Tuesday Paper Talk

The Telegraph reports that Allan Hutton is close to a move to Mallorca, but it’s not a permanent transfer, it’s a loan deal. It appears as though Mallorca can’t afford the transfer fee for Hutton which was rumoured to be around 800,000-1 million pounds. Hutton has been training and playing with the ‘bomb squad’, this team consists of Given, Bent, Ireland and Bannan. Paul Lambert is trying to sell all of these players and has only managed to offload Holman. Hutton played well for Mallorca last season, how they were relegated to Spain’s second division.

Shay Given’s move to Doncaster is still in progress, it’s going to be another season-long loan. However the stumbling block is Given’s wages. Doncaster are unsure how to pay a portion of the wages.

Ashley Westwood targets more assists and goals this season, the young midfielder impressed last season but wants to improve this season.

“In terms of progress, I’d like a few more assists. You’re always looking to progress your game.

“But I’d love to score in front of the Holte End too. That would be special – to hear the roar and celebrate with the fans.” – Ashley Westwood

Lastly, Weimann has a hip injury that will most likely keep him out for a few weeks. However it’s still unknown how long he will be out for. Aston Villa are currently struggling with injuries with Bowery, Agbonlahor, Tonev, Albrighton, Okore and Helenius all sidelined. The season begins in 20 days or so.

“He’s got a sore one, so I need to see how that goes. It’s a sore back and a sore hip.

“Hopefully he’ll be okay in – I don’t know how long – in the next few weeks or so.” – Lambert on Weimann’s injury

Also, confirmation that there is no release claus in Benteke’s new contract. great news for us. If he has another season like last and a good world cup we could be looking at a very very large fee if he is to go. UTV

  3. Hutton off on a free it’s widely reported, I’d be happy with that.

The injuries are a bit worrying, especially as they are happening to our attacking players. I hope we’re not pushing them too hard, too quickly in pre season.

We are still leaking goals. Perhaps another quality centre back wouldn’t be a bad shout.

Just read report their second goal was a mixup between vlaar and Clark ffs. Il know il get slated by the avfc (Aston Vlaar fan club) but he s making mistakes already against conference teams. I know it’s a friendly bit still worrying

We already have 4 centre-backs! We also have Herd to fill in if needed.

Also we have Donacien and Webb from our youth academy. I just think that Lambert should start Vlaar-Baker/Okore together in pre-season matches. I think that’ll be the best fitting partnership in defence.
