Sunderland – Villa; Should be straightforward (Ahem)

Well, on paper, it should be shouldn’t it?
Sunderland are bottom of the table and their main problem seems to be that they concede too many goals.
Ok, they might play decent stuff at times, but they don’t get results and have drawn three and lost three in their last six games.
Hence we really ought to win this and I fully expect us too.
If we don’t, we’ll be putting ourselves under undue pressure, as you can bet Cardiff will beat Barnsley and Fulham will beat Sheff Utd.

In squad news, Chelsea’s loan defender Jake Clarke-Salter is serving the second game of a three match ban.
Kazenga LuaLua may be available after an ankle injury. Paddy McNair is out with a groin strain.

As for us, Jack Grealish is a maybe. Axel Tuanzebe has been struggling with a hamstring strain, but could also make the squad but Alan Hutton is doubtful.

Oops, the team line-up is out, which shows how late I am;

Aston Villa

1 Johnstone
27 El Mohamady
5 Chester
26 Terry
3 Taylor
7 Snodgrass
6 Whelan
14 Hourihane
37 Adomah
45 Grabban
9 Hogan

Substitutes

8 Lansbury
10 Grealish
15 Jedinak
18 Onomah
20 Bjarnason
31 Bunn
39 Davis

Which should be plenty to get the win.

I’m going 2-1 to us

UTV!

Ought to be as easy as it gets, but I’m not banking on it.
    I never do, these days.

  2. Adomah back is massive. Grealish on the bench is the right thing.

Nice short, sharp passing, but it’s going nowhere.

    Grabban 1-0

Need to get our goal difference up tonight, Sunderland are absolute garbage and are nailed on to go down.
We’re going to have to be faultless between now and the end of the season as I don’t think Fulham are going to lose another game :/

2-0 Chester, from a nice Snodgrass corner.
And yes, sunderland are very poor.

  9. 2 nil lol we are walking it. NOT been a none event first half half. sunderland did ok until the goal. but understandable their heads dropped and the second should be the end of game as contest. more goals will be on offer if they press on. but warning sunderland came from 3 nil down i think against bristrol city to draw 3 each they will come out all guns blazing just need to withstand that should be a win.

    Grealish coming on.
3-0 Villa, piss poor defending and an oG from hourihane’s ball.

  12. sunderland fans gave up early straight after that goal. they throw their toys out the pram

Sunderland are shocking. I knew defensively they were so bad, but without Grabban they don’t have a goal scorer. They’re relying on 22 and 19 year old’s up front because their owner didn’t replace Grabban. It’s just sad to watch them. They can play decent football and I think if they go down they’ll come right back up under Coleman. They just lack the talent to do anything.

    Bjarnasson on for Grabban.
Our subs look really strong today.

  15. grealish’s run then shows why we need him. just brilliant at running with speed and with the ball

Snodgrass should have shot then, but passed to Adomah.
Very generous of him, but why?

  17. agree should have shot but he was being unselfish team comes first. but was easier to score than to pass

  18. been a good game. in that grealish has blown the cob webs off two decent runs. he will rip wolves to shreds

  19. if wolves are to implode it has to be now. leeds away tomorrow then us away. wouldnt like to go to elland road at this stage of the season.

Hard to gauge the performance as Sunderland are an abysmal mess of a club. Still you can’t knock the result.
Big game tomorrow night, if Leeds could turn over Wolves and then we were to win on Saturday the gap would incredibly be down to 4 points and suddenly there could be 2 automatic spots to fight. Still there’s a lot of if’s there and theyll probably win at Leeds.
Cardiff have a tough run coming up after they Blues at the weekend, I’m confident they’ll drop some points. Fulham on the other hand could win every remaining game, been saying it for weeks. If we don’t get 2nd I hope they do as I wouldn’t fancy us in a play off scenario against them.

Easy peasy. It’s going to be tight to the end. If we want to go straight up we will need to win our games against our rivals.
