Well, the whole theme of this was going to be about how poor we are.
But we did look pretty good for a while, a period which started with Bacuna hitting the post, with Ayew scoring from a decent shot, albeit it was deflected.
Unfortunately that period only lasted five minutes, so the general theme still stands.
You mention any negative you like and we demonstrated it tonight.
We lacked creativity, we lacked guile, we lacked craft, we lacked dynamism, we lacked skill, we lacked desire, we lacked quality, we lacked direction and most importantly we lacked confidence.
Fair enough, you could probably leave Ayew out of that, as he looked pretty good, but overall the rest of it was so poor I just had the feeling that we’re going down this season.
For once I got the score right so it wasn’t entirely unexpected, but it was the nature of the performance that disappointed me and we frankly look a team in disarray.
I didn’t really want to talk about Remi Garde, as I was hoping to write something about him tomorrow, but I’m afraid I’ll be amazed if he can turn this team around.
I think the one thing that worried me about his appointment, even more than having no Premier league experience, is the fact that he has no experience in dragging a squad by the scruff of it’s neck and changing it’s mentality; something I think that’s needed.
The Sky pundits are suggesting we looked better in the second half, but when you consider we were truly awful in the first half, it’s really not saying much.
I think we’re doomed and I just hope that Lerner and Fox appointed Garde with a view to getting us promoted.
On that performance I don’t think we have a hope in hell of staying up.
I’m sorry lads, but I really feel that was as bad a performance as I’ve seen in ages.
it was’nt bad it was crap utter crap
Your love child Sanchez played well I thought
i agree, but you cant play westy and Sanchez together, grealish is a luxury we cant afford at the moment, there were times in the first half we had three i’m to good to defend players standing on the half way line doing jack shit
It was pretty poor apart from the few minutes either side of the goal. Maybe it is time to give Grealish a rest and use him as a substitute for a while. Gil looked good when he come on, as did Ayew. Sinclair was positive throughout.
I got the impression that spurs could just score when they wanted tonight, they played within themselves, expended little energy, test for their bigger games later in the week.
I think Villa’s only hope is that three from Sunderland, Bournemouth, Newcastle or Norwich end up worse off than Villa.
We will have a good run somewhere, but I can’t see it starting next week versus City!
As for Garde…tonight he looked like a man who had just bought a racehorse off eBay…and when it came it only had three legs, was blind and had no teeth.
Good luck to him,he’ll need it.
When we go down, Lerner should hand the club to the fans and fuck off back to America. He came with a dream and it’s now turned into a nightmare. We will be screaming for Garde’s head come the end of the season. If however he manages to keep this team up (highly unlikely) I recon he could go on to be our most successful manager in decades. Anyone that can get that team to avoid relegation must surely be a miracle worker.
If he keeps us up he will be favourite for Arsenal job when Wenger goes
thats the spirit!
Its not over yet, at least tonight showed Garde the utter shit that was being picked by Sherwood and now Mcdonald (who IMO should be dismissed for the last 2 matches, we need to cut these losers out the squad)
Gabby Richardson and Lescott should be sent permenantly to the reserves, meanwhile Sanchez and Clark need to be dropped.
From now on Gil and Ayew must start every game and Kozak, Okore, Veretout, Gueye, Amavi and Senderos must be brought back to the starting line up.
If Ilori and Gardner are fit give the a chance also, but under no circumstances should the likes of Gabby or Richardson EVER be picked again.
Where is Traore – anyone – ??
IV keep forgetting about him now looks like another mercenary dud
Senderos got left out of the 25 man squad, can’t play. Sanchez shouldn’t be dropped either. Does well next to Gana.
We have to remember we played Spurs today who I believe have out run their opposition in every game except for one. There is plenty of time to turn things around.
I’m going to be more optimistic and say that Remi Garde will help to stop the rot and start getting some points on the board. I am quite excited about his appointment.
Although we were overall terrible tonight there was a small glimpse of fight in the team. This happend when Gil came on, and we saw him, Ayew and Gestede actually trying to make a difference. This resulted in a period of play where Spurs were on the back foot and led to a goal by Ayew. Yes it was short lived and before long it was business as usual for Spurs, but the fight was there.
I think there are some decent players in the squad, none of which started the game tonight, but I think Garde has the raw materials to shape a team from what we have. Gil looked good and Ayew is building in confidence. I now want to see what our new manager can do with these guys and are other summer signings.
Viva le Revolution. UTV
Nous ne serons pas relégués!
Sorry but I really don’t buy the ‘utter crap’ comments. Certain players were bad but we were at 2-1 and with a little more composure might have at least gotten a draw.
Spurs have outplayed most teams as Southampton did against Bournemouth on Sunday. We pushed Southampton close, unfortunately Spurs not as close as I would have liked.
Still optimistic. McD didn’t pick the right players or the right system but then again he’s McD isn’t he so what do you expect? Hopefully Garde will have a little more nous.
Don’t judge the team by this performance. If the only thing Garde does is drop Guzan, Gabby, Richardson and Lescott he’ll improve the team immeasurably. Honestly think the game against Man City might be closer than some might think.
