RDM sacking confirmed

I’d like to say I’m glad.
But the truth is I’m not.
We now have to pretty much start from scratch, with a new manager having to get to know the players and all that involves.
That said, Roberto Di Matteo had to go, because it simply wasn’t working.

And I have to doff my cap at how quickly Dr Xia and the board have reacted.
Which tells me that they’d already done the background work in implementing a plan B.
And I’d expect the announcement of a new manager very shortly, which tells me it’s going to be Steve Bruce.
Unless we’re going to use the international break to negotiate with another club as we pinch their manager.

All interesting, but sadly, still turbulent times.

My choice is another foreigner. Chap currently managing the Bromma Boys (full club name too hard to remember) in Sweden. He would start with a decent rapport with the fans – and he is unlikely to overlook bad defending. His name? Olaf Mellberg.

Bruce is a firm favourite & realistically without poaching another club possibly our main target.

well i just been reading up on dean smith, i admit to not knowing much of him before. i liked what i av learned. hes a villa supporter, i like that. means he isn’t just gonna want the money, he will care like the rest of us. he sounds like a manager that promotes the youth, which we used to be blessed with, also the way the transfer fees have risen, we should looked to develop more would give us edge. he must be tactically aware to almost get walsall promoted to championship. hes 5/1

i agree with majority bruce is the easy option, safe option. but he is also the one which the fans will turn on quickest. i don’t understand this, if hes the right man. then we shouldn’t care where hes been ,as long as he gives all for the villa. which he would as we are paying him. these managers and players are loyal the club they are employed by. well you would hope they are….

has RDM spoken about the split.i can’t find anything on this. wonder what reasons he gives that he failed. if iam honest he almost got the team playing. but his downfall was holding onto leads, instead of pressing forwards. had he won more early the confidence would have carried the team. but its his flaw holding on typical italian.

Nath – from what I saw, read, RDM made some very strange substitutions late on in games that seemed tactically naive – can’t have helped.

i didn’t see the preston game and i couldn’t put myself the highlights on 5. the games i saw villa had been the better side in all the games, they relinquished the grip of the game. in most of them. the one game i think shows this best was the luton one. they could have put luton away in first half, luton hammered us once they scored their first. i heard preston did a number on us too.

just to point out, i didn’t want him to stay. but i also didn’t want to rant and rave about things i have no control over. i said i trust the owner to do the necessaries. he has done so the king is dead again long live the king (wish the next guy lots of luck)he may need it

I think we are over analyzing the McLeish issues. I wasn’t happy with his appointment, but i was upset because we hired a manager that had just got a prem league team relegated. Some may have had an issie with the fact he came from Blues, but it was because he is a crap manager.

I disagree I didn’t think Mckeish was as bad as everyone made out. He kept us up and in hindsight that was a huge achievement. I thought some out fans behaviour to him was outrageous he could of won us the keague and they still would of slagged him off!

Seems like Huddersfield’s David Wagner has risen to top of list and according (to some) reports is wanted by Dr T. Can’t see Huddersfield allowing us to speak to him anyway (even if it’s true).

Even the Huddersfield rag is making light of of it using the word ‘inevitabily’ being linked basically any manager doing well is villa bound.

Actually I’d take Pullis over all of them. He knows how to win 1.0 and hold onto a lead all day long. WBA results wise arnt doing that badly either top 10 easily. He would take us up and get us midtable next year. Great choice imo

David Wagner is the former assistant to pools manager. huddersfield were tipped by many to be relegation fodder this year. i am with giddy this guy is a massive risk, but on the other =hand he if he can get villa playing like pool. what a ride we would enjoy.

yeah say he was manager of dortmund2 and that he was rumored to join klopp but ended up at huddersfield, i was just saying if he has the same philosophy as klopp the high press, the 5 players all working in tandem to hunt the ball. one sitting midfielder. cause pool are impressive of late.

Pool have much better players than us though. Defensively pool are rubbish but they work on out scoring teams which is exactly what we should be doing with a decent attack but crap defence

    Lots of speculation.

Nath I’ve fallen off the fence (too much wine) and find myself in a bed of nettles but I’m going with Bruce. I don’t care a toss whether he used to manage Blues in a former life he’s a much better manager than McClueless will ever be. Just think he has the experience and nouse that we need right now.

RDM was always a risk – we can’t afford to take another risk now like Wagner, Johnson (sic) et al.

      nath October 3, 2016 at 9:26 pm . Reply

inexperience might work at smaller clubs like birmingham and hudderfield , but i agree experience at villa is essential. he will have massive expectation from fans and owner. he will have more press intrusions than smaller clubs. he needs to deal with all this and more. plus take off the pressure of the players. cause we have seen players suffering with too much pressure on their shoulders.

one thing RDM has left, is decent crop of players, might not be everyones cuppa T, but this group should have had enough to easily be top 6. its still not too late if the new guy can get instant reaction, other clubs seem to get this reaction we never do, hopefully this time we will
