We all know the story.
Villa fans thought the whistle had gone and leapt onto the pitch to celebrate.
There was very little, if any animosity aimed at the Albion fans and it was all celebratory, from what I’ve seen.
But it was a high profile game shown on the Beeb and gave totally the wrong message to anyone watching, in that it’s ok to invade if you’ve won an important game.
Which would be fine, if it was just an important game.
As we all know, that particular game was, well, a game-changer for the club, one that, for me, massively contributed to the difference of us staying up or going down.
But donning a neutral cap, it’s not a good enough excuse.
While I totally believe the fans intentions were perfectly good and it was just pure celebration, I think, having had time to think about it, that it was an inflammatory action that actually provoked the Albion fans into their behaviour, that was actually way worse than ours.
My opinion says the Albion fans don’t really kick off in the way some of our other local fans do, is the point.
I understand that this might not be a popular opinion, but we have had some previous history this season.
We’d already been fined £100K for the Leicester game, a fine that had been increased after a previous £50k fine in an earlier game, that eludes me (Stoke?).
Don’t get me wrong.
I don’t blame the fans for this at all (apart from getting the timing wrong), but the fact that the game was shown live with the likes of Lawrenson saying it was a disgrace and practically the end of footy as we know it didn’t help.
Where were the stewards and police, who while I wouldn’t expect them to stop a full blown invasion, should surely have done better?
Penny pinching? Probably, given the fact that I actually got thrown out of VP for holding an unlit cigarette a while back (yes, it still wrankles, for those who remember the story. Pay peanuts, get monkeys).
Is that £200k actually a record?
I thought West Ham got the same for the fracas against Millwall, but don’t know for sure.
Summing up, yes, it’s a harsh fine, but are we really surprised, given that it’s the FA who handed it out?
They’ll happily sell their soul down the river and will do anything to pay off the stupid money that the unwanted Wembley cost.
I have the same opinion of those in charge of the FA, as they seemingly have for football supporters who are celebrating a win.

A boost for hull Leicester Sunderland barcodes if we fuck up we paid the price
drop the lot of them for the cup final and play the reserves . they cant play any worse than that shower of gutless pricks . i would send the lot of them on holiday as they think there on the beach already.
Talked about the Villa with my son last night and we came to the conclusion that the attack is okay (so long as Benteke stays and Kozak and Bent do something), mid-field looks promising (if we can sign Cleverley) but the defense has been held together with spit and baling wire for too long. I’m not surprised they fell apart today if I’m honest. That’s where Tim really needs to spend next year.
Just hope Kane remembers how nice Tim was to him when he was manager and does the business for us today
UTV and Come on you Spurs!
Pat57, spot on, mind you I’ve just made B6 laugh saying that.
You made me laugh by saying we need a massive clear out, At no point did you say ONLY the defence needs sorting out. 🙂
Defence was a shambles today but tim has to take some if the blame for playing such a high line against the speed of their front 3, given was awful too and vlar doesn’t deserve a new contract! Koeman got it spot on putting wanyama on grealish, fair enough I think grealish did as good as you could expect against him winning fouls but that’s all he could do, the problem was our other front player nzogbia offers nothing except running into players and losing the ball constantly but still he’s at least got better movement compared to gabby who slows our play way too much, sinclair should have been brought on instead of him or gil if tim wasn’t so stubborn! We do need a lot of players next season, a LB, RB, CM, RW and a forward and they all hav to be better than what we already have not like lambert signing squad players! Spuds do us a favour please???
Turned the TV off at 3-0 and went into the garden! It had all the trademarks of that 8-0 drubbing at Chelsea. One of the problems with confidence is too much of it and that’s in part what happened today. Just the little I saw suggested Villa had just turned up expecting to win – Collymore described it as gutless – don’t think our Tim will be too happy tonight and a few might be looking over their shoulder come FA Cup Final.
Still think we have enough points but would have preferred at least a draw today. Bring on Burnley and the Arse.
We will not be relegated UTV
Got Spurs on in the lounge, Sunderland in the kitchen and Newcastle in the bedroom 🙂
Whose in bed then? Come on you Spurs,
Lol…not the wife….never speak to her on a Saturday….havent done for 40 years! Give her a fiver every week to treat herself 🙂
Congratulation Langford, I’m 14 years longer than that, its murder in disguised is it not, a Fiver I’ll try that.
And she always comes back skint….dont know what she does with it all 🙂
TBF a fiver was a lot of money 40 years ago. Good job you didn’t agree to index link it
oh yeah i remember now why given and Hutton were in the bomb squad
Spurs playing shit. Hull deserve to be in front! 0-0
on a serious note though bad day at the office much as i love westy i think this was a game for Sanchez, midfield was to far away from defense, so defense had to play a high line and were slaughtered by a team using our usual tactics, you would think they would know how to combat that
Newcastle 1 nil up
Means nothing, we’re safe.
One off result dont sweat over it we will be focusing on the fa cup final. Best thing is that benteke scored again keeping his confidence high. We are safe 100% don’t worry about ridiculous combinations of results it won’t happen. This won’t hurt the lads but Sherwood is the type to pick them up again anyway. Utv europe here we come!
Last game. Showdown?????? SHITE
Cleverly was shite as well bk to normal
Means nothing, we’re safe.
Is Geppetto your dad OhAhh???
Tot scored
Souds 1 up….yes
safe!
Yes 2 now..
Sometimes we can over react to 1 half of football.
We have played really well since Sherwood arrived, lets not judge to quickly or harshly.
On another noth spurs 2 – 0 Hull.
Unless Hull can produce a miracle we are safe.
Hull going down
Told you Bill, we’re safe. 😉
Can someone give oohah a hug, he is upset because we’re safe. 🙂
I did an article a month ago predicting us to get 37 points and stay up so at least I was right as always though we got 38. Fuming after today bill didn’t expect us to win but thought we’d push them close as bad as anything under lamberk
You done an article predicting that we’d get 37 points and we currently have 38. How in the name of god does that make you right? #confused
I said I was a point out
But got the staying up bit correct which makes me right
Finally, but if we won today, would you say you thought we would’ve won and were right?
Of course, I think you’re great 🙂
Which would also imply that should Benteke leave NEXT summer that would also make you right because you have said he will leave?
QPR 2-1 now
lol – love it. Newcastle fans deserve better though…
Oohah xxxxxxxxxxxx
Its party time…………………….party time………………party time……………..
We HAVE NOT BEEN RELEGATED”…………………party time”……………

Oohah lighten up mate that was planed, Sherwood’s tacktic mate.
Party, party, party, party, party, party
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙁
There was a few on here complaining about lack of investment in the squad and made comparisons to what Hull spent in summer transfer window. Spending does not guarantee success. Ask Hull and QPR fans.
Very true Tekkers….Thank god they ain’t in charge of our great club eh!!
QPR’s spending is an anomaly. Bad management at the top. A bit like us until Fatty left…
