Sunderland 0 – 4 Villa; Is that a misprint?

I feel really sorry for Sunderland’s fans.
Why?
Because that was the most inept and gutless performance against us that I can recall for a very long time.
And we thought we were in trouble, with the manager having to go, just a few weeks ago?
I’ll be very surprised if Gus Poyet hasn’t resigned by monday, as it was obvious to me that the players just don’t want to do it for him.
Still, it takes two teams to make a match and I’m not going to dwell on Sunderland’s woes, as we’ve had our fair share of the same, for far too long.

We did all that was required of us, in that we battled and won the balls where and when it mattered.
Bacuna and N’zogbia ran riot over Sunderland’s midfield, with Delph and even Cleverley just being far too good for the opposition today.
Frankly, that wasn’t difficult. When you see even Benteke getting time on the ball to play passes, you just know there’s something wrong.

The goals came so thick and fast that I can hardly remember them all.
1) Bacuna played a lovely ball in for benteke to sidefoot it home.
2) John O’Shea misjudged a long ball. Gabby got in behind him and cooly put it beyond Pantillimon. I’ll just call him Pants, because that’s what he was, today.
3) the ball comes in from the right and Gabby just drifts around two defenders who really didn’t seem to care, to fire home again.
4) Probably the most embarrassing of all. Bacuna floats one in and Benteke heads home so casually, it was frankly a joke.

4-0 up at half time then and the home fans had started to stream out before the interval.
The traditional season ticket and a scarf were thrown at the Sunderland bench and I just felt sorry.
Even worse, the fans booed the home side when they came back on. Which was just sad.
Fans of any club shouldn’t have to undergo what we saw today, in my opinion.

And just as you’d expect, we took our foot totally off the gas, which quite disappointed me, as I felt there were easily more goals to come.
Still, while it would have been nice to improve our goal difference further, there really was no need to kill ourselves. We’d done the job.
Although Sunderland did have a couple of chances.

The icing on the cake?
Hepburn-Murphy getting 10 minutes on the pitch.
What was Lambert thinking?

Oh, I nearly forgot.
Lambert wasn’t managing us was he?

And didn’t it show?

The Tim Sherwood show goes on and I’m loving it.

Dare I mention Europa league?

Am I the only one who no longer has that feeling of resignation to relegation?

Congratulations to Tim Sherwood. I am not a football tactician, but I do know you have motivated a group of players to win crucial matches. I am sure we will loose a few more this season and still pick up enough points to be in the Premiership next season.

    Now I am makes happy!

    Why?

The reason being, there is a nucleus of good players at the club, which Lambert managed to mismanage. Coupled to two / three new signings and the emergence of youth, I am hopeful of a steady improvement next year.

I even have enough optimism to believe we can beat Liverpool in the semi final of the FA Cup.

So, for the rest of tonight I am going to relax with a glass of wine and an elated feeling in my stomach.

Wow. Didn’t see or not heard anything about the game but to notch 4 with both strikers with a double with assists from the midfield…… That mid table finish and good cup run we wanted is coming true.

Watching from another part of the world and delighted to see us carve up the opposition today. Last game I attended at VP, was the 6:1 thrashing we gave them 2 seasons ago.

The only disappointment was sitting back in the second half: It would have been more satisfying if we’d continued to attack and got more because our poor goals ‘for’ needs correcting however far in front we are.

Don’t think anyone had a bad game. We didn’t really sit back in the 2nd half, but I don’t think the players wanted to concede, they just looked really comfortable, conserving energy. Disappointed not to see Gil instead of Weimann as well.

Murphy looked so nervous but the way he tried to take on Bridcutt was so positive in that you can tell Sherwood got in his head that he shouldn’t be that nervous, the fans will be 100% behind him no matter what he does.

It is a big game against Swansea next, you do see teams not care about results now when they’re safe, but Monk seems to have them playing well still and definitely does expect them to push on even with soon to be 9 games to go.

