New Sporting Director Appointed

| | 142 Comments| 10:07 AM

Hendrik Almstadt has been appointed as Aston Villa’s first ever sporting director. Almstadt has arrived from Arsenal, where Tom Fox used to work as well, the German’s responsibilities will include technical scouting, data analytics, financial budgeting and contract management, the academy and athletic development.

“I’m really pleased to welcome Hendrik to Aston Villa.

“I was able to see first hand the excellent work he did at Arsenal and he will add tremendous value across our entire football set-up.”- Tom Fox

Bringing in a Sporting Director is almost a direct response after talks of a takeover broke down. Lerner did state in an interview a month back that if he failed to sell the club, he’d appoint a sporting director to help with the work load at the club. Tom Fox himself has a large influence over the club now and it has shown after he has been able to bring in his own man. At the same time this can act as a positive sign that Tom Fox will continue to stay and work at this club.

“I can’t wait to start my new role at Aston Villa.

“It is a club with huge potential, a rich history and deep roots in Birmingham, the Midlands, and within English and European football.

“I look forward to working again with Tom Fox and to establish a close relationship with the manager, Tim Sherwood.” – Almstadt

  1. Line of the week on here…………………….Fox is a salesman……brilliant. 🙂

    1. Let the bidding war begin, Liverpool have agreed to meet the buy out clause, according to BBC sports news, new forward line coming? I wonder.

  2. I’m reading the brum mail says adebeyor is Sherwoods preference to Austin hopefully his wage demands are too much for the club.don’t want him one bit it’d be an expensive gamble imo

    1. there is know way tom fox will allow this sort of transfer. he is to old and on silly wages. we are going for younger players with a sell on value . hitc is pushing the adebeyor bullshit as a lot of there reporters are spurs fans and they want him gone. even if sherwood wants him i dont think the board will . i really think this is just paper talk. we will be after a striker who is younger who we can play for a few years and sell on for profit . i could see a loan for a season with us paying part of his wages but i really would be shocked if we bought him.

  3. The front page of L’Equipe announces that Aston Villa are tracking Monaco forward Anthony Martial.

  4. Benteke looks like he is on his way out. Deal is close but not signed yet, from sky sports

    1. “release clause met”, i hope for two things : United come in for him and guzump the scousers , and we spend all the transfer fee wisely !

  5. Benteke should only be allowed to leave if Liverpool also agree to sign Hutton, Cissoko, N’zogbia, Sendeross and Richardson as part of the deal. 😉

    1. Ha Ha. I agree, I hope pool are not trying to of load Lambert as part of the deal. Take the fee am sure Sherwood has player’s in mind to come in.

      1. I’m sure he would of identified a couple of replacements. I see Remy is being lined with Palace, he’d be a decent signing imo.

  6. Just seen a stat there that only aguero, suarez, and van Persie have scored more goals than benteke since 2012! And all 3 were playing in much better teams, he has scored more than Rooney, giroud, lukaku, sturrage, torres, Andy carroll and all these other players that went or would go for more than 32 mil but somehow benteke still isn’t worth that for some people, and that’s with his “bad” injury record so imagine if he didn’t hav a bad injury record and played for a top team! Like I said before if he was a pool player they would value him at 60 mil or more right now but poor old villa should accept 25 mil!!! Fuck off please!

  7. Had a look NN and there are reports of ,Delphs transfer with city is back on. Bullshit I hope .

    1. Few sources reporting it, and a possible photo of him heading in to a medical in Manchester. Might explain the links to additional defensive midfielders this week.

  8. i am not sure it is bullshit i think delph and benteke along with cleveley were the losing mentality players he wanted out, who divulged the release clause info, delph or his agent couldn’t you could see the club were wrong footed by his decision last week

    1. BB – that’s a very interesting viewpoint and certainly agrees with Oohah’s view of Delph’s ‘influence’ on our results. Perhaps TS has told him to ‘get on his bike’!

Personally, I’ve never been able to make up my mind over Delph so probably not that concerned if he goes as long as we get in the right type of replacements. Loss of Benteke is more of a problem from a goal scoring aspect but if he’s a problem in the dressing room then let the bin dippers deal with it. I am concerned over who we are being linked with as a replacement.

  9. Delph spotted at Man City actual photo proof. Haha if this happens after all he won’t be allowed back in brum

  10. Obviously gets a sick out of fucking football fans around, don’t think he’ll be made welcome back to brum.Randy 40mil get spending.

    1. BBC reporting it as virtually a done-deal.

If the twat can’t make up his own mind where his ‘loyalty’ lies until someone plonks another fistful of cash in front of his nose then good riddance. He can spend the next few years watching games from the bench and picking the splinters out of his arse…

  11. Apparently the pic of of Sterling’s medical and someone has pasted a bald head on there

  12. bearing in mind what happened last week none of us should believe anything until it is confirmed.
But if true it seems a lot worse.
I wasn’t bothered if he had left last week cos apart from the goals against WBA and Liverpool in the cup and a few good games with Cleverley towards the end of the season i thought he was poor. But after he showed some loyalty last weekend he had my respect and it now (if true) feels like a kick in the teeth.

  13. With regards to actual football I personally feel both Delph and Benteke will find grass isn’t always greener, but with that being said their pockets will be nicely lined. I”m happy the club could sort out matter off the field, but on the field things couldn’t be more dire.

  14. Anyone else think his decision/s are/were based on the proposed takeover? I.e he was staying previously as it looked like the take over was going through and fresh investment may have yielded more success, whereas now the takeover is off he can see another season fighting relegation? It’s the only thing that makes sense to me as if he goes now he will be vilified by fans of all clubs and all aspects of the media after his statement last week.

  15. If it’s true then Delph looks a real prat and frankly someone we don’t need at our club

  16. I’m sorry but if we have kept going after losing the likes of Milner and Young then we’ll be fine, Delph leaving just makes the signing of Gueye even more important.

  17. just seen the photo again it could be sterling with a bald head might be a photoshop hoax could do with some feedback from the club

    1. Yeah, but remember how when Judas Downing was pictured in a bindippers shirt just before he went there – everyone made out it was another Photoshop fake – may well have been, but he went anyway…
