Every man and his dog knows about our shocking record against Man Utd. I think I’m correct in
saying it’s the worst record of any team in the history of the premier league.
So normally I’d be expecting yet another loss to continue the almost tradition that it’s been.
For a change though, I’m actually looking forward to this one and fully expect to beat them. I might be biting off more than I can chew in saying this, but even if they get lucky as they often have done over the years, I think we have shown the resilliance lately to overcome anything they can throw at us. Which I think is not that much really. Like most teams in the Prem, they really don’t look very good to me.
That’s not to say they don’t have the tools to hurt us though; they do.
And we’re not without what I think are weaknesses. But we’re quite simply a better team and should have enough. After all, we’re not breathing down the leader’s necks, with the best current form, for nothing.
Team news and the main story is that although Emi Martinez was supposed to be borderline for last week’s game, his position is still the same and it’s going to be another last minute decision. Something’s not right here to my mind. Given that we have a decent stand-in in Bizot, why not just leave the Argentinian out and let him heal properly? If he is genuinely borderline, it doesn’t make sense for him to be playing if he’s on the edge of fitness?
Pau Torres is also in a similar position, which I can’t quite get my head round.
Ross Berkeley and Tyrone Mings are still out, but at least the latter has now been declared to be “a few weeks away. Evan Guessand has been called up for the Afcon tournament, but I don’t see that as much of a loss.
As for Man Utd, Casemiro is suspended and Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbuemo are also at the Afcon, along with Noussair Mazraoui.
Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire, who I detest, could return.
So it’s like I said. Perhaps I should be worried. But I’m not.
I’m as confident as I’ve ever been of beating Utd, which perhaps should be worrying in itself and I should probably play safe and go for the draw.
But no. I’m sticking my neck out.
Villa to win. 2-1.
I honestly hope we do win, as the losses we’ve suffered over the years means payback time is well overdue.
UTV!

We’re missing Pau and I’d also consider Digne on soon…
Chesty again!!!!!!!!!!
Rogers. Again.
My god, this kid is quality.
He’s certainly on a roll!!!!!
We need a 3rd. Utd are still dangerous…
Cash makes up for his error just!!! Painful!!!!
Badger reconds he’s rubbish😜 he’s the best since sliced bread .
Erm…weren’t you calling for his head too, Bill? 🤣
Malen and Digne on…
Bill, I’ve been Rogers’ biggest fan, you mug .
I assume you’re joking?
Oh, you’re talking about Cash?
He’s definitely crap.
Badger you mug that’s a smiley face 😢😀 all my family remind me on what I said, anyway I don’t fall asleep when important matches come on . 😇
Yes, I realised after Bill 🙂
Chesty good, Cash crap 🙂
Wow if we can just hold on comme onnnnn just got a bad feeling sorry to be negative all UTMV
I’m nervous too…
I thought Guessand was at Afcon????
Just said he flies out straight after this game.
Gotcha. Bloody hell that was difficult!!!
Fucking get in!
Cagey, but a win!
And……………breath….!!!!!!
God that was hard work!!!!!
I thought we were awful today. But fortunately Man U were worse.
Is this the lowest standard the English game has ever been?
I honestly think it is.
It’s bloody boring, on the whole.
Boring? Well more like cardiac arresting than exciting, Fergie time still drags under new management. Mighty Morgan apart we were dreadfully careless in possession and under pressure. Add to that MMM Michael’s Manchester Myopia. Ugarte fouls Tielemans 3 times with a trip – no attempt to play the ball and no card. It is deliberate because Tielemans was conducting the midfield for us.
Kash + United, and accident waiting to happen. Last game Matty is tugged back so under hits the pass to Emi leading to the sending off. This match all his own fault – under pressure he gifts a goal with suicidal pass-back.
Finally I wish you all a Christmas Cracker and here’s a joke that should be in one.
Q. Why do Villa’s full-backs shine?
A. They are French Polish.
Love it!!!
Hehe, nice one.
Lucky for us that United were without key players at the Alcon. It was a poor performance by us but two moments of genius by Rogers proved enough. Credit to Lindelof who was solid and Martinez despite possible concussion coped with anything thrown at him. Dorgu for them was dangerous and Cunha gave our defence a difficult game.
It’s a positive that we can win despite being second best for the majority of the game.
Missed the two goals at the end of the first half – watched the second at the pub with my daughter and granddaughter – great win and so typical Villa this season. They just never give in.
Rogers is special but they all contributed.

Merry villa Xmas and prosperous new year to every villa fans on this site and long may it continue utv.
Beating man u at last happy days.
Shame city and arsenal keep winning
Badger.
Finally beating United may have blown a few fuses. In my last 2 posts my real name rather than “OLL again” appears, can you alter them
I’ve went on and sorted it for you mate. Let me know if there is any more.
Thought I’d watch MotD – but not the Rooney, I love United cr*p.
Villa won because United were poor – really!
Even Dublin got dragged into the ‘I love United crap’.
Personally, I don’t care – the more the pundits keep under praising Villa the better.
Watch the post match interview with Emery on BBC.
I really love our manager – what a guy.
We’ve endured so many years of disappointment – now we have brilliant owners, a simply world class manager and a quality team / squad.
Happy Christmas to you all.
UTMV
United played well for their standards. None of their players were at fault for Rogers’ first goal. We weren’t amazing, and they played above their level, and we still won.
It was so disappointing last season when we were level with other sides on points we were always behind on Goal Difference. Not to get too excited we are currently 5th with +9. Only Chelsea would beat us if they went level and most others are at least 6 behind.
Just more stats but it really pissed me off last year.
Anyway lets enjoy our team and Christmas. Best wishes to you all from Ireland.
Sorry I don’t buy this about not being on the same level as Utd , ok we wasn’t brilliant but we competed and remember a one time slip from Cash game them a goal. Even Keane commented that Villa exposed gaps and punished them, plus we had decisions from our favourite referee ignored. Their manager needs to think again about the best team lost , he’s in cloud cuckoo land saying that . And just for the record Rodgers is class you’ve heard that from someone who watch football for 80 odd years, Merry Christmas lads and happy new year to you all , Badger mate keep this site what it is, the best blog of the lot.
