Sunderland 3 – 1 Villa; that’s exactly why we’re going down

There’s an old saying that says you make your own luck.
And the simple fact is we have none whatsoever.

Today summed up everything that says we’re going down and if anyone still believes it’s not true, well I’m afraid I can only say you’re deluded.

We were the better side for the first half hour until Sunderland scored from a long distance shot that got deflected leaving Guzan no chance.

Then we bought Traore on, who scared the crap out of their defenders and did well to set up Gil for the equaliser.
And then what happened?
Off he goes with yet another injury.

And then Defoe gets a chance where he only has one place to shoot (the near post) and Guzan doesn’t have it covered.
Shocking goalkeeping from a goalie whose confidence is shot.

Next up was a Sunderland corner, where it seemed we had 4 defenders near the corner flag trying to defend and no-one where it mattered, after some comical defending, resulting in Guzan again passing to one of our players only for him not to know it was coming and the opposition scored again.

I could go on about how the performance wasn’t too bad against another equally shocking side.
But what’s the point?

It ultimately boils down to the fact that if we can’t get a win against Sunderland, where do we see a single win coming from?

Wycombe up next in the cup isn’t it?
You just know they’ll want it more and I’m dreading it.

I have to hold my hands up here and say that if I was Lerner, I’d be looking very closely at what sort of players the manager wants to get in.
If any targets are aimed at Premier league survival, I’d say forget it.

This team needs dismantling, as too many of our squad just aren’t good enough for the Villa.

That said, I saw the look on Garde’s face a few times and it was pretty emotionless.
I suspect he knows what we are.
And it’s frankly rubbish.

May can’t come soon enough.

Sherwood had to go but I genuinely believe he would have collected more points than Garde. The manager has to take some responsibility for inspiring the players and building players’ confidence. It sounds pie in the sky but the board should make an audacious swoop to get Mourinho in until the end of the season. The Man United role is probably on ice for now following their win. Need someone like him to lift the club and dressing room and give the club direction. At the least he would enhance player transfer fees come end of season – you can imagine the likes of Gabby and Grealish being up for it with under Mourinho. What’s in it for Mourinho? Although he’s got nothing to prove it seems like he feels he has unfinished business in Prem. If anyone can inspire a Leicester phoenix from the Ashes, it’s him

Why would Mourinho make any difference his Chelsea team are only 12 points above us and that’s with quality all over the pitch. He was a broken man in the end and couldn’t do anything to lift them and had lost dressing room. Mourinho wouldn’t come anyway not even temporary. There is no hope now if we signed Messi and Ronaldo tomorrow we would still go down because the rest of the team is so shit especially defence. Just accept we are down now it’s a formality

Sherwood wouldn’t have got any more points, we were losing every week under him too, or have people forgotten that
And Mourinho, come on, regardless of what happened he’s still one of the most in demand managers in the world. You are living on a different planet if you think he’d even give the current shambles at B6 a second of his time

The situation with Micah Richards sums the club up.
Nobody wanted him because of his stupidly high wage demands and insistence on playing CB, a position he is woeful in. But in came captain stupid Sherwood and gave him a long term deal and the captaincy on the basis of nothing… its pathetic. Mind you, we did the same with Lescott who the Baggies were desperate to get rid of so its no surprise really.
I was at the pre season game at Forest and from that game you could tell Richards has absolutely ZERO positioning sense, tactical astuteness or discipline to play at CB and that has proved correct every single week every game he has played. He is a full back and not a good one at that IMO (albeit better than Hutton) But the fact he dictates to the management where he plays and captains our club is a farce.
Don’t want to just pick on him, you could do this for 90% of our squad. Guzan for one has become an absolute joke. It begs the question just how bad are the other keepers at the club for him to start every game.

i have a season ticket that is fully paid for and would have to pay someone to take it off me.
as i am nearly 33 and have witnessed some good villa teams and some bad this has to be by far the worst.
we are owned by some yank who lost interest some years ago and only owns us because no one in their right mind would buy us for x amount of millions as it would cost millions and some years of investment to challenge the top six again.
villa park will be one of those old famous stadiums lost to the fl72 for the immediate future and have to put up with channel 5 highlights.

