S’hampton 2-3 Villa; Get in!

What a result!
I’m quite simply buzzing my proverbials off, having watched that.
We had 3 chances on target and 23% of the possession, according to the stream I watched.
And we still came away with the win.
Go figure that one.

I’ll update this shortly, but this to me, has to be close to the steal of the century.
Totally chuffed to bits!

That’s what I thought after mourinho he’s got to be the jammiest manager ever

    2. And whats wrong with being lucky?…..the more luck we get, the better! And do you recall the saints ‘non penalty’ at VP last season?
      More luck please!

    3. What is it Napoleon said? “Give me lucky generals,”

      1. BWS……dont recall that mate, but then again, I’m only 63 🙂

  2. Take my hat off to the team, well done, just got sky on and then BBC , well well pleased.

Great 3 points first of all but I really don’t understand this team. 23% possession, we spend the entire game watching Guzan hoof the ball to Kozak/ Benteke and we could barely string more than a couple of passes together. Yet, we’ve come away with the win.
Not sure what to think tbh, we’re clearly better at grinding out results this season and its the points the matter, thats twice this season we’ve won 3-2 when we’ve been second best all game.

  4. First home defeat to Saints, so our win speaks volume. Not nice but effective. But would wish we can grow in confidence and play at a higher level in terms of quality. Guzan absolutely great, Vlaar important and midfielders who are scoring. Gabby´s goal was a cracker. Showed in this situation how much he has improved.

I’ve always supported Lamberk and Lerner it’s time for all the other negative lemmings on here to show the same support as I do.

  6. Great win against a very strong team. I think besides the stats whats most important is that these young lads never give in. Coming here and being under so much pressure and having no possession and to still keep trying to make chances is very pleasing. Fair play to the boys, in a way it was deserved by the way we defended and never say die attitude. Roll on Fulham and three points.
Congrats to my man Delph too, hopefully he will be doing that at Wembley soon!

  7. Great goal by Delph!

It was but I preferred gabby iv never seen him show that sort of composure before something that has always been lacking in his game.

So chuffed, had written this one off beforehand but we managed one of the most unlikely victories. Stats means nothing. Absolutely buzzing…UTV!

  9. i don’t
know what to make of benteke he has wondered round the pitch not looking interested for weeks now as soon as there was a bit of a ruck on at the end the fastest he has moved since his injury at least something still matters to him

I’m glad we won this game without relying on Benteke big bollocks. Hopefully it will take him down a peg or two and make him think twice about going. If he gets dropped for not scoring for us in 7 games then he will find it tougher at a sky 4 team where just one bad game without scoring void see u dropped for weeks

      1. Sir Earl Barratt avatar
        Sir Earl Barratt

The only thing about him being taken down a peg or two is that his value goes down a peg or two for his inevitable departure. He hasn’t scored in months now and hasn’t looked bothered. For me that’s where Lamberk needs to earn his dough. He doesn’t strike me as a man motivator but you never know.

I can barely type the words, but I’m praying Vlaar will be back in a couple of days because we looked as vulnerable as a stag in a Tiger cage when he went off.

IF we beat Fulham then bloody hell we will be 12 POINTS clear of the relegation zone in the first week of December..

Who would’ve thought that could be the case…………

  11. yyeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaahhsssss, wwooooo ,fookin buzzin ,belief and commitment won us that match .PREPARED OHH YES.

  12. I cannot believe we actaully won that game, we hardly touched the ball. 3 shots, 3 goals! Unbelievable luck.

    Cracking winner by Delph!

You could analyze why Villa only had 25% possession, but whats the point, we won against a very good side, we’ll take it!

  13. Well happy i really hope vlaars ok as we need him.utv

  14. Still buzzing…coyl

  15. What a goal by Gaby, what a goal by Delph. Add that to Bacuna’s goals and Villa players are putting in some cracking finishes this season. All it takes is one chance, one shot.

But I find this interesting, This is where Villa place purely on Away games.

    1. Arsenal W5 D1 L1 +9 16Pts
    2. Tottenham W4 D1 L2 -2 13Pts
    3. Aston Villa W3 D3 L1 +3 12Pts
    4. Everton W3 D3 L1 +2 12Pts

Of course on the other end of the scale is Villa at home and this is where we sit..

