There’s an old saying that says you make your own luck.
And the simple fact is we have none whatsoever.
Today summed up everything that says we’re going down and if anyone still believes it’s not true, well I’m afraid I can only say you’re deluded.
We were the better side for the first half hour until Sunderland scored from a long distance shot that got deflected leaving Guzan no chance.
Then we bought Traore on, who scared the crap out of their defenders and did well to set up Gil for the equaliser.
And then what happened?
Off he goes with yet another injury.
And then Defoe gets a chance where he only has one place to shoot (the near post) and Guzan doesn’t have it covered.
Shocking goalkeeping from a goalie whose confidence is shot.
Next up was a Sunderland corner, where it seemed we had 4 defenders near the corner flag trying to defend and no-one where it mattered, after some comical defending, resulting in Guzan again passing to one of our players only for him not to know it was coming and the opposition scored again.
I could go on about how the performance wasn’t too bad against another equally shocking side.
But what’s the point?
It ultimately boils down to the fact that if we can’t get a win against Sunderland, where do we see a single win coming from?
Wycombe up next in the cup isn’t it?
You just know they’ll want it more and I’m dreading it.
I have to hold my hands up here and say that if I was Lerner, I’d be looking very closely at what sort of players the manager wants to get in.
If any targets are aimed at Premier league survival, I’d say forget it.
This team needs dismantling, as too many of our squad just aren’t good enough for the Villa.
That said, I saw the look on Garde’s face a few times and it was pretty emotionless.
I suspect he knows what we are.
And it’s frankly rubbish.
May can’t come soon enough.
Did Kojak make any worthwhile contribution during his run out yesterday???
No but neither did anyone else
Robin Van Persie on loan from Fenerbahce. He isn’t happy in Turkey at this current time.
Ha ha RVP at villa are you on drugs. He would want at least £200k a week and would miss most if the season through injury plus he wouldn’t come anyway.
The only positive side to relegation would be if there was a consortium of real Villa fans with the money to make Lerner an offer to sell – at a much, much, lower price than he’d have got a year ago.
Surely there must be some true fans out there with enough financial clout/contacts to be able to get the project going and be ready to replace the current owner/board as soon as the final whistle goes on the 2015/16 season – time for them to stand up and save our club.
I know 3 that might, Cameron, Prince William , and Tom Hanks. Ardent they have the money.
Well, it depends on how Villa plan on doing things, because Khazri said he’d be willing to join us still, claiming we’re probably better than the 2nd or 3rd place France side still. Then there’s Doumbia who CSKA don’t want to buy back despite 11 goals and 5 assists in 20 games. So if they wanna continue pretending we can stay up, those 2 would be the perfect start.
You make it sound like…
Marthew: “Tonight, on Stars in their eyes we’ve got Aston Villa”, so who, Aston Villa, are you going to pretend to be tonight”?…
Aston Villa: “We’ll I’m Aston Villa and I’m pretending that I’m going to be in the Premier League next season, we’re selling a lot of shirts and we’re going again”.
Matthew: “Well you deluded twat, take it awayyyyyy…”!
I guess you can make it sound like that. But it pretty much is, do we pretend we can stay up still, which seems to be the case with the players and Garde, with Garde calling on us buying players to stay up, or do we not try, and go for players like Bamford who aren’t Premier League standard yet but can run the Championship.
Of course Garde and the players are going to say we can stay up, what would you think they’d say “yeah we’re doomed, we’ll start playing with a bit of passion now in the hope we find new clubs in the summer”?
Not at all, however you didn’t see much from Sunderland’s players coming out claiming they’ll stay up, much like ours have (before they beat us and came within 4 points of safety). Unless I missed them of course which is possible.
Was more thinking out loud on the types of players we’ll desperately need if they’re actually serious.
There’s no pressure now we should approach each game as if it’s a friendly get rid of the whole bk 4 and put the reserves in can’t be any worse
We won’t sign anyone this Jan and for once I agree it’s totally pointless and us too little to late. No half decent footballer in their right minds would come to us. I know a footballer in championship who is a huge villa fan and even he wouldn’t come to us at the moment. Says it all
No you don’t, as he’d instantly come to us.
