Villa 2 – 0 Albion; rubbish first half, loads of talking points and WEMBERLEY!

What a bloody roller coaster that was!
I’m totally elated, so am struggling for words, but I’ll give it a go.

Ok, the first half was basically shocking. There were far too many players who quite simply weren’t performing in my opinion, but even if we’d lost this game, I’d got it in my head that I wasn’t going to name them, as for me, it just isn’t the right time to be slating the players about a cup game.

Contrary to the commentary I was listening to (the Beeb), I thought the ref was awful from the off and he gave a bad decision against both sides in the first five minutes. Ok, keep the game flowing but when they’re not fouls, just get it right.

Getting to the point then and it’s more about Sherwood again.
There’s no doubt whatsoever from the overall game that he knows how to motivate the players in my opinion.

The fact is we were rubbish in the first half, but came out a different team and scored within five minutes. Surely this can’t be a coincidence, can it?

I could rattle on about how Sherwood made attacking subs and compare him to Lambert, who would have tried to hold the game, to no avail. But I won’t bother, as surely anyone can see it now.

More important than looking back on Lambert’s disastrous reign, is those two shocking sending off decisions.
Even more important is, what were those fans thinking, in invading the pitch before the game was over?

And even more important than that is if we can avoid the winner of the Man U-Arse game in the next round, we have a very serious chance of actually winning the FA cup!

Thanks Pat – what a rabble!

  3. thing is its nothing we haven’t done at various local clubs i don’t think its anything to do with kick off times when you have a mob with peer pressure, exuberance anger, joy . you don’t need substances to get you high. even our own Stanley victor knows how a fire extinguisher works

Interesting to see Gardner is still excelling at Notts Forrest scoring what is apparently a cracking long range goal. A fan favourite over there from what I hear. Hopefully TS bring him back to villa and get him playing to his potential for us.

  5. Really think we should all take a step back for a moment.

Great that we have beaten the Baggies twice, BUT, TS and the team still have a lot of work to do. On another day, WBA could have been 3-0 up before half time. Behrinho, Ideye and Lescott all had superb chances, another day it would have been 3 conceded.

I see 4-0 predictions, 4-1 etc for the Sunderland game, but I think the game will be won by just one goal.

Things are going in the right direction though, the biggest problem for Villa over recent months is the cloud hanging over them has gone. Nobody is talking about our lack of goals anymore and there is real optimism about the place. And dare I say it, we are having a little luck recently which hasn’t been there all season.

We are still not out of the woods yet lads, still got a lot of work to do, but things are looking up and I’m becoming less dead by the day!

Lets just not forget the position we are in!

    UTV!

Agree we’ve rode our luck but still think we will stay up though we shouldn’t be in this position in the first place but that’s another story.

  6. @DVF I have to admit that you’re just being realistic (and you’re probably spot on with regard to the score) but let us dream for a while.

A double win over the baggies would have been just that only a few weeks ago when Lambert was in charge, If the change hadn’t been made Pulis would have been beaming and bullshitting into the cameras after two solid wins and we’d have never heard the last of it from the Baggies fans.

With TS anything is possible so I’m going for Sunderland 0 – Aston Villa 4 (but I’d be delighted with a scrappy 0-1 win too!)

    1. Yeah, point taken Pat!

I’m on cloud 9 but I dare not dream. Because our beloved Villa usually manage to turn those dreams into nightmares lol!

And don’t we know it! I don’t even want to think his long it is since we won three on the trot so I’m going to box safe and go for a draw which statistically for Sunderland this season seems right.

Sorry Giddy, still optimistic but being cautiously realistic …… Agh sod it 0-2 Villa 🙂

        1. 1-4 VILLA keep the faith MATE your slacking 😀

Sunderland game is a big game. To me it is a must win game along with the home games to QPR and Burnley. If we win those three games we should be as good as safe with a couple of draws in a few of the other fixtures. But these teams are capable of a turn in fortune just as much as us. Feeling a lot more positivity with TS in charge but won’t rest easy till we are mathematically safe which might not be till after the Burnley game. Long way to go yet but it does feel like it might just be enjoyable along the way.

However I’ve decided to allow myself to dream. After the couple of years we’ve had we deserve it.

Just wandered how much the BBC had to pay the F A for scheduling a derby game at 5.30 on a Saturday.
The F A should charge themselves.

