Pre-season vs Crewe; Line-up

Foxy submitted tonight’s line-up, cheers mate;

Line-up for the Crewe match:

Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar, Clark, Bacuna, El Ahmadi, Agbonlahor, Luna, Westwood, Benteke, Weimann.

(After 60 mins): Steer, Donacien, Baker, Bacuna, Helenius, Delph, Sylla, Robinson, Herd, Gardner, Carruthers.

That first half selection does look suspiciously like a statement of intent doesn’t it?

I’m now getting worried that Clark might be in the first 11, and still not convinced about El Ahmadi.

Okore will take Clark’s place once fit. Don’t worry mate.

If Lambert goes and buys a playmaker and another defender I will be extremely excited for the new season.

  2. anon3 avatar

Yep, I’d assume Okore will take priority too.
Clark is a decent back up, imo.
Stupidly flamboyant at times, but learning the ropes and still a decent prospect, imo.

  8. Crikey, I know Crewe don’t appear to have turned up but we’re playing some nice football.Clark has only given away one free kick but there’s still time.

    I’M ON FIRE!

Really hope he does the bizz for us this year again.

  13. Riddog avatar

Just conceded from a corner. Slight worry.

    1. anon3 avatar

      Conceded from a corner again?
      That’s getting far too regular.

CAN WE PLEASE GET A DEFENSIVE COACH WHO CAN IMPROVE US ??????

        OohAhPaulMcGrath

Not again ffs why the fuck hasn’t this been sorted its past a joke now. Even games we totally dominate v lower opposition the defence can’t keep a clean sheet. God help us when we play a decent arsenal and Liverpool fwd line. I suppose if we lost 5.0 to chelski lambert would see that as a big improvement from last season ffs

        1. anon3 avatar

          Shush you!
We’re thrashing a team and are concentrating on that side.
We’ve conceded 1, fair enough, but it should be a slight criticism, not the major point!

  14. And Clark has his booking, albeit at the other end of the pitch. I really hope both Baker and Okore get the call before him.

  15. Satch avatar

El Ahmadi has had a really good half hopefully we see a big improvement from him this season

    1. He is looking very good. Gabby is looking a bit rusty, I hope he gets up to speed for the start of the season.

What was it I was saying about KEA a couple of weeks back….never mind

    1. Nocleansheetagain avatar
      Nocleansheetagain

KEA looked quality in last seasons friendlies against weaker opposition and couldn’t cut it when he faced quality week in week out. He’s shite

        MarkDraperNumber8

        Alright guy, whatever you say

      2. anon3 avatar

Blimey, don’t mince your words mate.

I do agree with you though.
Put him up against top quality and he’s lacking, imo.

You never know though, he might step up.

        1. Nocleansheetagain avatar
          Nocleansheetagain

He may well step up but I doubt it. Can’t see him or Vlaar cutting it at prem level.

Good point Bob. All of a sudden the result matters and we’re now going to be a huge threat in the PL especially with KEA.

KEA played well when he came on at Manure………albeit at a time and in a game that was like a friendly.

Having said that, still don’t think he’s good enough overall

  19. MarkDraperNumber8 avatar
    MarkDraperNumber8

KEA will come good, very good.

Ok lets stop dissing KEA. markdrapernumber8 will need more tissues if we continue to belittle the Moroccan magician.

with a name like nocleansheetagain I can see you are a positive fan. Why the pessimism?

      1. anon3 avatar

Maybe because we never keep a clean sheet?

        It’s fair criticism, imo, MDN8, I’m afraid 🙁

        1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
          OohAhPaulMcGrath

Agreed anon and not often I agree with u. Dosnt matter weather it’s a friendly we are still making same basic errors and lambert seems oblivious about it or dosnt know what to do about it. A clean sheet tonight would if spread a bit of confidence to defence

          1. anon3 avatar

            Oohaah,
You can’t help it can you?

            SHUSH!

            We’re winning, big time mate!

        2. MarkDraperNumber8 avatar
          MarkDraperNumber8

I’m not against it Anon, makes the site interesting, it’s all good at the end of the day, I have my opinion as everyone else has theirs. All good banter mate.

We can’t base a player (KEA) and his ability after having a good pre-season against North American teams last year (not the best league to gauge PL against) a shocking season proper with us (main problem was his being out-muscled and acting a bit of a headless chicken) but rarely given a full run in the team, especially after the turn of the year.
KEA is a quality football player, is doesn’t just disappear and not everyone is a Benteke and hits the ground on fire in the PL.

IMO he will turn up this year. I’ve got my kleenex ready in case I’m wrong

          1. anon3 avatar

I’d concede he didn’t get much of a run, but I’d say that’s Lambert all over.
Hit the ground running, or do one, for now.
Show the desire and you’ll get another shot, etc.
Decent squad player for me, but maybe PL sees more than me 🙂

The last time we kept a clean sheet was? I think my name is therefore justified. Pessimistic? KEA was good in last seasons friendlies against lesser opposition yet when he played in the PL he struggled. That tells me he’s not good enough for the prem. again I do believe my statement has been justified.

    1. Satch avatar

Agreed he wasnt great last season and looked like a headless chicken at times but it sometimes takes players longer to adjust to the prem. Im willing to give him a bit more time and if he hasnt clicked by january then we should look to offload.

  23. Benno avatar

We finally won a friendly and Benteke bangs in 3…happy days!

Still think we need to bring in a good playmaker to play in behind him.

  24. MarkDraperNumber8 avatar
    MarkDraperNumber8

It’s all good nocleansheet you don’t have to justify yourself, you have your opinion and I have mine.

We won tonight comfortably. We should all rejoice and point out the positives instead of dwelling on a conceded corner, yawn.

    1. Nocleansheetagain avatar
      Nocleansheetagain

I felt you needed it explaining to you. You don’t come across as the brightest light in the dark but to be fair to you anybody who thinks KEA is class based on a performance against a league 1 side is obviously clueless. Hope you feel better now you have it in idiot terms.

I have and like the rest of your comments it’s a bit like Birmingham City in the middle of November…..pointless.

            Nocleansheet,

You can stop with that sort of comment straight away mate.
Disagreements are fine, but we don’t do “holier than thou” type comments.

Debate, by all means, but please keep it civil.

Great to see Benteke amongst the goals considering he’s only played 45 mins of pre-season and not been back in training for very long. Bacuna looked good and it’s great to see Weimann and Gabby back on the park. There’s a lot of positives to take from this game. Although again no clean sheet is very concerning.