No he wouldn’t we are not in for him anyway but if he were he wouldn’t as he could be playing in prem next season
We’re not in for anyone as it stands very quiet for a team in the SHITE,you would of thought we’d have someone at least by now but knowing us leave it til the last minute & pick up the dregs personally I couldn’t give a FUCK anymore.
We rarely sign anyone in Jan anyway. Even if we got Messi and Ronaldo we’d still go down nothing can save us now
“We’re not in for him”… Now you’re clutching at straws to insult Villa.
Giddy, it’s the 4th of January, it just became Monday. We just had a game this weekend. We’re not going to instantly sign players. Relax. Gotta give it time. lmao
Reportedly had scouts in Portugal for a Braga center back though.
Andrew, have you ever been to Villa Park or attended a Villa Game?
My thoughts exactly
Wasn’t aware it mattered, but seeing as I don’t live in England, no.
You can tell
I’m still not seeing the point? Oh it’s because I can think for myself instead of following what everyone else says without watching Villa, right?
@Andrew. It has nothing to do with you thinking for yourself, but on that subject well done. Not all Yanks can think for themselves, look at Lerner, Fox and Guzan.
The reason I asked is because you tend to see a lot more being at games than you do on TV or PC/Tablet. Given that your’e very “matter of fact” with your opinions I thought you went to games, didn’t realize you lived over there.
Don’t quite agree you see more when you go to games. Been to a lot of them with my local side here and it’s not better than seeing it on TV, as you’re far more distracted when you’re there.
Not only are we the worst team in the EPL we’re the worst in England.
Cheers Randy.

Holly shit thats bad, we need another trophy case now, that more expense.
From the first few games I seen Micah Richards play for villa I feel we were on trouble. Never looked right and for any player to be able to dictate their playing position and captaincy is shocking. I called it from the start of the season and as the season has went on I’ve grown to dislike him a lot. Thinks he’s a big fish in small pond, he is rubbish and is stealing a living. There are obvious reasons why city and roma let him go. Villa best defensive performances bar the fluke against man city have been when Richards. I wouldn’t play him at right back either. How come I can see this watching on TV but the clowns running Villa can’t. This is just one off the reasons we are failing miserably and things like this show how clueless and rotten the people in charge are. Villa will only return to acceptable levels when Randy and Co are gone and when proper football people are in charge. Sadly we don’t know when this will be. VTID.
Good post agree. We will be stuck with Lerner for years now and even in the unlikely event he did sell it would only be a business consortium run by suits who are in it for a quick buck with an exits tragedy. It’s pointless supporting the club now I really don’t care anymore
Heard a bit on radio 5, the club is completely soul less
So basing this on the probability that we’re playing Championship football next season who do you think will ‘realistically’ stay and go.
Think we should box clever for once and hold on to not necessarily the most gifted players, but those who have experience of the league and the more robust lower leagues. The likes of Gestede, Gardner, Bennett, Westwood and Baker could all be of some value. Promote some of the youth teamers… Hepburn-Murphy, Sellars, Donacien.
Then let the inevitable players go… Ayew, Veretout, Amavi, Richards, Traore. Starting to wonder if relegation release clauses are a cert. Then the so called surplus to requirements… Kozak, N’Zogbia (if we can shift him). Have a funny feeling Guzan may go due to International place/status.
On a crazy last ditch attempt to bridge the points gap a bid for Jordan Rhodes was mentioned. This might not be as daft as it sounds. Would be a big outlay, but he’s a decent goal scorer, partnered Gestede last season and could spearhead our Championship title bid next season (blind optimism I know).
Would like to know others thoughts. Bear in mind that I haven’t mentioned some under performers (Lescott, Hutton, Agbonlahor to name a few) just because of contracts and I don’t see us being able to sell them.
Football talk? What is this nonsense, you’re supposed to blindly insult Lerner…
Anyways, a good list and probably the ones that will be gone. Guzan will go, still a Premier League keeper but he’s a bottom half of the table one. Would like to see Siegrist promoted but can see Steer starting, or going for a new keeper under Garde.
