Villa – QPR; I just don’t see this game happening, but here goes

I drove home from Derby, down the A38 at around 5.30 and the road was fine.
There’s been on and off snow for the last three days, yet the road was fine to drive down and I was doing the speed limit.

Last night and tonight, as soon as I hit Bassett’s pole island, so it all goes awry and it’s taken me nearly an hour to do the last 3 miles.
I really wonder what Birmingham Council puts in their grit, but I doubt it’s anything that actually melts the snow.
I also wonder if they’ve gritted at all, to be honest and no doubt they’ll have some excuse.

Whatever, the roads in Birmingham are simply horrendous, even while the snow is still falling.

The club have said the game will happen, but I doubt they’ve allowed for what’s happened and they won’t be able to guarantee the fan’s safety as they make their way to the ground.
Hence I reckon it’s going to be called off.

If I’m right, it’ll be a shame, as this should be a reasonably easy 3 points.
Well ok, not easy; as I don’t think any championship game is easy, but surely about as easy as it gets, on paper?

I’ve just (stupidly) walked the dog and I’m frozen stiff and want to get to bed, hence I’m cutting to the quick.

If it happens, it’s got to be a win.
2-1 to us.

Match postponed. This gives Grealish and others the chance to be fit. A blessing in disguise I believe.

If we had to have a postponement and an extra game to play later it could be worse than QPR at home. Also as Nath said it will give our injured players a little more time to recover as well.

    Here’s hoping for a Derby-Fulham draw today

Fulham winning again, been saying for weeks second is theirs to lose. Come May we’ll look back at that loss at Craven Cottage as a defining moment in our failure to get automatic promotion.

I’d happily draw them. Feck ’em! They can build a big Aldi on the site of The Sty. Apparently Gary Rowlett’s name is in the frame. He’d have to be mental!!!!

our rivals are having a mare (understatement) but we shouldn’t gloat until we achieve our objectives. there are lessons to be learned from our own fall and their fall our the baggies/ birmingham.

baggies had established themselves as a premiership club for a good few years. top ten too. but their fans wanted better football. was this the beginning of their nightmare. sacking pulis was a massive error, which they couldn’t cope with. clubs the size of baggies cant attract the players other clubs in premiership could. playing more open and abandoning the style which won many free points was a disastrous decision.

same can be said about bluenoses, the fans didn’t want to lose rowett. he had proved to them, he had the club moving in the right direction. but new ownership or something they sacked the man that had changed the club without much money. then they hired and sacked too many managers over the next 18 months.now look at them

we suffered with too many managers during our swift fall from grace, we fans have to learn patience, sacking managers just causes chaos and a massive loss of money to compensation. we also need to learn the lesson about over spending on wages, players given high wages and long contracts, that are undeserving, example richards. i liked the bloke when he was a city. but who ever negotiated his contract for us needs shooting. makes me wonder how he passed a medical with the amount of games he has played over 3 seasons,

the future is in our youth, we need to find a solution to readying them, so they are more able to make the step up and in greater numbers. the less we need to gamble on signing players to brining our own through. the better for our club it will be. i do think the club is soundly run now. bruce might not be the long future, but he has built a good foundation for our future.

Nicely said Nath, I have to be honest I’m not a person that gloats over someone else’s problems, Birmingham ,Albion are midland clubs and to see them going tits up is not good for the Midlands., playing clubs like them draw big crowds ,the banter good to have and makes fans more eager to support your own teams.treating them as a enemy is not my thinking, you wouldn’t say that fighting for your country. I just hope that after the pain we went through they sort themselves out, think of it Manchester have two teams doing well, London have 4-5 doing well we don’t Liverpool and Everton, is another drawing good crowds, I just hope that my city draws money and don’t lose it to Manchester that’s trying to get second city status.

i have to be honest i too don’t get any pleasure from them struggling. but can see why we should gloat. after the shit their fans gave us. but you have pointed out. midlands as the area should have more clubs in premiership. its good business for the area, rivalries improve clubs. manchester clubs have never been hated rivals. utd save their hate for pool. but things have changed as city took utd crown. pool and everton are same they are rivals but they never hated each over. they have many families blue and red.

i hope villa and wolves go up and together they will push each other to be top dog and both will survive. everybody is worrying about fulham. but the team you should worry about is cardiff first. if they continue as they have they will not implode. as many predicted. fulham have come good but it will be too much too late i reckon. they will then be a massive threat for the playoffs

Nath, Bill, I have some sympathy for the fans of any football club going through the torment that bad ownership brings, whether it’s Blues, Baggies or teams like Portsmouth and Sunderland. My greatest fear is a repeat of Lernerism as, it seems, so many clubs stand on the cusp of disaster these days – an imbalance brought about by too much TV money and risk of short term foreign investment. It remains to be seen whether Chinese investment will turn out to be as ‘hit and miss’ as American money.

Having said that, Blues are the architects of their own doom as you have both pointed out and I have no sympathy with owners who want to feed their own ego. Many of us said on here that sacking Rowett would be a disaster and so it’s proved to be.

Final word; name in the frame – Gary Monk – what’s the betting he’s appointed this week. Another aspect of modern football ownership I dislike – setting up a new manager before the incumbent is sacked.

i must be the only villa fan that doesnt study the league table after every second a ball is kicked. but cardiff have second spot and they are in control of their own destiny. fulham can will all of their games and still finish 3 rd or 4th. cardiff have been top two all season, its wishful thinking that they will go away, just because other teams below them start winning.

i fancy the play offs too. would be a fitting end to the championship season winning at wembley. getting promoted with the last kick of the ball.

i recall last time we were in this division under taylor. millwall walked away with the league and villa struggled to claim 2nd back then. with the results going our way and a nil nil draw away at swindon

sorry it was 3rd back then. in them days no playoffs. top three got promoted. we were joint second 3rd on goal difference. but 4th and 5th were only one point away. so we had to win last game and hope others didn’t better our result. we only got a ni nil. it was the days of radios whats the scores elsewhere.

I was at that game, I was in control of our stewards, was it Middlebough they lost on that day and we was promoted? , I heard the crowd murmuring about the score I ran down the tunnel into the dressing room shouted we are promoted, the whole team ran onto the pitch in jubilation. Happy days.

didn’t middlesbrough finish 2nd we finished third millwall 1st. i think bradford missed out. we beat them last home game. i just remember listening to the radio as we were drawing. lol was really nervous.

we were easily one of the best teams in that division. but it went all the way down to the last game. to the last kick it could have all been very different. two years further we finished runner up to pool in top division.

A interesting bit of new just emerging on fair play, A host of Championship clubs want football’s authorities to launch an investigation into Wolves’ financial affairs.

The clubs have told the Football League and the FA to look into what they perceive as being foul play by the Molineux club, reports the Sunday People.

Wolves are clear at the top of the Championship after a successful tie-up with super-agent Jorge Mendes which has seen some of Europe’s best young talents heading to the club.

But their Championship rivals want answers – and are growing more vocal in their demands ahead of a Football League meeting next week

Tomorrow night’s game will give us an idea how we will cope with the pressure on the run in. This is a must win game – we can’t afford to drop points against teams at the wrong end of the table – particularly with Cardiff / Fulham looking strong.

On the Wolves story; I wouldn’t hold your breath.
