Rotherham – Villa: Another 3 points?

I was going to write a post asking whether we should re-sign Alan Hutton, as I thought it would be an interesting question.
Things have overtaken me though and it’s now a done deal, as he’s taken the one year extension that was written into his contract.
Quelle surprise!
Where else is he going to get around £50k a week?
It’s yet another poor deal on the club’s part, even though I’d have kept him at lesser money.
I suspect we’ll still be seeing this sort of stuff in 3-5 years time, but I guess that’s what it takes to sign the players we want.

Anyway, I wanted to make the headline “a guaranteed 3 points”, but a) I don’t want to be seen as taking the proverbial out of a struggling side and b) we can’t guarantee anything.

But seriously, if there’s a team out there to be beaten, it surely has to be Rotherham.
Every way you look at it they’re poor I’m afraid and they’re quite simply going down.
I don’t like to say that, but that’s how it is.

So I’m quite confidently predicting 3 points then.
Oooh! That’s dangerous.

Squad wise, young Green’s hammy has put him out for around a month. I’m gutted about that, as my opinion says he’s a much better bet than Grealish.
Gardner’s out for a while too, which is another shame, as I reckon this is a game where he’d have been able to gain some confidence.
And Bacuna’s ban has been extended to six matches. Really?
Blimey, can someone tell me what Cantona got for actually assaulting a fan?
While I totally agree that you can’t touch the officials…. yada yada.

So the team will be pretty much what we all expect and Bruce isn’t going to change it up from the obvious eleven, is he?
Same back four, Hourihane in for Gardner and the only question is probably who goes on the left as the Green option. Which will probably be Bjarnason.
Same up top etc.

Hence I fully expect 3 points.
I was going to say that’ll see us on a nice roll.
But I’ve just had a glance at the fixtures and it’s Huddersfield away next, followed by what I suspect will be a very tasty game in Sheff Weds at home.

If we’re going to be showing any progress, these are the real testers, as our record against the better sides is rubbish.
Still, let’s stick to this game.

I’m going to stick my neck out and go for us getting 3 goals.
I believe we’re good enough and if we can turn it on, it’s not a daft prediction.

3-1 to the Lions!

Don’t understand 6 game ban when the Blackburn player only got 4 games for pushing a ref – but then there is no consistency at any level whether officiating a game or determining bans! Not that I’m defending Bacuna’s actions but 6 games?

Oh yes and have to agree with Badger on the result tomorrow UTV

Villa to score one more than the Millers, 0-1 or 1-2.

I agree about that ban, no consistency coming out of the FA.it shows to me that a board of over aged committee are now showing how worthless they are, yes a ban but 6 matches? it was no more than a passionate player pushing his chest out, and it looks like a frightened linesman. Also the comments made by the media didn’t help, Bacuna not my favourite player by a long chalk but over the top ban.what was the ban for Man utd when that Frenchman thumped a fan ,bet this is about getting money back for a ban on displaying the poppy.

i hope we can finally win our third game on the spin first time since mon days. this stat is alarming says lots about our struggles and consistencies. if we are to get promoted next season we need to be able to go on runs. sometimes winning when not playing well aswell.

we should beat rotherham, but we need to overcome a few things like playing away, winning third on spin. i look at leeds last night beating scum. they are not a good team of individuals, but collectively they more than make up for this. if one of the top two teams slip up in a few games, leeds will be ready to pounce. this only goes to show me that, we need to keep this manager and this squad together. we dont want to be buying to many in summer apart from a goalkeeper and maybe some decent young players if available. its important we build a team spirit like they have at leeds, this and our better quality of players we really should be walking this league.

bacuna probably is being made example of, in this confronting linesperson offense. something which should seal a better bond with our players. as it was our ball. they should all feel the injustice, the worlds against us mentality. but i think players should respect the officials right or wrongly. diving cheating confronting officials is bad for the game it doesnt happen in rugby and before the video referee was introduced

    3 nil villa

Nath – April 2010 was the last time we won three on the spin – another terrible record for SB to dismantle today.

Bacuna 6 matches? Lucky boy. Do you know what the grass roots tariff is?
    From the FA handbook
Recommended punishments for a person found guilty of an offence against a match official. (b) physical contact or attempted physical contact. Suspension from all football activities for a period of 182 days and a fine of up to £150.

Not defending his actions OLL but criticising a lack of consistency by the FA. The Blackburn player who recently pushed a referee received just one additional match ban (4 in total). What’s the difference? Villa considering appealing – the result of which will be the FA further increasing the ban?

      LOL.
Not defending him but saying didn’t raise his hands,or make any contact with his head it was a contact with body and anyone could see it was an over reactive move, to me its a personal dislike for our team, bet you all them people are Londoners, £150? Could that be amature players ,by the way not a dig at you but you obviously know that there’s a divide the other side of Watford. It was over the top. 1-2 Villa

Too little too late that’s why. Typical Villa finding a winning run when the seasons over and nothing to play for but pride. Dosnt matter whether we win or lose we will finish midtable regardless. Other than Blues at home there’s nothing to play fir

I disagree there mate, i think now is the time to get the team settled and look to make a strong start to next season now, that’s the best we can hope for.

Oohah – perhaps you would feel happier if we were losing? Of course, in one sense you’re right, but what’s more important is building a winning habit from now to the end of the season which can be built on next year. Come on mate you can enjoy that winning feeling – I know you can

Winning (as losing) in football becomes habitual, so scrape it fluke it or whatever as long as we’re winning I’m as happy as a dog with two d##ks.
          Up the Villa!

I take your point but winning or losing means nothing when you’ve sod all to play for. Probably only winning as no pressure now we are out of promotion race. Will the players be able to handle the expectation level for next season that’s the big question. Even if they do we still won’t get automatic promotion.

I predicted at start of season we’d finish midtable and that looks very likely. I said last year we’d go down and we did. IV been saying for years we are in the decline. As for next weeks lottery numbers they are ??????

I wouldn’t get too confident, the last three teams we have played are hardly world beaters and we hardly put in outstanding performances either, yes it’s nice to win three in a row but lets not forget where we are and who we have played.
