assists it’ll convince Lambert.
Yes, I like Albrighton who was ruined by McLeish, imo.
He does offer us something, so deserves another contract, but I think the big concern will be the wages. Iirc, he’s on around 25k a week, which I reckon someone will deem to be too much. This could prove to be a sticking point.
Badger i can’t see how 25k would be a problem unless that yankee tight fisted prick has lowered the cap even more mate.players will start borderlining champ salaries for their top players.peanuts & monkeys spring to mind.
Hopefully not, he’s been poor IMO, granted not as crap as the other useless turds in our squad, but still woeful. Runs around a lot and puts in a dreadful final ball, only reason people stick up for him is because he is a villa fan, which doesn’t wash with me as I couldn’t care less who the players support
Gotta agree, think the biggest reason he’s liked is he’s different to just about everyone we have. While I still believe Tonev can become good enough if he’s allowed to be an actual winger, and Bacuna is an actual winger who can play anywhere, Albrighton’s something different to everyone and that excites people, so they’re not gonna look down on him even though he’s nothing more than a good enough squad player at best.
A bit harsh belcs he’s not as bad as all that mate.atleast he wears the shirt with pride & puts the effort in remember this bloke has been pushed from pillar to post by different managers.i say give him a new contract.
Giddy let’s put it this way, the player has been run by idiotic managers, this one we have has only just found out how to use him, yes give him a contract he’s better than some tripe we have, I think he’s been used because he’s a Villa fan, and some Villa fans like him.
Bill he obviously won this award for a reason & it wasn’t for being a villa fan mate.if there was one for being shite fuck me que up lads.
Nope, he won it because he’s different and exciting. We don’t have someone who’s willing to take on players, despite having awful delivery for a winger, he’s not the usual cut in or already a central-esque player and that he tries, much like a few other players people rave on about.
Yes…new contract deffo!
Depends on how he maintains his form but considering some of the cheap shite we have at Villa at the moment he should get a new contract easy.Prepare to be underwhelmed by more Lambert poo signings
I think he may well get an extension. If he could keep up his current form then he deserves it, but he has been rubbish the last couple of years. Would like to see him and Bacuna battling out for RM position and Nzogbia/Ince on the left hand side. At least we would be supplying crosses for Benteke then.
Definitely get a new contract.
No chance, the 2 things a winger needs to have in their armour are a trick or seven (kick and rush don’t count) and a cross. He has neither!
He is a championship player at best!
are you kidding me? don’t know about tricks .. but Albrighton has always had a decent cross on him.. i have witnesses several good examples since he came back into the team. It takes two to make a cross work.
unfortunately he has had very little to aim at
I think he is worth another contract personally.
when he arrived in the first team under McLeish and big kev he was scoring and setting them up .. he has the technique.
but one, two, three, now a fourth manager and some extremely different styles and tactics later coupled with injuries and what some report as personal issues ..
he deserves it for me.
Off subject – just watching the news and they introduced a Thomas Hitzlsberger article and they called him the ex West Ham and Everton player…. He played less than 20 games between both clubs and over 100 at the Villa but we weren’t mentioned, I know there is a more important news message…. But makes my blood boil that Midlands clubs are ignored….!!!!
Prob as they are his most recent clubs. Though most of pics iv seen if him are in villa top
I hear what you’re saying Saddened, it makes my blood boil too. It’s as though in the media only London & north west clubs exist. I mean, a player from a Sky4 team only has to have a runny nose and it gets constantly repeated on SSN all night long. But, if there is an issue with a Villa player it may, if we are lucky, get mentioned once…at 2.30 in the morning!
Belcs, yes his final ball isn’t as good as it was, granted, but I’ve always maintained that he’s the best crosser of a ball on the run, that we have at the club. I still think that’s the case.
McLeish ruined him in making him track back too much, hence negating what he does best.
Lambert will do the same.
Giddy, we’re rumoured to have a 20k cap apart from exceptional circumstances.
I’m not convinced Marc will qualify, so I’m guessing he’ll have to take a pay cut or move on.
I live across the mersey and it makes my blood boil too,VILLA are a bit bigger than everton and miles bigger than west spam DER HAMMER is best known for his time with villa .North west clubs and london clubs always gret the headlines pisses me off.
think he should get a new contract because a) I think he will continue to improve especially with consistant game time and instruction, and b) he offers options we don’t otherwise have at the moment.
big room for improvement and I feel he will improve.
I’d give him a new contract, 2-3 years or so. He’s not great, shouldn’t be more than a squad player but we don’t have the creativity. Only real good thing about him is he’ll take a defender on, his final ball is shoddy though, Championship level at best there and needs massive work on.
Former villa player Thomas Hitzelsperger yesterday came out to the papers and said he is gay.
A statement from his family read “we are totally ashamed of Thomas, we had no idea he used to play for Villa.”
I take it BW S he was happy at Villa, 🙂 and can I add it wasn’t us that’s why he moved on.
Fair play to the lad for coming out.
Being in the dressing room in that testosterone fuelled environment with all those fit young men, it must have been hard?
Couldn’t have put it better, I bet it was very hard for him.
lol, brilliant bws! pmsl! 😀
Press reporting that Stoke have made Ireland move permanent (thanks). This gets rid of another big wage. Should give us a little more buying power When the fuck are we going to buy someone?
Mate im getting impatient aswell we’ve got a below par team atm & need an injection of fresh blood.all i can see is the usual promising div2 dross bought at the last minute.it fucks me off mate.
Like iv been saying all our links are complete bullshit. Hoolahan is the only one with any substance to it. Forget Lescott etc it ain’t happening.
Yes i do believe the hoolahan link will appear again this month.as for the money lerner will be dishing out fuck all to minimal at best.hard games coming up yet the problems not rectified.this is what nightmares are made of.
Out of all the links this is the only one that has a grain of truth to it. Forget players like Lescott dafour it ain’t happening. Edit Kendrick has written in NN that we are no longer Pershing dal four. There’s a surprise
Ooha ive read next week officials of villa & norwich are meeting over steer also hammering out a deal with hoolahan true or not somethings going on concerning him.
Coukd be Hoolahan I think will come here and he will do a decent job for a year or so but nothing spectacular.
Still no transfers
SSN reporting that Huddersfield are close to signing Wells from Bradford!
On another front villa os is offering all adult shirts for £25 deal. Desperation springs to mind as people have stopped buying them. On half a season to wear them anyway. Also if they can afford to sell for £25 then it proves how much the markup is on these shirts. Disgraceful IMO.
Yup thank god didn’t want another lower league smudger UTV
I’m sticking with my 1957 cup final replica shirt. Refuse to get ripped off every year!
Replica? Bet it’s is an original Langford.
Lol BWS…wish it was mate… I was only 6 when we pissed all over Manure….happy days.
Is your original shirt from 1897 league and cup double? 🙂
Yep and signed by Hughes, Matthews, Price and Scattergood.
OS…special Jan AVTV offer ‘be first on the scene for new signings’….. cant wait to see the new World Class signings on AVTV…..erm, erm!
