What Rumours Should We Believe?

As the transfer window closes in the next few days there will be a couple more rumours that will link Aston Villa with a wide variety of players. Lambert is still looking for players:

“There’s loads of names out there and players out there that we’ve looked at,” said Lambert.

“We’ll just have to keep on looking. We scour everywhere, Europe, everywhere. As I’ve said before the January window is a really tough window to do anything. But the two lads that have come in have been excellent for us.

“It is what it is at the minute. I’ve already brought in two lads, Grant Holt and Ryan Bertrand. The rest is what it was. We’ll see what happens.”

Asked if it was Hoolahan or nothing, Lambert replied: “You scour everything. Everywhere. But you can’t bring in someone from Europe and think it’s going to be a really quick fix. It doesn’t always work that way.”

Lambert admits his phone has been busy with agents touting players, adding: “It’s usual stuff, year in year out. It won’t change. Some of them are never realistic so you just put them to bed and go onto the realistic ones.”

With that said there are three types of rumours that Villa fans should ignore. Here is a list:

Any domestic loans:
There have been a few players in England linked with a loan move to Aston Villa, don’t believe them! The rules state that you can have two domestic loans at anytime. Lambert has already made those two loans, Holt and Bertrand. Villa can sign two more foreign loans but not domestic. This is the reason why Stoke signed Ireland permanently, so they could go and sign Gudietti on loan from Man. City

Strikers linked with a move to Villa:
I’ve seen a few of these, I’m not going to post any more striker rumours because Villa have plenty of forwards. Holt has come in to replace Kozak and it appears as Lambert may give Helenius more game time. We’ve recently been linked with Griffiths but that’s certainly not going happen.

Perhaps all of them?:
How many times has Lambert signed players that we’ve never heard of nor read about any rumours in the papers? The answer is very often, no one saw Bertrand moving to Villa nor Bacuna, Steer or El Ahmadi. It could very well be same with out next acquisition.

I reckon Lambert will bring in one more player. It’ll probably be on transfer deadline day. Lambert has never failed to produce on that day. He has signed someone last minute in the last three transfer windows he’s been here. Benteke and Westwood in 2012, Sylla in January of 2013, Kozak in the summer. Who will it be this season?

    1. Roaul Loe. Midfield.

  6. A good rumour is one I just saw on ?VT about the Dalian Wang Group and takeover …

    1. haha i read a little about this. this is the second time the Wang group has had to deny a football club takeover.
they have a team themselves in china and i beleive an article stated that they sponsor the chinese football league.
So .. richest man in china + football sponsorship = richest man in china likes to …owns a football club …. and pays!!! for football sponsorship!!!! .. wait finkle is einhorn .. einhorn IS FINKLE!!!

richest man in China wants to buy a football club in the premiership ..

      you read it here first

      1. I mean this to be the general journalism tradecraft deployed at your average tabloid newspaper.

but its weird .. its almost like they use social bots and just internet traffic diversion algorithms to write their stories

        1. I find it hilarious given what has happened down the road anyone would want Chinese taking over at Villa. their fortunes can disappear quickly if they get on the wrong side of the government and their economy is not stable.

However traditional Villa would appeal to the chinese who are into their history big time.

Would t like a Chinese owner can’t see them making us a success and fuck knows what they get up to. We need a Saudi or Russian. No more yanks ffs

Lol no offence meant. American owners don’t get the game imo and are only good at making money for themselves and won’t reinvest. Nothing against American supporters though 🙂
I was in New York in the summer and there were lots of american Chelsea supporters because they played there pre season. Says it all really.

        2. No more yanks, lest they be fans, right? 🙂

His statement is about as clear as mud as per normal, “The rest is what it was” ….. think i need a translator …..
But glad to see he pulled out one of his regulars though “the two lads that have come in have been excellent for us”

  8. we are now suppose to be in for plz norwich fans not but were after robert snogress
what do u think of that as he with delph in the leeds team a few years back

    1. Who’s he cover for holt?ffs it’s a joke if theres an ounce of truth in it.

    2. Norwich seem to have some of the better wingers in the league, Pilkington, Snodgrass, Redmond, Hoolahan. If it was true, doubt it is, but if it was, both him and Bertrand would make a strong Right side. Definitely has been their biggest threat in most of their games, including against Villa.

  9. I think you will find that Bertrand plays on the LEFT

  10. And Redmond a Blue nose, never did it for them, no, truth be known that’s it fuck all else at Villa Park you just see.

In this window i only want players who have or are playing in the Premiership, we need experience whether its young or old experience. We should no sign anyone from abroad who is not used to a) the culture b)the weather c)the premier league.

I hate cliche’s but we need players who are going to hit the ground running

  12. Haha shit… My bad. :/

    Meant Lowton.

I see Everton gave had their usual hammering at anfield. Lukaku will be out for sat can really see us beating them they are in a false position and will spiral downwards now

      1. Definitely possible, just hope it’s not one of those “they’ll take it out on us for what happened before”. Mirallas was their only good player so their moral’s down and they do have a few more injuries. If we beat West Bromich, I can see Villa having the confidence to beat Everton.

