I couldn’t get a preview post up, because I was simply too busy doing other stuff, apologies.
Whatever, it didn’t matter as the ref’s decision to pull the game back after Lansbury had scored what seemed a legitimate goal, led to quite a few replies anyway.
Okay, we lost this game, but to be honest, I’m not really bothered about that.
We’ll lose a lot more games this season, without a doubt and the reasons why are much more important than a ref’s decision.
So what went wrong?
Well, if you asked me to rate the players, the only one who would score over 5 would be Heaton, who I’d probably give a 7-8.
I then struggle to rate any other player above a 5/10.
A comment that I don’t think I’ve ever made before, which strikes me as odd in itself.
I can’t put my finger on it, but we got this one totally wrong.
The wingers were totally non existent, our midfielders didn’t get a look in, whether attacking or defending and was Wesley on the pitch?
The fact that John McGinn was equally anonymous today, says it all.
It takes some doing for him to not get into a game.
Unless we give Crystal Palace and Roy Hodgson some proper credit in saying that they totally negated anything we tried to do.
Yes, you can bitch and moan about the goal that wasn’t given, but quite simply, Palace bested us in every way.
We had a bright start, but Palace over-ran us at will for most of the game, because of their pacy attack.
Of course, it didn’t help that we had four bookings on our part, before Palace got their first and that no doubt makes players nervous.
But I have to say that many of those bookings were deserved, if you’re a ref who’s reading everything to the rules.
Which is where things should have been replicated on Palace’s part.
Yet they weren’t.
There was a blatant stamp, that went un-punished very shortly after one of our players had just been booked for the same thing.
How does that work?
I’m moaning about the ref, but it doesn’t matter.
When you’re in the Prem, you have to overcome this sort of stuff, as it’s what happens.
I personally think today was a reality check and a glimpse of what we’re going to see much more of.

In other words, it’s still an open loophole and imo, the PL won’t be able to do anything about it.
It’s a non-story to my mind and as the club have said “it’s standard practice” to do a review.
If they want to stop it happening, they’ll have to change the rules.
And I don’t see how they could do it anyway, as surely it would be a restriction of trade?
I can’t see how they can do that – change the rules that is. Surely the club is free to trade any of it’s assets in any manner it sees fit as long as it complies with the various relevant regulations and laws.
Perhaps they should spend more time explaining to Bolton and Bury fans how FFP works given that neither, to the best of my knowledge, were in breach. Forget debt, it’s all about cash and liquidity!

I am sure they can change the rules Hitch. FFP is something that doesn’t happen with other areas and would probably be unlawful. I think the issue will be looked at and some kind of rule may end up being applied, but not retrospectively. That would open the PL to a big legal action. Whatever is applied, teams will seek ways round it, just like Man City with their stadium sponsorship.
I really believe any club owner should be able to invest whatever they like, as long as they don’t load the club with unsustainable debt.
Like I said Hitch, after the refereeing weve seen and now this, I’m starting to think the PL powers have it “infa” AVFC.
I frequent multiple Villa blogs and have done for best part of 18 years and still like this one the best. I may not post on every thread but I’ve been diehard Villa for 35 years and I think this site has more optimistic yet blended with realism vs other sites who seem to enjoy ripping the club apart rather than supporting. Badger you do a great job and enjoy the thought you put into posts unlike a certain narcissist who runs one of the original big sites not named.

I have a view on other Villa sites and it’s that they’re all informative at times.
I agree and disagree with stuff sometimes, but ultimately we’re all on the same side.

Bulgaria showing how and why not to play out from the back, this evening. Why exactly do teams do this again? Bizarre. You have possession of the ball and have the chance to get it into the opposition half in a second and get into the attacking third. But instead, you choose to put yourself under pressure deep in your own half. Can someone explain that with any logic please?
Because the option is to lump it and probably lose the ball?
It’s a tricky one and I’ve even accused Mings of dallying and looking for a near pass at the back, where he’s been caught out.
The truth is probably that retaining possesion is usually the best bet, but it often scares me.
It doesn’t help when you realise that Bulgaria are frankly Division 2 level.
Yet they still caught us out, a couple of times.
Maybe, Badger. But lumping it suggests an aimless long ball. What’s wrong with an accurate goal-kick won in midfield and an attack starting from the halfway line, rather than your own goal-line, which is ridiculously risky?
