talk of Matthew Lowton joining burnley for £1m . that has to be a joke. he has to be worth more than that. villa should tell burnley to feck off and keep him as a back up if thats all we can get for him.

Lowton could go up to 2m after bonuses. So 5m between Lowton and Weimann give or take? Why we’re allowing us to get low-balled for players I don’t know, unless its just to get rid of players Sherwood doesn’t want and money in doesn’t matter.

        Means nothing, imo.

If Sterling is worth £50 mill, Benteke should not be priced at £32.5 mill.
Especially when the former is still a daft kid.

The question for me is, who do we reckon will be the better player in say, 3 years time?
I know where my money is.

Sterling, 18 in 91 apps (wiki) partly with one of the best players in the world.
Benteke 42 in 88 apps (wiki) in a shit team.

It’s a no brainer, imo, but of course depends what you actually want the player for.

        Biased?
        Absolutely 🙂
Benteke will prove world class and can already do it without other top players to back him up/aid him, imo

No argument Badger. But remember that Sterling is English, which adds what – at least £10m? – to his price as far as Mancs or L’pool are concerned.

More or less go for whatever the team’s willing to sell a player for actually, not what another team bids. Bids get rejected all the time (see Sterling). Fans of other clubs have been baulking at Benteke’s buyout clause since it got announced claiming that’s about 10m more than what he’s worth.

Probably right to be fair. Benteke is hot and cold. Spends half a season injured, quarter of a season not doing much, then a purple patch. He is not prolific enough for big clubs. Having said that I would say he is in a par with Bony and city paid £35m for him so £32.5 is about right. Knowing us though we will sell him for less because we are stupid!

Just goes to show how stupid the people who use twitter are badger! How the hell can 95% of villa fans be happy with what we’ve witnessed over the last 4 years? I’m optimistic about next season but can I say I’m happy with how things are now? Not a hope! We are about to lose our only class player, we have an injury prone back line and just signed an injury prone RB to supposedly play at CB and we need a LB, CM, RW, LW, ST, CB, and another RB if Richards is gonna be CB! That’s a lot of players needed although we already hav a player who can play as a RW or LW in gil but sherwood seems to wanna do the martin o Neill style transfers with English brute on high wages instead of skill and flair with low wages which gil is on and looks a fucking bargain! We are going round and round in circles and heading nowhere at the moment I’m afraid.

have to agree with you about gill. why get rid of him and buy another winger like Andros Townsend who will demand much higher wages . we don’t have money to burn and getting our defence sorted must be the priority . how much will spurs want for townsend , silly money i’m guessing .

Brum Mail are clueless then. He’s missed around 5 games due to injury in the last 2 seasons. Sole reason he hasn’t made an impact is because he’s not good enough for a Scudetto challenging side and he’s 4th choice there. In fact the only reason he played as much as he did this season is Barzagli was out injured for a majority of the season.

And yes, it’s time to chill, never witnessed someone emphasize the word fuck so much in my life.

I would rest your case there.
I came across his stats on who scored. He made the Italian team of the year with great pass rate. 10 goals and 10assists this season. He is six foot two which is something I think our midfield needs. We always are second best when balls in the air. He strikes me as a taller and im assuming stronger version of Gil. Maybe with a little more experience in his locker.
I then read up a little more on hima diced I should look on YouTube,
I don’t claim to be a pro and of course I would expect a lot more scouting to happen before we simply go sign a player but he just strikes me as something we could domw th in midfield.

Sevilla also have a lot less funds than we do, they make less than any team in the premier league but consistently buy bargain players and sell big to stay afloat.

Ramos, Keita, Alves, Adriano, Renato, Reyes, Navas, Negredo, Moreno, Rakitic, Konodgbia, Vidal to name some of the big names they have lost over the past 10 years.. at a total cost to them of no more than £15m and sales of £230m.

It is a club to take notes from as they play in Europe every year bar one, including a couple of champions league campaigns. So of course it’s possible to achieve something great with what we have, but we have been far too stupid for far too long.

Ah you miss understand. A selling club is a club that sells its best players and never replaces them with similar players. If we sold benteke and reinvested on another good striker IV no problem with that but we don’t we will sell him for £30 and put a £5m replacement. Lerner will pocket the 25m difference.

Said it before, but I believe Benteke would need a full season at his best, without any serious injury lay-off’s, before any of those who could afford him would sensibly risk £32m or more on him. So I reckon he’ll still be at VP when the season starts.

I know you have your Rooney’s etc, but it’s rare.

I’m not even sure how a kid of that age or even his agent/advisor would think when you have clubs chasing you, so perhaps it boils down to the money or just the current status of the club?

I’m already slightly worried about Sherwoods transfer policy. I just hope it is all tabloid rumour and nothing else. Because what I have seen/read so far reminds me of the MON era, bringing in average English players for super inflated prices with little to no sell on value.

Townsend, Huddlestone et al, no thanks Tim. Specially as we already have players like Gil who look 10x better than these players who cost 5 times less. Who appear to be ready to be shipped out without being given a chance.

Richards is a good signing but wouldn’t have been if we’d paid a fee for him, because he beeds a season to prove himself first.

Townsend would be Ok at the right price. Huddleston? Not even on a free thanks. Gil leaving is a shame, but that seems to happen whenever a new manager takes over anywhere. Some players just get frozen out.

As usual there are some intriguing names getting thrown around. i guess we need to be realistic though, and without a change of owner and a real statement of intent you have to wonder who we can attract.