I don’t think Richards will go, he’s a Villa fan after all, but possibly a Stoke City or if like Norwich stay up than maybe.
I can see us making all of our money back on the players we sell though, we still have the financial clout to do so.
Would prefer Bamford to Rhodes, don’t like him much and Bamford has a better upside. He’s not Premier League material yet but helping us get promoted could do that for him to get him better.
Lescott won’t go, again a Villa fan. Can see he and Richards still starting next season, though Okore and Clark would be much better. Possibly can see Okore going then.
Gabby will hopefully go in January, if not he’ll have to lower his wages or go in the summer. Too bad we didn’t keep Weimann as I think he could be the type of player who needs to partner Ayew right now.
Ayew will definitely go, as will Veretout and Traore. Amavi I don’t know if he’ll go due to injury, might think he owes us, but he’s definitely too good for the Championship. Guzan will go too, Gana’s up in the air if I think he’ll go.
Lescott and Richards won’t go because no one else would touch them with a barge pole. Especially Lescott if he was a horse he would be put out of his misery now!
Andrew, you spent the summer banging on about us bringing in fantastic talent from foreign leagues like Ligue 1. You seemed delighted with the players brought in and claimed they would be better than the overpriced British players available. Now we will be relegated and you are still claiming that you know what is best for the club.
You lost me completely when you said the MLS is a good league recently. I have lived in the US for 20 years and the quality in the MLS is piss poor. Portland Timbers won the MLS this season captained by Liam Ridgewell (ex-villa) who is going out on loan to a championship team (brighton I think) during the MLS closed season. Sums it all up nicely…
MLS is a glorified retirement home for ex premier footballers that give them their last big pay day before they go to football purgatory.
Did I say it was good? I don’t remember but maybe I did. It’s a growing league.
And guess who our current best players are? Veretout, Amavi and Ayew, and last I knew, they were foreign. And who keeps costing us points? Hutton, Richards and Lescott (and most wills say Guzan), and guess what, they’re not foreign (well Guzan is but he’s been in England long enough). They’re homegrown. So until my foreign theories proven wrong, I’ll continue spouting on how I know what’s best for the club. Seeing everyone has been claiming Traore and Gil should start every game, and Grealish has been mediocre. How Westwood’s garbage, yet it’s only the homegrown players getting bashed. So yes, I still believe what I said about going foreign is correct. Because our best players are foreign.
Rumours on twitter that Mervyn King is the new chairman
Another finance man; at least he’s a Villa fan!
Bill, he must know Prince Andrew and the PM – do you think he could persuade them to put their hands in their pockets and buy Lerner out! 🙂
Learners a villa fan makes no difference
I beg to differ OohAh (not on it makes no difference) but King is a real Villa fan unlike Lerner who pandered to the fans – if he was a real fan he would have sold ages ago when he realised what a balls up he was making of owning the club!
Lerner and King are businessmen first fans second. Gabby Richards and Lescott are villa fans and Richards won’t play right bk to help us out its a joke
Oohah its Lerner, He will never be a Learner,he’s a Yank.
So is Lescott and gabby ffs
Oops – deliberate mistake – Prince William 🙂 but Andrew can help out if he wants 🙂
The darts player from a few years back?
Mervyn King who helped caused the recession mismanaging the banks then having the audacity to say it was fun managing through the recession. What a knob jockey don’t want him near our club just another Lerner yes man who will make sod all difference
Not sure that’s accurate OohAh. I’m not sure the BoE were responsible for regulating the Banks – that was down to Brown’s mismanagement neither was the BoE responsible for the behaviour of the rating agencies! No doubt someone will put me right!
He still said it was fun times though
@H60
You’re right it wasn’t the Bank of England’s fault.
Dubya Bush – one of the moron child’s first acts was to remove legal safeguards on what financial products could legally be sold leading to sub-prime mortgages (AKA a total flim-flam crock of shit) that were bought and sold as though they had some value. Then someone saw that the Emperor had no clothes and the whole house of cards collapsed revealing the thefts and double dealing of the bankers, many of who should still be in jail.
