Paul Lambert has been at Aston Villa for approximately a year now, and with each day, it is becoming more and more evident, that Paul Lambert may be: a special one ( of course, not alluding to José Mourinho in any way).
Paul Lambert has refurbished the whole team, sidelining and simply not playing: dead wood and people who were not up to scratch but earning more than they deserve I.e. Alan Hutton, Stephen Warnock, James Collins, and to some extent: Stephen Ireland etc. The minute Lambert walked through the door, he knew that big changes were needed to be made or else: all the flirting with relegation would actually occur (what with Mcleish’s reign just before him).
In the summer of 2012, whilst removing dead wood: he also signed a host of players and revamped the whole squad by spending roughly 20 million pounds (not including the money he gained from selling players). Signings included: Ron Vlaar, Joe Bennet, Christian Benteke, Matt Lowton, Jordan bowery, El Ahmadi, Brad Guzan and Ashley Westwood (amongst others). From all the players above, only a couple are above 25, and it appears as though Paul Lambert was mainly targeting young, hungry, and less expensive players. For most part his shrewd signings were a success and have merged well in the new look of Aston Villa boring well for next season.
Paul Lambert showed that he is a new type of manager aiming solely to produce a team that is young in the top flight of football, which is a risky business. He stuck to his philosophy even in the dark days of December when many of us begged for experience to be brought… He also showed us that he has the character to build a team, and have faith in his signings even if they fail on many occasions. What this means is, we now have a team (provided that: Darren Bent, Stephen Ireland, and the likes leave), which has a good synergy about it, and of course not earning ridiculous sums of money, which is not justifiable.
This summer, Paul Lambert has signed 6 players, all under 25, all reasonably cheap to patch up the team for next season and to build on what has been created. I’m going to be bold and say: we can be a top 10 team next season without a doubt, because Lamberts attacking styled football, along with a reshuffled defensive back line, with the addition of a strong creative, attacking midfielder or two, will be too irresistible for many teams in the prem. So do you think Paul Lambert is a special one or am I just a Lambert Lemming 🙂 ?
Hip Hop he may not be special if what i read on one site yesterday that if he loses first three games then O G S is going to be bought in.So think you maybe jumping the gun a bit.
I very much doubt we’d be signing six to ten players if Lerner had his finger on the trigger.
Apparently Noo’astle have been given the green light to sign DB, and he’s been left out of pre season training by Lambert. Would be if we can get this done sharpish..
I think Lambert will be here for a good long while, even if we’d have got relegated last season I believe Learner would have stuck with him.
Villa and Lambert have taken on a big, big task and have gambled to some degree by sticking to their guns and not panicking even in the dark winter.
this season will define lambert and tell us all we need to know, he came in last season with a plan and did well to survive and finished the season playing some great football.
I believe lambert still has a lot to learn, getting beat by Bradford and getting thrashed by a host of teams last season shows that but I also believe that no one should underestimate what a monumental achievement staying up under the circumstances was and no one should underestimate the experience the team and lambert have acquired after last seasons baptism of fire.
there can be no excuses this season and I don’t expect any whatever happens.
I believe in Lambert we have a good manager with a good football philosophy.
im not expecting miracles this season but im not expecting a relegation battle either.
My feelings too, I think that we’ll finish somewhere between eight and twelfth, and don’t expect to be too far either side of that at any stage of the season.
It’ll be a bit of midtable boredom which will be strangely refreshing down VP !
Terry, I think that lose three games and OGS comes in is absolute rubbish. We had turned the corner and were getting results against the sides we should expect to be beating.
Doubt that Lambert is under any pressure at all at the moment, he is doing exactly what Lerner wants, building a side to compete on a sustainable basis.
bent to Newcastle? good move for everyone involved if it goes though, Newcastle need a good striker and you’d be hard pressed to find better at his current price tag imo and bent needs first team footie.
I hope for everyones sake it goes through.
not sure Darren speaks French though 😉
yeah terry, I gotta agree with vasey on the OGS thing, i’d be totally gob smacked if Lambert got booted before the end of the season whatever happens.
also OGS has stated on many many occasions he is not interested in a move to the prem.
Where has this OGS stuff come from?
It’s bull crap, you watch next season, well be begging to get paul lambert signed up to a new contract
Good piece HipHop I’m with you mate in Lemming camp, not since the days of Sir Ron have I felt this buzz. On the Mourinho note I think this season could be a special one.
