Villa – Brighton; I’ll bet you know what I’m thinking.

Just a few short weeks ago, I’d have been brimful of confidence and saying that this is all over before it’s started, with a convincing win to the Villa.

But now, where confidence amongst us Villa fans has collapsed, this game looks like the others in the last few weeks, where we’ve suffered previously unthinkable defeats. That unthinkable it seems embarrasing that we actually thought we wereΒ  almost invincible.

And of course Brighton are on one of those runs that usually automatically undoes us. They’ve lost won one in twelve games and are in freefall down the table.

It’s bound to end in disaster for us then. Or is it?

Team news is nothing has changed. Ross Barkley, John McGinn, Boubacar Kamara and Youri Tielemans are all still out, as is Andres Garcia.

Garcia. Has he had more than two weeks availability for us this season? It doesn’t seem like it. Mr Glass 2? Lets hope not. I’m sure he was out for weeks, back for a couple and was then out again in quick time, but I lose track.

And Brighton are slightly worse off, having Diego Gomez, Solly March, Stefanos Tzimas, Mats Wielder and Adam Webster all out and Yasin Ayari looking doubtful.

So there it is then. We’re doomed to lose this one. It’ll just follow the same old Aston Villa pattern.

Except I don’t think it will and I am desperately hoping that we won’t lose this one.

Emery will start Watkins for this and I think it’ll be a big mistake. Ollie hasn’t shown any spark for ages and it’s almost like something is missing, if you ask me. Is he disinterested? I don’t know, but he lacks any edge about his game and it’s a case of that old adage about finishing his breakfast in my eyes.

It’s a shame, as I’ve been one of his biggest cheerleaders during this barren spell, but he looks like a liability to the team now and talk of barn doors springs to mind when I think of him. Emery’s persistence with him has been admirable but in my opinion, he now needs to drop him. He won’t, of course. But he should, particularly now we have Kevin looking sharper.

We dug out a hard fought draw against Bournemouth and I’m hoping that’s stopped the rot.

The problem is though we’ve had three blanks for in our last five games. That’s not good enough for a top 3 team and is indicative of a striking problem.

Still, as much as I said it for the Brentford game, we should have more than enough to beat Brighton.

Villa to win 2-1 and if we don’t take the points, well…

We just need to.

UTV!

        1. Great! As long as we can sneak a winner…at ‘Fortress Villa Park’…
Surely we can’t blow the gift that was last nights results…Can we???

  1. Bloody hell, shock,horror a Buendia shot.
God this is so, so poor to watch.
And this Brummie commentator is getting right on my threppnies with that voice.
    Anyone know who it is?

      1. BFR, it must be a different channel. I’m guessing I’m listening to some blogger dickhead.
        Bloke.

    1. I’m seriously contemplating not bothering with the second half.
      It’s really that bad.

  2. BFR, we miss anyone with any vitality.
Their midfield is shocking, but we’ve let them give us a game in the middle.

  3. Awful game. Understandable from them but not good enough from Villa. My thinking in a game against a team lacking confidence and on an awful run is go for the throat. We just started slowly as usual and we have got sucked into a bad tempered battle.

Watkins is utterly useless atm. Drop him and play Abraham. Maybe the anger and embarrassment will reignite him but he offers little atm.

Everything seems to be play safe and then overplay when on the break. That last attack where Rogers flicked on when he had space for a touch and a shot did my head in.

Hope we shape up in the second half as this is 3 points on a plate if we want it

  4. Congratulations folks on managing to stay awake for the whole first half. We look clueless and devoid of any ideas. I’ve said it before but without Tielemans and McGinn we lack any creativity. Watkins at least is consistent in that he is shite again.

  5. Ref has bought every sham free kick Brighton have bid for.

I have to point the finger at DouglasLuiz. Since his return the Villa’s attack has looked threadbare, and his corners – hah – they don’t go anywhere near where our better headers of the ball can run on to them. He can’t aim the kicks.

    1. Ah, okay, Bill.
I’ve never noticed him sound so crap before.

      This game is terrible.
Could go either way, it’s that bad.
Bailey and Barkley on, some pair of useless gits coming off.
      I don’t expect much difference.

  6. “A cold night”!
Albrighton is a joke commentator, in my eyes . It’s bloody warm, considering the time of year!

  7. Dougie looks a shadow of a shadow of the player that left us. Decision making is shocking, slow, or shockingly slow.

  8. Hooray, broken limb Watkins off, Allyson on.
My god, anything is worth a try, after this utter crap.

  9. And Barkley immediately looks our most accomplished player. He had 3 touches without giving it away.

    1. Reminds me a bit of 98-99 under Gregory. Well in the title race then completely ran out of steam after New Year.

  10. What a fucking disgrace that is. A blatant two handed shove in the chest in the penalty area and it’s not even looked at?
    Totally disgraceful.

And I’ve written that after we’d scored.

I honestly despair about how this game is going.

    As a sidenote, Villa 1-0

    1. Apparently they checked it. My arse. Why don’t we get the full works? 5 minute delay, then show the VAR in the office having a chat, then send the ref to the TV…

  11. I switched off at 82mins so I would like to claim an assist.

I promise to do the same when needed for the rest of the season.