What an absolutely awful state of affairs!

We are clearly down. There is no turning this around now. Championship football next year and probably league 1 the year after. I’ve said for a long long time that if we go down we’ll disappear into the football league abyss like forest and Leeds! We’re not cut out for the nitty gritty of the lower tiers. That is the most worrying part of it. There’ll be no instant bounce back like the barcodes or any yoyo-ing like the old allardyce Bolton teams, we’ll be plain and simply gone, for years and a return might take a decade, if we’re lucky.

We were pioneers once upon a time the villa. Now we have Gestede. Any sane manager and his bosses should now be putting in place (if possible, which I think not) a plan for a speedy return to PL football.

Dear Randy, thank you not, you’ve made a mess of an age old gem. From an ordinary villan, who is completely clueless at how you’ve managed to do it.

We now need to move away from blaming managers and begin to blame the owner and the players.

I also feel something has been wrong in our dressing room for a long time, I felt this at the time when Houllier came in and went. We have players who get signed that look freat then they mix with our dressing room all of a sudden they are shit N Zogbia and Ireland spring to mind.

We have young talented players who seem to think they can throw it all away Bannan and now Grealish.

I believe we need to sell the whole of the first team squad and i also think we need a new owner who loves the club until then we will be stuck in the same circle continuously.

We have a collection of rot throughout the club our league position does not lie and the only two constants during our downfall is a core group of players and Randy Lerner

Its hard to know what to say about Villa anymore. We have witnessed some terrible teams over the past 5 years or so, but this beats all of them. No passion, no idea and no chance of us staying up.

If you look at the people employed from top to bottom at Villa, how many really deserve to be in the Premier League. The Board is f*cking clueless, the scouts are a waste of money, most of the players are not premier league quality and Remi Garde and his staff have managed to inspire us to 0 wins in 10 games. Its just appalling.

We have a handful of decent players at the club, but they will be gone in the summer. We have to start again. Would be nice to think we could look to our youth setup, but are the players that we are producing good enough to get us out of the Championship? I have my doubts.

This Micah Richards thing is weird as is Hutton playing every game. Dont get me wrong Hutton gives it 100% and i cannot fault his attitude; However he should have been dropped 3 games a go and Richards should be playing RB. I think both have clauses in the contract to say they must play in every game. It just does not make any sense. When Richards was injured our defence looked a lot tighter and balanced, now our captain is back in the centre of defence nobody knows what they are doing.

I also think these players are losing games on purpose to force out the manager almost every manager has to force the defenders up the pitch, as you cant playing pressing football if your defenders are sitting to deep. Successful teams when attacking have a short distance from defenders to attackers especially in midfield as this creates more space to move the ball around, our players dont do this. All of our managers i have witnessed shouting at the players to move up the pitch, these guys are professional footballers in the top league and they dont know this? Big problems with big attitudes at the club its time also to move on the youth development team because when these players make it to the first team they have such a shit attitude they self destruct.

We are rotten to the core and this is by far no easy fix, I dont think a yank full of bullshit sentiments and sound bites helps either.

    Sorry for ranting

Something isn’t right at the club anyway… I know Traore is raw and young, he probably isn’t the best at tracking be either but when fit he is our best attacker so why does he not start? I bet there’s clauses in his contract if he does.. Likewise Richards, I bet there’s a clause in his that says if he’s fit he has to play and at centre back.

Remi is undoubtedly an intelligent and considered manager but he hasn’t had an impact. He is an unknown quantity and I can’t imagine he knows the Championship well enough, so the dilemma is how many more games should he get if the winless run continues? We really don’t want to break Derby’s unwanted lowest points record as it won’t be broken again for a long time. Prior to Villa, Garde only ever managed at Lyon where he had already spent several years as part of the coaching team, so felt at home and confident in his surroundings. In the cold light of day his appointment was a big gamble that hasn’t paid off. Defence is all over the place – has he got the cojones to make the tough calls. My view is give him 2-3 loan players in Jan and give him a target of 2 wins in Jan. If he doesn’t achieve this then we have to cut our losses and start all over.