      2. #HELENIUS avatar
        #HELENIUS

False position??…?? Definitely not…!!! When they have a fit full side they are quality….. Howard, Alcaraz and Stones at the back were awful last night and Lukaku will be a big miss (although of late he’s been lazy and not scored in 9)

        1. Morgan Villa avatar
          Morgan Villa

Do you think Lukaku and Benteke share the same mojo, when one plays well the other does not

          1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
            OohAhPaulMcGrath

Benteke dosnt have to bother now lukaka a injured as will get into squad anyway

I’m still hoping for some talent from overseas that is completely under our radar. It would be nice to end the window on a high.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

I think wev had enough players from abroad that are so far under the radar their own clubs havnt heard of them either

      1. Hahaha, that actually made me laugh.

I do agree with him, don’t think there’s a DM in the EPL we could get that’s good enough so going abroad is our best chance.

      2. Oohah forget radar they’re using sonar mate.

      3. DSVilla avatar

Funny oohah but I was thinking about a Yohan Cabaye type. He was only 4 or 5 million. You would think Lerner could spot the attraction even just from a financial perspective. Wishful thinking I guess but you would think that must be within our means.

        1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
          OohAhPaulMcGrath

Lol there’s more chance of juggling soot than lambert getting a cabaye type player. More likely to get another tonev

I think these signings work better in the summer so a player has a whole season to settle, 3-5 months to settle into the football and the country is a lot to ask and could shatter a players confidence imo.

      LOL oohah

      1. That does make sense but to give a push, we need someone in midfield, not just a creative player, but a strong midfielder and I just can’t see anyone in the EPL that would join that can make that difference. Unless you know, Sylla’s finally going to be used as the DM he is.

Newcastle struggled to gel after January spend last season and nearly got relegated. I will admit Sissokho looks the part

The best rumour for me is we’ll get that over the hill mug from Norwich as a deadline signing, with nothing else.

Read between the lines, lads, in what Lambert’s saying; there’s nothing in the English game, because Lambert/Lerner has realised lower league shit just simply doesn’t cut the mustard in the Prem, straight from the off. They need nurturing.
And we won’t pay the wages that even lower league players expect with a move, anyway.

As for European players, they won’t get up to speed quick enough, as we saw with our best signing in Benteke.

The plus point here is, that whoever makes the decisions, might have actually seen the light, at long last!

The downside is, we might rely more on the academy players, which will prove to be yet another poor/cheap option.

    1M budget.. 25K wage cap..

Take your guess on how ‘special’ a No.10 can be on those pennies..

A takeover must be on the horizon or this is a complete joke..

Did anyone read Pl’s comments regarding Bertrand and his value and us being able to get him.. FFS don’t mug us fans off like we are a trampy club..!!!

    1. New documentary on 4, benefit club.

  17. Reading rags from the states, it seems a lot of stories bubble up based in mockery. Not just for villa, but anyone trying to compete without the excess.

Tough to ignore the “hot model wants you” article message when you know you’re probably going home alone. Keeping the faith though. The turn is coming, imo. Either up or into a brick wall.

Anyone else think Gabby could fill that 10 spot? Holds the ball well, pace, vision. I know he’s a wide guy, but really think he could be better in the middle. (and…time for another IPA)

  18. The rumour i have heard is that we will show no ambition in this window and that nobody with any premiership ability at all will be joining us. I have a feeling this is a rumour you can belive. Probably for the next 10 transfer windows aswell.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

I think it’s pretty obvious the club have no ambition other than to stay up. As we are virtually safe now then what’s the point in spending in any players. Lerners happy that Wev avoided relegation again on a shoe string. It will be exactly the same next season totally pointless

      1. saddened avatar

        Yep totally agreed oohah.
I got some bah bah bah bah sheep telling me I was wrong for saying all Lerner wants is survival on a shoe string with no cup runs (too expensive and an injury risk)…..I think this is how its going to be for a long time.

If we stay up this season, which we will, Lerner will be over the moon, hand Lambert a new contract, up the wage bill and buy some quality…….

L7 tonight, Row A at the very front. Never Sat there before, fancied a change, whats it like?? Also, i’m sick to death of these midweek games, having to take holiday each blinkin time!!!

Not far from me,its great especially when the whole of the holte is singing in unison. You have the guys at the top of the lower holte behind you singing throughout the game, I think the atmosphere will be great tonight.

I expect it to be a draw as the last 4 results reflect.

  20. #HELENIUS avatar
    #HELENIUS

I usually go upper Holte with my ol’ chap who’s a ST holder but fancy a change of scenery.

    Ye I think a draw 1-1

    1. My main gripe with the Lower Holte is halftime, don’t even bother trying to get a pint or a pie.

Close to the action obviously, but I prefer upper now to get a better strategic view.

It’ll be better than my ticket for Saturday where you have to guess where the ball will come back into view when kicked above head height lol !

Fancy four points from the next couple.

Its a pain in the arse the q’s are ridiculous

  21. Can someone explain why we are virtually safe? I see no evidence of this and a shock defeat tonight and a probable defeat against Everton on the weekend could put us in the bottom 3.. Maybe im looking at a different table to some of you?

    1. #HELENIUS avatar
      #HELENIUS

Because we are better than the sides below

    2. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Because we are 6 points clear with a superior gd so technically 7 points safe. Even if we lost next 2 games wed still be ok. Plus their are loads of teams below us who are crap

  22. iam buzzing still about the pool game ,cant wait 2 get them baggies 2nite ~ 4, 1 to villa
as for more signings i really think there won’t be any ~ if norwich do business with us i see hoolahan joining, but snograss wants out aswell so that might damage hoolahan chance of leaving

can anybody answer this WERE is charlie insomnia, i was under the impression he was injured ~ but no news ever comes out of the club about his progress please update me