That’s us out if it’s liverpool not a chance. Even if we did we won’t beat arsenal in final they will muller us. Looked good tonight

God, every time we meet a team in the top four, you assume we’re going to lose, Oohah.

We have a decent record against Pool and an even better one against Arse, when we’re not on our turf!

I’ll bet you’re gutted your second club lost tonight, aren’t you?

        1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
          OohAhPaulMcGrath

We lost twice to arse this year they scored 8 we got 0 Ffs. Liverpool beat us at VP and they are much better now. I think we will give them a gamebut can’t see us beating them. You seriously think we’d beat arsenal lol.

              OohAhPaulMcGrath

Yes but we beat Liverpool and arse last year under lamberk. Remember when we played utd at Wembley with a better team and still list then chelsea in semis of cup that was a waste of time as we’ll. Yes we has ref against us etc but still lost. Mark my words we will not beat Liverpool we will give them a game but that’s it. As for Arsenal they are red hot at the moment and could give us a 2.0 start and still be favourites.

              OohAhPaulMcGrath

Let’s see how timbo does test of season. Yes he will keep us up but I doubt very much he will sustain it into next season. Ooh ah is rarely wrong iv been proved right about Dunne, lamberk, mclown and Vlaar lol

            From what I saw tonight?
            We have a chance.
Man U were crap mate and Arse weren’t much better. Both sides gave the ball away cheaply.

It quite simply isn’t as clear cut as you make out and it’s the cup, where anything can happen.

            I think you forget that.

            1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
              OohAhPaulMcGrath

True but can you honestly see us beating Liverpool then arsenal lol. If we do I will run round villa park naked with my girlfriends knickers over my head that’s how sure I am. We will definitely stay up though. Remember both teams tonight we’re playing someone as good as they were if that makes sense.

We can do Pool; I’m convinced. Blackburn might prove trickier.

Just watched the Man U- Arse game.
Load of cheats on both sides, imo.
And the fawning over Man U is just embarrassing.
Almost makes me ashamed of the game.
Bloody glad they lost, tbh, as they’re rubbish, considering they spent £150 mill???.

        There you go, then.

What price Bradford to beat Pool?
        Ok chances are, probably not.

        But you never know.

It’s a shame the romance of the cup seems beyond you mate.

For me, it’s what footy is about.

        1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
          OohAhPaulMcGrath

I’m realistic badger things like this never happen to teams like us anymore. Hull went 2 up v arse last season and still lost. In not saying it’s impossible I’m saying it’s highly unlikely. If in the unlikely event we play Blackburn then Bradford then fair enough if expect us to win it.

          1. Badger123 avatar
            Badger123

            You’re beyond hope, I reckon.

Yes, I’d prefer Bradford. We owe them one.
But at the moment, I’m scared of no-one, as Sherwood has the lads wound up, which counts for a lot.

Man City or Chelsea would have me more worried and they aren’t in it.

Same as the Prem, it’s all there to play for, for me.

            1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
              OohAhPaulMcGrath

Well I hope your right badger but il be amazed if we win it. I certainly wont be going to Wembley can’t stand the place total rip off should be at a neutral ground like OT. At least we should stay up which is more important

          2. Tekkers48 avatar
            Tekkers48

Wigan beat Man City not long back in the final Ooh Ahh. Things like that do happen. It’s the magic of the cup. If I had have predicted us to beat the Baggies twice in a week a few months ago you would have laughed at me and rightly so. You just seem to suffer from selective memory. Bring back the positive Ooh Ahh ! 😉

            1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
              OohAhPaulMcGrath

I did day we’d beat baggies they arnt that good. But let’s face it we didn’t half ride our luck we can’t play for 45 mins v pool or arse we will get hammered. Yes Wigan did well but they went down I don’t want us killing ourselves for an unlikely cup win only to go down it would be pointless.

          3. Tekkers48 avatar
            Tekkers48

I agree with you there. Don’t want us to win cup at expense of premier league status. It’s a shame though that the game had come to that. Being in the prem to make up the numbers has become more important than winning th FA Cup. Football sold it’s soul to SKY !

I fancy Blackburn to beat Liverpool in replay. Liverpool not that great in my opinion.