We need to clear out the dressing room first, those players are not worthy of the Prem. The owner needs to leave any new players should be loans youth and short term contracts until a new owner is found. We keep changing the manager and it’s not working so we have other problems at our club. Not saying Remi is the man as I don’t think anyone is, it’s clear to me the board is rotten as is the playing staff.

Once a new owner is found and the whole team is sold then we can rebuild with a new manager and set of coaches throughout the club.

The board definitely have to take a big share of the blame. However, I don’t get why the players are not fighting tooth and nail especially the ones that have relegation clauses – apparently wages can drop as much as 50%. If they’re not performing then they’re not going to be sought after, so not as though they can jump ship without financial consequence. Wonder which players have said clauses?

Don’t blame Remi, the rot was in every corner of Villa Park way before he showed up. He keeps talking about believing but his comments about staying around even if (he means when really) we get relegated show I think that he, like all Villa fans, know that we are well and truly fucked.

I keep saying this but get rid of the dry rot now before the whole ship sinks. I’d sooner lose every game with players who are passionate and want to play than with the lukewarm rubbish currently infesting our first team.

Please Remi have a giant fire sale and try and put together a team that might be effective in the Championship. It can’t happen soon enough.

When Villa return to the top flight none of the staff or Directors named above will be associated with the club. That they will return is beyond doubt, it is simply the size of Birmingham which will inevitably force a decently staffed AVFC to the top of the Championship. It could be a few seasons while the current losers hang around hoping for redemption, but they won’t see it.

That is a rational thought, but I have one irrational hope to go with it. That Bodymoor Heath is sold and Villa buy somewhere else as a training ground. BMH is totally associated with every sort of misfortune including injury, fights and food poisoning. The club’s downward spiral began with training there – I think the place is cursed.

Worcester Warriors went the whole of last season without winning a game – Villa could well go the rest of this season in similar fashion. Not only is losing a habit when you add a very poor squad, disruptive players (N’Zog / Gabby?) and a manager with limited experience (and I’m not holding Garde responsible for the sh*t we’re in) then I honestly can’t see where another win is coming from.

As for next season then January will provide some pointers as to the players who might be prepared to join us – I would like to agree with OLL but sadly the world has changed and Villa are now firmly stuck in the past.

Just watched MOTD highlights, the first goal was just bad luck a standard long range shot deflicted. The second no way should defoe score at the near post very bad keeping.
And the third where to start Bacuna giving the ball away and then calimity Guzan should just clear the lines, but no he wanted to try a neat little pass.
That about sums up this season. we get back into the game and feel sorry for the other team so give them a couple of goals.
At no point can Garde be blamed for any of those goals.
    If I was him I would leave….

Just went through the Sunday morning ritual humiliation of watching MOTD. Bloody hell. This (Villa) reminded me of watching Sunderland a decade ago when their confidence was shot and it was just laughable. Like the players were pissed or something…Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Apart from our wonder goal.
I still maintain we have sone potentially great players on our books but when the club is in a hole, yr never going to get the best out of them. I also can’t subscribe to the fact that we brought in too many players over the summer. Watford brought in more and look how well they’re doing.
Problem: Club/ Owner. Owner/Club. One in the same.

We will go down, Lerner will then sell Grealish, Adama, Gill and anyone else he can get money for completely bleeding the club the dry. Then he will hang around for another season to so he gets all of the parachute payment. He will then complete a sale, obviously for less than he paid for it, bearing in mind how much he would of taken out, compared to what he has put in. By this time we will be in a similar league position to what we are now. Just my opinion of course.

On the plus side, Fox will announce there has been no major decrease on shirt sales.

There is clearly a divide in the dressing room between the newer signings from abroad and the so called Sherwood players (Grealish, Gabby, Richards etc) as you can tell there is no unity in this team. Just look at the lack of effort from Grealish yesterday as an example.
I cant help but feel Gabby is involved centrally in this, the fact some fans still suck up to him is startling. He is vermin in this team and that is putting it lightly (even when not playing). Id rip up his contract just to get him away from our youth players as I cannot think of a worse role model for them.
