Senderos injured

I’m not a huge fan of the international break. As the years have gone by, i’ve enjoyed watching England play less and less, especially when it interupts the glory of the premier league.

It would be no surprise to hear that I am unhappy with the news that Senderos is going to be sidelined for a few weeks due to an injury he picked up during the Swiss loss earlier in the week. This is bad news for a team that is finding it’s footings with a new looking defence, especially since Vlaar has been out as well; it’s all al ittle too shakey. The good news is that Vlaar is due back on the pitch! So we have a silver lining to look at.

There have been comments and alot of discussion over the maturity Baker has showed in recent weeks, and it is all much deserved. There was always the question of whether it would be right to drop him and resume the original centre back combo of Vlaar and Senderos, with some being vocal about Baker earning his right to replace Senderos. Well this is the chance and perhaps a blessing in disguise.

Although it isn’t good news that we are suffering injuries yet again in our defensive positions. This could prove a valuable moment in Bakers career and hopefully we will see the rise of a great CB pairing. It looks even stronger knowing that we have Senderos ready on the bench and the potential of what Okore could offer the squad is still an exciting prospect.

Choice of players and compitition for places is vital. Now to have some stiff competition in that left back role…

How long will Villa’s appalling luck with injuries continue? It’s all well saying that Baker (or Okore) can step into the breach but what any team needs (and particularly in defence) is a run without continual chopping and changing so the players can develop an umderstanding and improve as a unit. That’s in no way a criticism of Baker who I think is developing into a really good CB.

“The glory of the Premier league”??? Have u been a Chelsea, a ManU or Citeh fan these past few seasons? It’s nothing but a closed shop whilst the rest of us fight over the crumbs…The Premier League has killed our national team with so many foreign players, as goos as so many may be.

You say it like our national team was fantastic in the 90’s and before that. We had some decent players but not a fantastic team.

The premier league is great. Just because I support a team that lacks season after season, it doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy the rest of the competition. It’s entertaining. Or would you rather the dismal performance our nation team offers up every time?

Mr Cheese, that goes without saying my friend, a true supporter follows his team and colours where ever, but you have the right to voice your discontent when ever you want, Villa has problems, we pay to see, we expect to move forwards, same with our national team, we lost the right years ago with foreign imports, gone are the days you and I will see a football team winning honours.

Italia 90 and Euro 96 not good teams??? That performance against the Dutch in 96 was probably the finest England performance I’ve ever witnessed.
The EPL great? I don’t think so. You like your stats so have a look at how many different teams won the league before 1980 (when teams had to share the home gate money) and then look how it drops again to 5 teams in 22 years since the start of the EPL in 92.
No it’s not great it’s shite, a monopoly with 5/6 teams dominating and rest mere Premier League fodder simply there to make up the numbers.
A competition? And on what level do the other 14 compete?

I agree. There should be more enthesis and money put into English players because it is good for our league and national team. No arguments there.

The England school hasn’t been good in a while and this is where your take on stats comes in. On paper we look a force to be reckoned with, but in real life we struggle to score and even make passes.

I can’t argue with the pl money either which also shows how flawed the fair spending system is, but surely if the shoe was on our foot and we had 100’s of millions pumped into our team, we wouldn’t complain. It just makes the wins even sweeter(if rarer) when they occur. BWS we are on the same page and the same team. I just prefer prem over international. You ave however skipped over the main headline of the article 🙂

            Sidetracked Mr C
Just what is this with the curse of the Villa centre halfs?
Okeore hardly kicked a ball in anger last year before his cruciate went.
Vlaar well he’s been injury prone his whole career. He made a grand total of 132 appearances for Feyenoord between 2006–2012, whats that work out to? 23 a season.
Baker, he seems to get injured quite easily in games needs a bit more of the Terry Butcher attitude.
Now Senderos so it looks like we’re back with Clarke and Baker…Ho dear.

Fully agree with the sentiments re the international break. The vast majority of qualifying games are totally pointless. Platini’s argument that all teams should be allowed to participate is valid in so far as our FA says the same about the FA cup. However, our FA cup has rounds of preliminary games to stop the kind of nonsense we’re seeing this weekend.

In regards to Baker he will only progress if he is paired with someone like senderos or Vlaar. Think back to Curtis Davis. When alongside either mellberg or Laursen he was ok, when thrown in with Zat Knight it was mostly comedy. Vlaar annoys me personally, he was poor in his first season and hasn’t played enough games since. No idea why okore can’t get in an injury ravaged defence so I can only assume that PL and RK aren’t seeing anything in training or reserve games. Seeing that dave beasant was named as a sub yesterday at the tender age of 55, has anyone still got Shaun Teale’s number for next week?

As much as I hate it, the friendliest and dull qualifiers are needed in order to get the team to gel and selection right.

All FA cup teams pay season in, season out.

I can’t agree. Does your boss get you to meet outside of your main job to gel or do you just have to get on with it? Arguably, England’s two most successful tournaments have been on home soil where they didn’t need to qualify. What will England gain now from that group? The win against the Swiss away almost guarantees them into France. I hate the international break and the Senderos injury does little to persuade me to the contrary. Blatter and Platini are two cheeks of the same backside as far as I’m concerned. I welcome anyone to read George Orwell’s Animal Farm to demonstrate what goes on at FIFA and EUFA.

    England = totally mediocre, imo.
Delph plays for them, which says it all.
While he’s decent and still learning (and I really like him!), there’s no way he would have got into an England team of 20 years ago.
Mind you, I could probably say that about all of them.

The thought that Rooney might become our highest scorer ever… just wow…
    Even though he scored today.

Actually I don’t really care a tinker’s curse about England and the International break but I do care about our players gettig injured (or being ‘tapped up’) playing senseless European qualifying games agianst teams like San Marino etc. I thought this post was about discussing the impact of Senderos’ injury on our CB pairing and the impact it might have on our next game(s) – but then again perhaps I’m just being naive! For a number of years watching England has, to me, seemed just like watching Villa. You hope for a good performance despite the fact that the last 10 games they were ordinary to shite.

I missed today’s game but only because I couldn’t be arsed to check kick off time. Rooney is a fat useless wanker who shouldn’t ever be mentioned in the same sentence as Messi and Ronaldo and world class. Except when that sentence is “Messi and Ronaldo are world class unlike that fat, useless, wannabe Wayne Rooney”.

    Anyway, UTV.

As someone said earlier the pundits will have a wankfeast over the freekick (that was shite incidentally and that any a half decent would and should have saved) but they did the same with his ‘shinned’ over head kick against Man city the jammy b*****d.