            1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
              OohAhPaulMcGrath

Possible i an see us beating Blackburn. Your right it’s ridiculous that just existing in Orem is more important than winning cup. Sky have a strangle hold on football. Their coverage is rubbish pundits are a load of poseurs and they are ripping fans of blind. Though fans don’t ha e to sump scribe of course.

          Badger 1 – OohAh 0

  14. Thing is we have nothing to lose in this cup. Everyone is against us after the crowd trouble and because of our league position expect we will just roll over but we can play freely whilst the other teams are expected to win. Even better if we are 7 or 8 points off the bottom by then we would have no pressure at all.

  15. Badger123 avatar
    Badger123

    Oohah,
    I probably am dreaming.
But I didn’t even dare under Lambert.

That’s a massive positive in itself!

Cling tight to the train mate, as you’re close to falling off.

      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Well you dream Badger I hope your right I really do. Would love us to win fa cup as it’s the only trophy we’ve not won in my lifetime. But just can’t see it.

  16. andrew avatar

a little off topic but i have just viewed clear footage of two baggies players tripping and throwing themselves at pitch invaders. so depending how far the fa want to go we could see player bans

    1. Bum Bum avatar

What do you mean? Baggies players acting up???

  17. Hitchens 60 avatar
    Hitchens 60

OohAh – you stopped taking your positive pills 🙂 Keep the faith mate – of course Pool and Arse have better players than us but so did Chelsea when they played Bradford!

Pool have to beat Blackburn first and they might just be looking at going for a champions league place as a priority.

Anyway mate we’re just coming into form for the run in.

  18. Tekkers48 avatar
    Tekkers48

I am a superstitious creature. The fact Villa were drawn as the home team (I know it’s at Wembley but you know what I mean) in the draw tonight was enough for me to believe we have one foot in the final already. We have been drawn as home team in every round ! It’s an omen.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Is there some sort of advantage being drawn first in a semi eg choice if ends etc

      1. Tekkers48 avatar
        Tekkers48

Not sure on that ? How about if you are drawn first you only have to get a draw to get to final ! 😉

  19. FFS No point in discussing who might be better than who – this is the semi-final of the bloody FA CUP.

If we want to win it we will have to beat at least one or probably two good teams, if we don’t then we’ve still had a great cup run and a visit to Wembley.

Doesn’t matter who you get in the semis you have to beat them. And why all this talk about the pool when they haven’t even beaten Blackburn yet? Amyway if you want to win the cup you have to beat the best…
…and why not? This is Villa’s year in the cup. We’ve NEVER had all home draws as far as I can remember (usually Man Ure in the 3rd or 4th round away). If we play our best game I now believe we can beat anyone on any given day and that’s all it’s about really…one match on one day. Why can’t it be our day?

    UTV

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Trip to Wembley for a semi is pointless. Assuming we play liverpool game should be at OT. Much better atmosphere. There’s also the ref factor the media want a liverpool arse final so ref will help them as much as possible.

  20. Andrew avatar

We can definitely beat Pool, especially with Gabby running at them. I can see us opening Blackburn up if we had too as well.

Seems Sherwood almost “confirms” Gil will be waiting till next season as it’s all about points and we won’t be seeing his philosophy till next season.

  21. Hitchens 60 avatar
    Hitchens 60

See that the BBC have already written everyone off other than Pool and Arse – headline being Pool avoid Arse in SF so that’s it then – the mighty BBC have spoken. Hope they both get knocked out.

    1. Bum Bum avatar

I found that dismissive too. The subtext is offensive to the fans and other clubs. I’m an eternal fan of the BBC but that headline really pissed me off…

        Same here.
Can’t stand the ‘others’ but the BBC have gone from being London-centric to Manc-centric since moving so many people up to Salford. They do seem to have a complete ‘downer’ on anything to do with the Midlands – or is that just me being an over-sensitive Brummie?

Morning all, great draw for us I think….. Liverpool have Swansea away, then Manure and the Arse, so think Blackburn may just do em at home…. Id be pooping it if we had Bradford or the Arsenal…… Then its the final and we all know anything can happen in the Final

  24. Agree its a good draw as I def didn’t want Arse in the semis.

Don’t mind if it is Liverpool cos if we beat them and then Arsenal in the final no-one can say we didn’t deserve it.

Isn’t it great to think that its even possible?