UTV
I think the city game will be a cricket score. I wouldn’t be surprised if they put eight to ten past us. This team is rotten to the core. Concedes to many early and late goals again and again and do fuck all in between. We are truly kidding ourselves if we think we are going to get out of it this time. Unless we have 20 points by the new year which I truly doubt will happen. Results against the big boys is what saved us last year. We couldn’t even get a point against the worst Chelsea team in years
Disagree they don’t thrash anyone without augero and silva. They will win because our defence keeps making mistakes because they are shit
Bottom line is performance didn’t keep u up only goals do. We still keep losing.
I’m with you Pat. I have to believe that there is something to build on.
Did you watch Soton v Bournemouth?? Bournemouth were all over them 2nd half so Id hardly call that “outplayed”
http://7500toholte.sbnation.com/wasted-corners/2015/11/2/9660924/Gabby-Agbonlahor-performance-analysis-Aston-villa-spurs
Bloody hell. I though the guys at Sky were joking. That’s it for Gabby then…
I really wouldn’t bank on it.
I’ve suggested before that Lerner is ordering the managers to play Gabby.
It’s the only reason I can see that he consistently gets a game.
I knew he wasn’t doing much in that first half but wow – that is awful.
to be honest guys I am as worried as any on here, I think it suddenly sunk in about 10 mins before the kick off at Swansea. Villa are for the drop this year.
that being said, There is no way that squad is as bad as they appear to play.
They are a better squad. I need only remind myself of how bad Leicester were before they just blitzkrieged the sh..t out of the premiership and are still doing it.
even a player like Gabby can be of use for us. that is not a defence of him or any of the teams performances this season. Its simply players are human and suffer from confidence, habits and psychology.
The question is – Can Garde change that? Honestly I don’t know. He will have to prove it obviously. But as an unsure as I am of our chances this year. You cannot rule out the possibility that he (Garde) has, and that we can.
buckle up.
I don’t think he has the players. Defence is a shambles u can be the best manager in the world but if defence keeps making mistakes there’s nothing u can do. Lescott is a disaster for the.club.
As downbeat as I am at the moment, I can somewhat console myself when I look at the league table.
The immediate clubs above us are only 2, 3, 4 and 5 points better off.
If that doesn’t change too much in the next couple of weeks, the situation is not entirely lost.
We just need to turn things and start getting some points.
In other news, The telegraph (who I think have been on the ball lately) are reporting that a Geneva based fund outfit held talks for a possible takeover in the summer.
They’re trying to find alternative funding;
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/banksandfinance/11971191/Aston-Villa-holds-talks-with-Swiss-investor-over-sale-of-club.html
Interesting Badger though do we want these people they are reliant on a bank so hardly going to have money to invest in players. If we go down Lerner they would get us on the cheap anyway.
I’m not keen on the idea of Hedge funds, Venture Capital or Investment banks owning us at all. They’re purely in it for the money.
But the word “Investment” says it all and I’d expect them to at least put in a reasonable sum, that is better than the puny amounts we’ve seen lately.
And it might even be better than the Lerner trying his best to come across as a nice bloke bollocks.
At least we’d know for sure what they’re all about and frankly I don’t think they could be much worse.
It’s interesting to note that the article said the deal was for less than the touted £150 mill.
I’d love to know what Lerner could really sell the club for.
You know I believe the books have been (legally) fiddled to bits and I’d guess it’s nearer £100 mill.
hmm Swiss based, who’s that sepp blatter and associates he’s doing nothing at the moment
Agbonlahor is woeful. Gestede isnt exactly mobile, but at least he puts himself about and is a nuisance. The only striker that deserves to start is Ayew and yet he finds himself on the bench.
I hope Garde makes swift changes to our starting line up and we can kick start our season. Too many players have been underachieving for a long time.
IMO in Jan, we need to buy a quality keeper and a proper goalscorer. Other players such as a RB and another CB would be nice, but unlikely.
I just read this on the Birmingham mail site, WTF is going on? Fatigued…and yet Gabby is fit to start?? Kev Mac needs to be given his p45.
http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/idrissa-gana-adama-traore-reason-10376399
GH wasn’t a big fan of shabby hopefully he’s had a little word in gardes shell like about him.If Richards is banned surely there not going to leave the club captain on the bench are they????just a thought
Not many on here saying much on Grealish input,? he was lost and we have to face the fact to lightweight , Westwood, Grealish, Lescott, Abonglahor, all dead wood to Villa, Sinclair was the best player beyond a doubt, Gil game changer,he spread the ball about more, we do have some players that will make a team, what we don’t have is leadership and confidence, I hope Garde can put that right.
I thought Grealish was awful. I actually thought Lescott was OK yesterday, and kept Kane quiet until we got caught out at the end. I don’t understand anyone slagging Sanchez off. He ran himself into the ground.
We need a massive improvement. I can’t see Garde playing Agbonlahor in front of Ayew on last night’s performance, let alone what he is going to see on the training ground.
I would like to see Veretout get some more game time too. Gil played very well when he came on but we need to get the balance right. I’m not sure what our best team is, but it sure as hell isn’t the one McDonald started with.