    16th West Ham W2 D1 L4 -2 7Pts
    17th Aston Villa W2 D1 L4 -3 7Pts
    18th Crystal Palace W2 D1 L4 -5 7pts
    19th Sunderland W2 D0 L5 -5 6Pts

Any Villa fan should be happy enough (enough being the key word) with where we sit on the table at the moment, it is clearly an improvement. However Fulham is a MUST WIN for me. If we can improve our game at home and continue our impressive away form watch Villa rise up that table. I know this showed no more than we all knew but it is interesting when actually compared to other clubs and in which position we sit as a home and away club.

There was a terrible 94 mins I’ll never get back, but an exquisite 3mins which makes it all worth it.
Saints were woeful at the back and we punished them, fair play.

The boys were taught a passing lesson which I hope they go home and learn from and put into their own game………….

2 fantastic finishes, a great cross for Kozacs and we have Brad Guzan, arguably the leagues best shot stopper..!!! Hope the concrete one is ok because we missed him!!

  17. Agreed darren 3pts sunday deffo.UTV

  18. I was wondering what stage of the game did he change Benteke for Kozac ? and what contribution did he put in at the time he was given , from what I had seen Kozac was playing OK, still trying to get my head around 77% and 23% and we won. They do say its goals that count, in our case it did.

  19. Randy and Lambert…..so proud of your young, hungry team. Could yet make the CL

  20. Fuck me oohah….are you pissed?

    1. Langford of course it’s not ooha mate it’s the imposter check the picture by the comment see top of the page that’s the real ooha.

  21. Bill – Benteke was on straight after Kozak’s goal at 66 minutes or so. From what I could tell the weak link in the second half was Lowton in for Vlaar but I’ll need to watch the highlights a few more times(!). Can’t blame Lowton though Donacian might have been a better choice for the bench since we were playing all three of our main central defenders. Both their goals seemed to come in where Vlaar would have been. Benteke had a couple of good goes but didn’t really get hold of the ball and when he did take a touch too many and was crowded off the ball in the box he went down. Nice try but I don’t think it was fooling anyone.
The long ball hoof to Kozak/Gabby/Benteke to not win was really depressing. Whenever Saints kicked a ball long there was usually someone in the right place for the ball to be headed to, it’s as if Benteke/Gabby/Andi/Kozak need to spend a few weeks practicing bringing down long balls. Saints always had someone getting into position to receive knocked on long balls and it seemed always directly up pitch and the same distance. Maybe Guzan needs to shorten his range and get it so there are a couple more choices for Benteke or Kozak to try to head to? We’re back to using the midfield as forward defenders again. I’ve noticed that when Guzan kicks short to a defender he usually gets it back because the midfield aren’t coming to collect the ball or making themselves enough space to receive it and our man is quickly closed down so kicks back to Guzan to hoof to the front line.
Our defence has come on in leaps and bounds since last year and now they’ve been made to get this good by constant action the midfield needs more work, I think we have a pretty good strike force. El Ahmadi didn’t do much at all (why no Sylla?) apart from losing the ball, getting it back and crossing (the important word here – crossing) it in perfectly for Kozak to loom above the defenders and head it in. I’m not sure how many good crosses in I saw, maybe just that one. I really like Delph and while El Ahmadi has started to play well I’d be looking to get Sylla in more or go for two more midfielders. They’ve both had their chances, haven’t they?
I have a feeling Saints were expecting a 4-3-3 and the 5-3-2 worked really well against their rampant forward line. Everyone now knows Guzan will punt the ball long so they crowd Benteke and Kozak off the ball. Surely the next tactical surprise to pull must be to start passing the ball out and up the field? Vlaar for a start is bloody good at passing and if we can get the midfield interested then we might get Benteke more interested too. That or get Steer in for a while, his long balls in pre-season seemed to be incredibly accurate.
A couple of excellent comments overheard in the midst of a crowd of Saints fans on the way out “F**king Agbonlahor” and my favourite, “why did they have to go and ruin it with five f**king defenders”

    1. Nice assumption foxy of the game, yes did see Lowton half hearted with his jump to the ball, and drop his head down as the ball hit the net, I said at the time to myself shit going to miss Vlaar hope its not serious, as for the fans they have always had no like to people past Newbury going north. Still had a worth while trip to st Mary, thanks foxy.

  22. Giddy its Langford. Our mate.
