Aston Villa have played a few pre-season games but I just wanted to quickly evaluate the top 3 players that impressed me the most. Aston Villa have had a training camp in Germany where they played against 3 teams and they have also played against Luton, Crewe and Wycombe. Aston Villa’s current record is 1-3-1.
Bacuna:
Lambert signed Bacuna and many fans were quick to point out that we knew very little about him. The 21-year old Dutch man is very versatile and has so far played as a attacking midfielder, a right back and a winger. Bacuna has already proved 3 assists during pre-season and has recently scored a great goal against Crewe. It’s looking more and more likely that Bacuna will be starting for Aston Villa and so far, he has been Aston Villa’s most impressive signing.
Weimann:
Weimann is playing really well, he has energy, pace, and has often been Aston Villa’s main attacking threat during pre-season. Weimann has also scored a fair share of goals and against Crewe, linked brilliantly with Benteke. My only compliant is that Weimann should work on his finishing, he often creates and is involved in a lot of plays, however he often fails to find the back of the net. He will be a huge player for Aston Villa this season.
Luna:
Placing a defender into this list is a bit of a surprise, but bare with me here. Luna has been brought in to put more pressure on Bennett and it seems as though he’s done something a little different. Luna has played very well and not only is he decent when attacking, he is a lot more confident on the ball and stronger defensively than Bennett.
Grealish:
I also wanted to quickly include one youth player, a lot of our youth players from our reserves have been given a chance with the first team. And so far the two youth players have impressed me, Carruthers and Grealish. But so far, I think that Grealish has been a tad bit better. He is very young, has been involved in plays and adds threat out wide.
Pre-season is in no way over, but I thought that now would be a good time to take a quick look at some of the players that have been play consistently and deserve some credit for the recent performances.
you realise you’re gonna be in for it now putting Luna on that list 😉
personally I couldn’t make any of the games but have watched on AVTV and i’d have to agree with you here, also it was just amazing too see tekkers step up and just bang 3 in 1st time out like it was nothing, I know they’re only freindlies but it shows his class when you consider all that’s gone on, I do believe he is the real deal.
I noticed el ahmadi has featured quite a bit, has he made his way back into lamberts good books? he really failed to shine last season.
bacuna looks great.
clark has really worried me this pre season in that he doesn’t seem to have moved on from his issues last season.
hopefully the Malaga game may see a competeive starting 11 without a 2nd half team change giving us a better idea where we are at at the moment.
I like the look of Luna and we need to see him play a few PL games to see how he does. He seems to be a lot better than Bennett and I have a feeling he’s going to get stronger and put in a few assists. Left back was a big problem for us last season and I think Luna is going to nail it.
I haven’t seen much of Bacuna but that goal was a peach.
Wiemann looks great, as usual, but I think this is Westwood’s year to improve most. I was saying he will be captain soon (ignoring the friendly against his old club) and he just looks great in the middle.
Grealish also looks good, so calm and composed on the ball. Also so lanky, but then he is just 17.
I do wish Tonev and Okore had been fit though, especially Okore. We need to see if he’s going to be the answer.
Think Okore will be good but I reckon it will be season after this one before we see the best of him. Though he can’t possibly be worse than what wev got. IMO we still need to sign a ch urgently
I see Tony, Tony Moon being a massive cult hero at VP…….as long as he cuts it. Early signs have been promising.
Would have liked to have seen more of Tonev and Okore, shame Helenius picked up a knock too although was doing well prior to this
It still worries me that if the team played for the first hour at Crewe is by and large our starting 11, Clark is deemed higher up the CB order than Baker. I’d much rather have seen Baker with Vlaar. It’s interesting that Baker has been played in LB instead of the injured Bennett, allowing Donacien to play in the middle. I didn’t know anything about him before but he does look very good indeed. I still wonder if Lambert is going to try KEA in the gap, he made some nice passes against Crewe including the chip over the top for one of Benteke’s goals. Yes, it was only Crewe but perhaps Lambert sees something we don’t and doesn’t yet feel the need to bring in a new number 10?
So I’ve seen Huttons talks with Mallorca are breaking down. feck sake
And Bannan’s talks with Blackburn. They’re obviously happy earning what they’re earning from us!
I bet Bannan is on around £18-20k a week absolute disgrace same goes for hutton £35k a week for that pile of shit! No wonder they will want to stay they havent got to do fuck all to earn it. they both know that the wages at another club will be significantly less and they’re putting their feet down, sooner these players are gone the better. thank god for Lambert and the new philosophy.