You have to feel empathy with Sunderland fans……or Any fans that are having to put up with stuff like we have had to….
Despite being “over the moon” during the 1st half I was more than slightly peed off at the end as we still stand on -19 GD and would have lost if a couple of their earliest efforts had gone in. I just have the feeling of “could have been much better”.
Listening to Tim,Beteke and Gabby they were just trying to keep a clean sheet but they did it more easily in the first half…..by attacking with penetration……..it was like the bad old days – getting up near the penalty area – slowly – then turning tail and going back……I was shouting to get some crosses in etc.
I know its all 10,000 times better than the bad old days but it could have all gone wrong -from our own making.
Did anyone see Sky pre match analysis (whatever its called) ..the four “experts” called the match thus…..0-0…0-0…1-0…0-0…..laughing as they did…..not a lot said about us before either…….Merson you are a disgrace “ALL DAY LONG”…he he he.

We’re looking like a bargain now IMHO.

I do feel for Sunderland though. Over two years of crap football have given me some empathy however I fear they’re for the drop. Burnley’s still trying and to be honest I would prefer they stayed up as they really try to play football.

And they are claret and blue after all.

Great win, made my morning waking up to this, but what made it even greater was the amount I was paid out for the win. Along with the fact my multi bet of Middlesborough and Frankfurt to win also came out. Im one happy Aussie guy.

Great win and an excellent first half performance. Sunderland were poor, but Villa played some really nice stuff. Most attacking football I have seen in a long time.

Next game will be interesting as I dont think you can have 4 attacking players against Swansea. I think Sinclair will have to drop out with Hutton slotting back in at RB and Bacuna pushing up.

Great to see the 16 year old come on today, but I am a bit gutted for Gil who seems to be frozen out. I hope this is only temporary, as the lad is class.

Benno, TS sort of hinted that Gil would come into contention more when the team are not having to ‘scrap and fight’ to get themselves up the table. I can’t see Gil as doing a lot of tracking back. It’s something I have noticed over the last couple of games with NZog, Gabby and Sinclair all tracking back and helping the defence. NZog in particular looks a different player under TS. A word in support of Bacuna who was involved in two of the goals and looks a really good player – why he hasn’t been playing this season is a mystery but then much of what Lambert did was a mystery.

Agreed on Bacuna, he is a quality player and we are only seeing the start of this lad in my opinion. Have called for him all season, he had some quality moments previous. Lambert was a joke and became more and more conservative. TS has reinstalled confidence in players to show what they are made of and attack. Hence our attacking players, Bacuna, Nzogbia, Gaby, Sinclair and even Cleverly starting to look much better. It was all Lambert. Glad he is gone. I have always said we have a decent squad, so prove me right and make the FA Cup final and finish with a flurry of wins.

Morning all, you have to admit Lambert not only caused bewilderment at Villa park on picking teams, but he almost ruined player’s lives, NZog showing wanting, Benteke and Abonglahor now getting goals, and now young players having a chance to play in first team games, what a turn round from last month.you can defiantly see a better playing squad ,and players believing in themselves again. I keep watching motd and pinching myself to see if I’m dreaming.

Morning Bill. It’s odd isn’t it. How can you get a squad ticking like that? Lambert was a car crash from the off. I will never ever understand why he stayed so long. TS could have been excused for not keeping us but he’s really changed the mentality of the side in such a short time. Incredible really…The entire squad look like different players.

Oh and meant to add – what a different player Delph looks. Now prepared to drive at the opposition rather than turning backwards all the time. How many shots did he have on Saturday – I reckon 3 or 4 and all decent efforts.

Which proves the players are just as responsible as the manager. Benteke still had decent chances before Sherwood and missed them not Lamberts fault. We all no that a new manager can give a team a lift no matter who it is. The big test is when we play a decent team and can Sherwood do this in the medium to long term I have my doubts but we shall see.