Europe and the rest of the world then had to deal with the fall out as it revealed our own bankers shortcomings and double dealing.
Of course you could describe Mr. King as a banker and I can think of no worse insult.
(What do you call 10,000 bankers at the bottom of the sea? A bloody good idea!)
Thanks Pat – yep deregulation in the USA plus loan securitisation equals one unholy mess! I worry about saying this but I have a good friend who was head of global securitisation for a major European bank and formerly a Director with Barings when Leeson sank the ship without trace. He tells some hair raising stories about banking. I should hasten to add that IMHO he is (was – retired now) one of the good guys.
Correct Hitch. Blair and Brown massively removed safeguards between investment and domestic banking.
He’s a villa fan, is he not, our Mervyn.
Oohah what a proper geezer, an unparalleled knowledge of defenders and the art of defending and a true economic guru to boot.
All hail the mighty Oohah…
“We’re Not Worthy!”
“We’re Not Worthy!”
I’m not an expert in defending just my opinion
Would be good appt – has gravitas and would get a fan’s perspective across in the board room plus hard nosed businessman. Isn’t there also going to be another board member too? Hopefully a football person
Assuming we go down, In terms of a team for next year, with the mass expected mass exodus, I would like to see something like this:
Steer
New RB, Okore, Lescott/Baker, Bennett
Bacuna, Westwood, Veretout/Gardner, Grealish
Gestede, New Striker
Obviously, there are a few players that may end up staying for one reason or another, but this team on its own would be fairly solid.
Not a bad 11, and young enough it can only get better together. Be shocked if we have Veretout though. Also be surprised if we don’t play a midfield 3 in the Championship as well. If we go down, can see us trying for Bamford, Rhodes, Gray, Afobe or someone foreign. Dabbur, Lezcano, Spalvis, would all probably do well as well next to Gestede. Would prefer a Clark-Okore partnership again though.
A lot of strikers that can score in the Championship, but finding a talented RB will definitely be hard.
One think is certain we are going to need players who are physically strong with a massive work rate or we will go down again
Let’s hope we don’t end up with 11 Ashley Westwoods then!!
Any player at villa since 1 St sep 2015 can go and none will be missed overpaid underworked crap
Guzan is worst keeper in my lifetime 40 years a fan
Hutton Richardson Bennet same
Baker lescott same
Westwood zog crap
Gabby fan my arse money grabbing leech why Keane left wouldn’t put up with wankers like Gabby
Bacuna Richards Clark freakish Sinclair gana what let downs
Sell give them away start afresh
just seen robinson is going to PNE for rest of season and is out of contract in summer, does anyone know what they are doing down at the villa.
Apparently no one rates him at Villa and he’ll likely sign for Preston permanently on a free. Not surprising that.
Off topic I can’t stand Joey Barton but he is spot on here saying we are run by muppets couldn’t agree more! http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/joey-barton-aston-villa-club-10686438
I would like to think Villa could build a good side in the Championship but I do not think they have the essentials behind the scenes. I think we will be making a comeback from Div 1. Lerner has to go but I do not think he will with just the one relegation.
The critical thing we have lost – is a nucleus of good players, even if it was only 3 or 4, who tried their best all the time and had the fans 100% behind them. If you have that you can add on other whole-hearted players and at some point stabilise the club. The fans don’t like any of the current team except Amavi and Traore. One is out for the season, the other is injury prone. the rest clearly don’t care. So to my mind we start with a bunch of kids from the youth team who at least have some commitment and throw them in, obviously that means throwing all the current team out, but they are so damn bad it won’t matter. We might fail to survive in the Championship but we will eventually have a team the fans can get behind.
Needless to say the people who have any imput on what happens on the pitch need to be football people with a record of success. That means the boot for all those currently involved in this debacle.
Ayew is decent as well OLL and his work rate is impressive
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/doomed-aston-villa-lining-up-7122367
Christ help us if this is true…
That article isn’t no surprise to me we’re downsizing the club aswell as expectations, good one Randy.
Just gets worse doesn’t it?
Wish I could hibernate for the next six or seven years and come out at a time when we might have the chance of being a half decent team.
