Villa – Wycombe; and general thoughts

Try as I might, I’m struggling to keep my interest in the FA cup alive at the moment, as much as I appreciate it for what it is.
The sad fact is it is of no real interest to me now, as even if we were to win it, it would pale into insignificance if we were to be relegated, so powerful is the pull of the Premier league these days.

And that’s a view that I somewhat despise myself for, as an eighth FA cup win has always been amongst my dreams as the only thing I’ve never seen the club win in my lifetime.

That’s what it’s down to though and as much as I admired the point against Leicester, a game where I thought we deserved all three points, I’m now seriously beginning to accept the fact that we’re down.
Similar to all season, we’ve had no luck whatsoever and all the relegation contenders aren’t losing in the way we would want.
It’s so sad to say, but I think we’re now beyond hope of surviving.
We just don’t have the time.

On a brighter note and sticking with the FA cup, then; as I hinted, I strongly believe in what it is and what it does.
Regardless of my somewhat bleak mood, it’s superb for the smaller clubs.
I’ll bet Gareth Ainsworth, the Wycombe manager, was well chuffed when his side managed to bring us back to Villa park.
They had a full house at their ground and couple that with a nice six figure sum from this fixture, hopefully they’re keeping the wolf from the door for another season at least.

Let’s not forget lads; as much as things are currently bleak for us, so they’re a lot worse for clubs lower down the leagues and anything that gives a club a serious injection of cash, has to be a good thing.

Onto an even brighter note, I now expect us to have enough about us to win this game, as long as Remi doesn’t mess it up by changing it about too much.
We can’t afford any complacency, but should be able to give Richards, Clark and perhaps a couple of others a run out.

I’d seriously expect Gabby to start from a purely footballing point of view and if he doesn’t, well, my guess is he’ll never wear the Claret and Blue again, regardless of if he gets a loan/transfer in what remains of the window or not.
Reading between the lines, I’m not convinced he’ll start.
Which will only back up what I’ve thought for a fair while; he’s got ideas above his station and being “Mr Aston Villa” isn’t going to save him.
So watch him start then.
Or maybe not, as Barry Norman (aimed at the old timers amongst us, sorry) would have said.

Prediction time and it’s a brief 2-1 to us.
No particular reason, apart from I just feel it in my water.
It’s a rubbish reason, I know, but let’s face it, I’m on a roll, where I actually predicted the Leicester game correctly; a first this season, I think.

Hey, there’s a big plus in that, in that I’m predicting we’ll score 2!!!!

I’ve been strapped for time, which slightly explains why I didn’t post a review of Saturday’s game, but I thought while I’ve got a chance, I might as well give my opinion of what’s going on in the transfer window.
Well, it doesn’t take much working out does it?

We’re not getting anyone in, is basically the simple way to say it.
I think we all knew it really and the stories about Garde supposedly demanding funds for players who might save us are simply total sphericals.
Yes, some sources might link us with supposed top players, but they’re not realistic are they?

I’d maybe expect the odd £5 mill or so for Remi to splash out with, but the big emphasis is now undoubtedly “take them off our hands, PLEASE!”

Who’d entertain Gabby at around £65k a week?

See, I knew I’d make you laugh at the end of this post.

A win.
You heard it here first, remember.

    1. Wycombe – sorry to say is a bit of a non event given the draw for the next round. I say give some of the kids a run out – a loss in these circumstances doesn’t affect the morale – or maybe less so but a win for a young team?

Onto transfers – agree with everything you say Badger. It would seem we are having difficulty even attracting loan deals to the end of the season. Players know what is going on in clubs and we are poisonous at the moment so I will be surprised if any player currently with a PL team would even consider joining us.

Pretty clear we are starting a clear out if the higher earners – I expect Shabby, Senderdoss, Lescott, N’Zog and possibly a couple more to go with lower league or overseas players of dubious quality but cheap to come in. Hey ho – now where is my road atlas!

      1. Yep, we’re going to see a clear-out.
But who’d take some of these jokers?

        Gabby rumoured for places, Why?
He’s done nothing for yonks and it’s balls, imo.

N’Zog has hardly kicked a ball in how long?

I suspect we’re lumbered and will have to pay them all off (the above two are only the tip of the iceberg, imo)
Players who simply think they’re better than what we are and deserve better, but have contributed nothing.

It’s now beginning to dawn on me more and more that someone, somewhere, must have seen this coming.
And any warnings have been quite simply ignored.

I’ve been quite loathe to agree up to now, but I’m coming round to saying the club has to be rotten to the core.

  1. Give the bench/youngsters a game and let our better players have a good rest from last weeks fixtures.

  2. Have we had a transfer embargo slapped on us?? Because there’s FUCKall transfer action going on at the club we’re 2 thirds through the window & sodall.

    1. Same old scenario Giddy, this club is so arrogant and niave, they act like they are Real madrid…. Muppets!

      1. Given the current state of affairs it is unlikely we will attract anyone of quality. Let’s face it, anyone who comes would be here for the money, not the job prospects, and I think we have enough of those. I can’t see any prospect of us staying up so maybe it is best to regroup in the summer and spend then to get out of the Championship. Frustrating though.

    2. No point in buying anyone no one will make much difference now. Debuchy would help balance us s bit better that’s about it

  3. Surely time to give some of the younger generation a run out. Sellars, kinsella, abdo, Hepburn-Murphy see if they play well.

  4. According to press reports Bennett being loaned to Sheffield Wednesday to end of season and Swansea still keen on Sinclair.

    1. Sky Sports reported Bennett to Wednesday, was reading that about Sinclair . On tonight’s game we should win , I don’t think the team wants another reaction from the fans after the last episode.

  5. Yes we will win today in the FA cup and beat the baggies in the league but unfortunately it doesn’t really matter as we are 10 points adrift with 16 to go we have no chance of stopping up shit really UTV

  6. villa have had a bid accepted for Lovre Kalinic.

anybody know where i can get a link for tonight’s game

          1. Good point BWS, How about I send my misses round, you can chat to her for the evening to give me some peace. 🙂

        1. Bill pay for TV? Heaven forbid mate but I do need to get me one of those Kodi android boxes or amazon stick.
I think it’s on BT anyway Bill.

        1. No worries Nath. It weren’t showing as on when I looked earlier but it is on there now. I’ll take my apology back. 😉

    1. Err – I’ve just seen that Giddy. Suspect we’re playing three at the back with Richards at RB and 5 in midfield? But I know nothing about complex football formations 🙂

      1. Or perhaps Sanchez is playing CB or there again perhaps Remi is still ‘punishing’ Grealish. – ‘for your sins and failure to track back tonight you will play right back’ in a ‘allo allo’ accent!

  7. These lads that have been brought in to play tonight should be sold asap. They have no future here at all. Even Grealish needs to at least go out on loan.

    1. Like Sherwood said there’s players here that just want to sit on their contracts and take the money. Even the Villa fans are laughing at them.

      1. Liverpool away but lost 4.2 our biggest win of the season 2,0 v Wycombe says it all

  8. just seen the goal on tv. decent cross and we had men in the box. duh. the play is too negative and safe a lot of the time. i know confidence is low but we will not win games by playing negatively. man city would destroy us and you can just see us rolling over – again. when will we get a manager and team that really tries to take the game to the opposition? lower league teams always give it a go as they have nothing to lose. i wish we could get some of that mentality.

  9. Sounds like we were awful but a win is a win and just think – more money in Randy’s pocket!

    1. It keeps momentum going I guess tonight was a freebie weekend game us what matters. Did grealish play right bk if so why?