Agree with BP regarding Sinclair – I thought he did quite well, despite at times looking for support that wasn’t quite in the right place at the right time.
Grealish is starting to look like another over-hyped academy product who only ‘works’ when the rest of the team are performing well.
Hello…my English is no GOOD,I will help this ENGLISH football team from far away with my miracle.Just wait and see…..For me,English Football Team are the best in the world. No one should have No Confidence, just wait and see….do not forget me in my email,I will lead ASTON VILLA from now…..
Gil did good, so did Ayew really. two positives in my mind.
Just an easy game against City to get us on the road to recovery.
On the plus side surely season tickets are cheaper in the championship….
Here we go with yet another experiment by Randy and his cronies to go along with the young, hungry and what ever other bulls**** they’ve dressed it up as down the years (but the reality of it appears to be spend f*** all but -keep- the- SKY -money -rolling- in -PLAN A).
And now we have this latest model, the ‘European model’ with a young up and coming European manager at the helm and who knows he may just be just what the doctor ordered but given Randy’s track record I’d suggest the odds are stacked against it.
Now reports have it that our (in)glorious leader could be selling to IM 1872 a Geneva-based investment management firm.
Well that’s just peachy, Randy’s parting gift to us, his ‘piece de resistance’, to sell us to appears to be another Sisu and relegation all wrapped up together in one neat little bundle, could it get any worse?
Thanks Randy your custodianship of our once great club truly has been something to behold.
It seems the Daily Mail agrees with you BWS.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3301509/Remi-Garde-huge-gamble-Aston-Villa-owner-Randy-Lerner-CV-shows-no-signs-need-right-now.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490
It’s not meant as a pop at Remi Gardi (or Remy as OS posted it, can they get anything right?) I whole heartedly hope he’s the second coming, the new sir Ron but just to many false dawns for me, I’ve lost all faith in Randy’s stewardship.
Can’t wait for his autobiography – ‘The Sadim touch.’
I think he is an excellent manager my only concern is whether it’s too little too late imo Sherwood should have gone on the summer and I think we would be comfortable top ten now. Defensively the players are not there no manager can improve Lescott he’s finished. I don’t think he will make much difference to our defence but will going forward. He will have probably build from the front he has no choice and work on simply out scoring the opposition as we will only get a couple of clean sheets.
BWS,
I didn’t see it as a pop at Garde.
Fwiw, I think he looks a decent manager too, but I’m not at all convinced he’s what’s needed in our current situation.
And to be frank, I’ve read stuff about Garde that has me worried. In one cup run, Lyon scored 2 goals in 5 games and then miraculously scored 7 in one game, that the oppo asked to be investigated.
Then there was a piece where Lyon went through a run of games with the team conceding via stupid defensive errors. Sound familiar?
And finally the word is that Remi left Lyon because he didn’t like the transfer policy.
All this concerns me mate.
As I previously hinted, I wonder if we’ve got him in with an eye at getting us back up, more than preventing us going down?
Who knows Badger we might be the answer to all our prayers but if we go down (which seems more likely than not) what does the fella know about the cut and thrust and physicality of the Championship?
Worrying times mate and with this here possible sale the fear I have is we become a possible Coventry City FC (MKII).
Lerner and the board. We can see through you:
http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/arsenal/champions-league/feature/in-off-the-post-the-sam-matterface-column_255573.html#$$nx8iie&&6K4ebIIVEeWOUBKp/GPoWQ$$
This is simply embarrassing, Gabby should have played his last game in claret and blue on the back of last nights dire showing he was just so shockingly shite it’s beyond words and all this I want to spend all my career at VP. I bet he does, who else would want him?
http://www.breakingnews.ie/sport/soccer/watch-mnf-lads-get-the-giggles-over-agbonlahors-terrible-performance-703727.html
Now c’mon BWS; Kevin Mac says that our esteemed captain was suffering from a calf injury – that surely explains everything?
[Personally I agree with Benno above – both of them should be picking up their P45’s from Villa Park this morning]
AV if big Kev Mac says our star forward was below par (just what is par for Gabby?) then that’s good enough for me and I therefore retract my previous comment. Not!
Kev also says that Gana and Traore are ‘fatigued’ and have ‘lost their sparkle in training’.
Probably sick of training but then being left out of squads in favour of older players who keep performing like crap but are always first on the team sheet…
I bet Gabby’s a joy to behold in training with that silky touch and that fine footballing brain,Idrissa, Adama and young Jack must be in awe of him.
Yeah, I can imagine it now: Shabby and Lescott giving the youngsters master-classes in ‘how to be premier league footballers..’
“Uncle Kev” standing on the side-lines with a warm smile of approval on his face.
All sweetness and light at Bodymoor…
They should change the name of BMH to the Lost Horizon.
I suspect it’s more like some of the squad have kicked off, big time.
A major divide in the camp would explain a lot.
But that is just speculation on my part.
Rumours of one well know forward that had 6 touches last night allegedly chinning Keane and then Uncle Fester.
It can’t be everyone else all the time can it?
