Yes he certainly put the effort in unfortunately sometimes to no avail,I still wish him the best possibly he’ll be playing at the right level now.

“I do believe that Weimann is a Championship level player at this stage of his career…” – agree completely, and wish him all the best at Derby.

Unfortunately we do have a habit of keeeping ‘might-have-been-great’ youngsters too long after it becomes obvious to outsiders that they just aren’t up to their inital promise, and not quite good enough for the top level.

To me a player that had bad luck in managers, I liked Andi thought he had a future with Villa, just hope he don’t come back to haunt us, he was one of the promising young lads in Villa’s youth team, but used to play in wrong positions. Good luck to you.

Agree really thought he would be the next Gary Shaw a lot of similarities. I think we should of given him one more season but what do I know

My memory might be a bit hazy as you’re taliking about 30 years ago, but wasn’t Shaw just 18 or 19 when he came into the side and started scoring at the rate of a goal every other game?

Weimann will be 24 before next season starts, so he’s left it a bt late; don’t reckon another season would make any difference.

True but I thought when AW was younger he showed all the signs and was similar to Shaw in the way he played. If you look at how AW played under Lamberk in first season when he was part of that move when he bk heeled it for CB to score he had class written all over him. It proves he has ability but has just stalled. Wish him the best at Derby unless they play us of course 🙂

Bent and Weimann up front for Derby….that could be pretty useful for a Championship club. Worth betting a tenner for automatic promotion!

Thanks for all your effort Andi…a good, honest, 100% professional constantly played in the wrong position by Lambert.

Thanks and good luck at Derby!

    Confirmed as a done deal.

I think that’ll prove cheap, fwiw.

      Maybe.
But the gap between the Prem and Championship is wide and not getting any narrower.

I just think that if we had real ‘gems’ anywhere from the youth set-up into the first-team, other clubs [Sky 4 or 5] would come in for them sooner and in a big way – probably before they were 20.

With the exception of Cahill to Chelsea, how many of the ‘promising’ home-grown players who have left VP have actually made it big, or made us all think we sold them too cheap/too soon?

Should of played him in his proper position, maybe he’d of fulfilled his potential instead of being made to play out wide and ruining him. The times he did play down the middle he done well imo.

Think Derby have got a good deal for the reported fee.

I hope he does well at Derby and wish him all the best in his career.

Good luck to him, a lot of huff and puff but too many times left wanting with poor and product. Not clinical enough but think he will stand out in the championship, gives possession away cheap and cost is a few goals, anyway hope it all goes well for him!

On his current form Weimann is worth that fee, but I just hope the club was wise enough to take a percentage of the next sale because he’ll do great for Derby. Always had an eye for goal but never first choice, hopefully he can get his chance next season.

I think Weimann will be the next Danny Ings type player if played up front. Definitely would have had an eye for goal if he’d been given a proper run upfront in a team creating chances

Glad he has left to be honest. We shouldn’t hold on to players for too long if it’s clear they aren’t good enough. Always tried hard but has moved to his rightful level. Wish him all the best though he’s a top pro. Excited now as a forward will most likely be brought in. Hopefully someone bids for gabby!

Ardent, I don’t think Weimann is by any means top 4 material, but he’s worth a fair bit more than sub £3 mill, imo.

Adam, it amazes me how Gabby hasn’t been the first gone.
I have to wonder what he had on Lambert or Lerner to justify his latest contract, when he hasn’t performed for ages.
No one will bid for him and we’re stuck with him because of the stupid wages he’s on.
A crazy bit of business during a period of austerity, it seems to me.

There’s a lot to like about players like Weimann: decent footballer, excellent pro, not known to complain about anything, keeps himself out of the tabloids, not covered in tattoo’s, etc.!!

However, the point I was trying to make is that however much we think they might be worth, the rest of the football world hasn’t been sniffing around for years trying to sign these players from Villa for tens of £millions.

If any of the ‘top’ clubs thought that Weimann had a potential star-quality that succesive Villa managers had overlooked/mis-used [as per some of the comments on here] I’m pretty sure that one of them would have come and nabbed him well before now.

As it is, yes, Derby may have gotten a bargain – a decent player with premiership and international experience for a few million – and he’ll probably do very well in the Championship for them; however unless Villa had somehow turned down offers of £10m for him from somewhere else, then £2.5m is exactly what he’s worth..

As with Gaby, in the Premier League just being a ‘decent’ footballer really isn’t quite good-enough!

        Fair points, I guess.
How much did Kozak cost? Around £6 mill, from a quick glance on the net.
Or Andi at less than £3 mill and three years younger?

As many have said, play him in the right place and i reckon he’d score.

That said, Lambert has ruined him and it’s probably best that he leaves, as it seems Sherwood just doesn’t want him.

I sometimes think the managers/chairman think that keeping Gabby makes us happy as fans, him being a local lad etc but they’re so wrong. Apart from a couple of games a season he is a total waste of space in the team.

    Agreed.
I do like him and the fact that he’s local (he was in the same year at the same school as my daughter), but as you suggest, you still have to perform.

Knew this was coming. I think it’s good to give the lad a chance somewhere else. He wasn’t going to get it under Sherwood. I liked Weimann, great team man and great work ethic. Unfortunately it didn’t work for him with us for varying reasons. He will do well for Derby and he will be playing with them in the premier league next year.

    Good luck Andy.

Liked his work rate and attitude, and he did well to come back from injury so well.

Let’s be honest, if we had Bent & Weimann upfront next season, most of you lot would be saying we’re definintely down.

Like Albrighton, he’ll do ok but I can’t see us regretting the decision.

Don’t think that applies to me Vaze, Both players was hard done by in their time at Villa, I said it in my post Weimann, out of position, Bent never had the right players to play his stile, yes you watch Derby this season.

Fraco vazquez would be a nice target.
    10 goals and 10 assists.
Our squad is crying out for a creative and goalscoring mid.

Andi had to go and he will do so with a round of applause from us. Always committed.
His best momments for me where the brace against united and the header against fulham which pretty much secured safety that season.
I fully back Sherwood with what he is doing and agree certain players have just lost to many games in a villa shirt. Its best for player and club to move in from these times.
Micah Richards is a great signing and the guys who have been negative about Micah would only have winged if he went elsewhere and seen as a missed opportunity.
Thought delph looked good fir England at weekend and should be played in a similar fashion at villa. He was good back up for left back, sat back abit and went toward accasionally when time was right.
He certainly had the left centre mid covered well. What we must not do is ask much more if him just because he has abit more about him than other players.
