Villa sign Carles Gil according to Sky sports Spanish expert.

So, it would appear we’ve signed the attacking midfielder that Lambert said he wanted to get in before the Liverpool game.
He’s from Valencia, he’s aged 22 and has apparently signed a five year contract, with the fee being around four million euros.

The only concern for me is that he struggled to get back in the Valencia side after being out on loan at Elche (Sanchez’s previous club).
It strikes me that given the low price, it’s possibly just another punt, but if he turns out to be as good as Sanchez, it’ll be a case of fair play to Lambert.
That said, I can hardly see him being worse than Cleverley or Richardson, can you?

This is definitely a position that needed sorting and I hope this player is the answer.

So, if the story proves to be true, I’d like to say “Welcome, Carles”.

  1. Allegedly this has happened before between agents and Villa – Cleverley comes to mind and I believe there was another instance as well. Now I’m no fan of agents as most are just greedy and more interested in themselves than their player but could this be Villa trying to turn the screw?

  2. I hope it’s a large amount we’re quibbling over & not a small one.cus I feel we need this type of player & it would piss me off if the deal goes pearshaped.

  3. “Medical passed and he’ll play against Liverpool, Aston Villa need not worry over Gil”

“Anyway, Super Deporte say that Gil has now passed his Aston Villa medical and is expected to be a part of their squad for the Premier League match against Liverpool on Saturday. It’s claimed that on Tuesday afternoon, Gil will train with the team and there are no hints of problems still remaining. Super deporte have said they have been assured the deal is set to close, if it hasn’t been closed already. ”

    1. And from Gil himself

“It’s a very important opportunity, because they are a very strong team who counted on me, an important club in England. I’m raring to go there and do well.”

  4. deals done 🙂 yeah i was just starting to wworry 🙁 thanxs for posting the latest guys now we need another, any ideas who that could be and will lerner be as willing

  5. Now he’s in Lambert absolutely has to play him straight away. None of this “he needs time to adjust”

It cannot get any worse so just play the lad

    Lambert out

  6. Like Albrighton, Weimann, Gabby, Lowton, Tonev, Bacuna etc etc Lambert will no doubt destroy the lad. From what i have seen of him he is a quality player but for me, he’s made a huge mistake coming to us at this moment in time. Best thing that could happen to him is Lambert gets sacked. Hope i’m wrong.

    Welcome to AVFC Carles.

    LAMBERT OUT!!!

  7. Most entertaining thing is the media seems to think Gil’s replacing Delph in the Villa squad, when they’re two completely different players. Although if we somehow got 7.5m for Delph, that would be incredible.

    1. very true but my mate reckons delph is on his way to pool. i also feel he will hes on his way. but pool sound desperate, so hopefully we get a good deal.

      1. Oh I agree he’s off, but Gil certainly wouldn’t be a replacement, we were going to get him anyways. We do need another midfielder then though, as depth would be down to Cleverley, Westwood and Sanchez.

        1. oh no gils not replacing delph,, but the three central mids, i don’t think you can play westy sanchez with cleverley… this has to change. any thoughts on who might we go for nxt???

          1. No idea with Lambert anymore. I never expected us to go for Gil. Although I should expect someone like Gil. We’re linked to the usual players the bottom half of the table clubs are usually linked with, and then we get someone from outside the norm. Hoping a winger myself. Possibly another striker as I’m not quite sure how Kozak is going to come back after his injury, then his set back.

          2. apparently we are one of the 2 premiership clubs after morrision from hammers and lazio, also theirs talk about Januzaj we are 5,2 favs to land him so looks like the player types are very creative, i can’t understand why they don’t return cleverley . kojak is back soon, but your right he will not be ready 100%, maybe until next season.

          3. Morrison doesn’t seem like a Lambert type player, bad attitude and all, but then again with the amount of sending offs we’re getting as of late, he might just be.

I’d return Cleverley for Januzaj but then a midfielder is an absolute must.

We need a quick striker type, kind of like Gabby 5-6 years ago with Carew to play off Benteke. As I don’t expect while Carles Gil can play as a support striker, he won’t be.

      2. They must be desperate if they want him. Can’t see scousers being happy with Delph

        1. if we got 10 mill or even 7 mill i would sell delph, but if we were a premiership club for real theres no way we sell a player like delph. but this is the depths we have sunk innit,

every penny counts or dimes lerner the penny pincher

          1. andrew iam totally with you on the Januzaj , i seen alot of him and hes raw again, but much further down the finishing school than grealish. hes like young as hes a diver but hes class apart. would be a top loan no way would utd sell him

but hes out of favor because the syatem utd play which is the same one we do, but he could easy play the weiman or gabby role not the wing back one

            1. Iv no problem with januzai he’s a good player but he will stay with us long term so pointless. Lambert being able to sign players sends a loud message that he’s staying no matter what

  8. Although it only clips and not much to go by, but this Carles Gil doesn’t really excite me.

A collection of Gabbys best bits would make for more entertainment than this lads….and we know how shit he is…..!!

I’m far from writing him off before he’s kicked a ball (kind of oohahh-esque) and I hope he’s awesome but there’s a niggling doubt I can’t shake.

  9. FA couldn’t organise a pi** up in a brewery. Another ref another day (or if we were one of the ‘chosen few’) at least two of those reds (excluding Gabby) wouldn’t have been given and Benteke’s red was for a powder puff reaction. On the other hand, the guy that puts Westy out for a month with an off the floor scissors tackle gets a yellow? No consistency in refereeing which overall IMHO is sh* te.
