Man Utd – Villa Preview; Could we get something?

manchester-united-vs-arsenal-premier-league

As I’ve frequently said, I detest breaks in the season caused by internationals.
While I know they’re necessary, the friendlies really wind me up, as they extend a break that could be shortened. The breaks just kill the impetus in the season, for me.

Enough of my moaning though and at least we’re back to the really important stuff, as in a quite daunting game at Old Trafford.
Or at least it should be a daunting game, as Utd have some pretty formidable form in 2015.
The win at Anfield won’t have done them any harm either and they’ll be chomping at the bit, no doubt.

So why then, do I have a sneaky feeling that we might get something from this game?
The truth is I don’t know, but I had a conversation with a Manc fan about a week ago and he asked my thoughts. I said I had a bit of a feeling and he immediately offered me the draw and the win for a £10 bet.
Although I’m not a betting man, I took him up on the bet, again because of the sneaky feeling, but more because of the draw. It can’t be a bad bet can it?

The truth is though, even though we have had a surge in optimism after Sherwood’s arrival, my bet isn’t logical. Utd are on a roll and we aren’t.
And now, having had second thoughts, I wish I hadn’t taken the bet. Because I invariably lose.

Still, I’ve been really encouraged, because I’ve been looking around the various sites and it seems I’m not the only one who has a bit of a feeling. It seems there are plenty of Villa fans who think we might at least get a point.

And admittedly, we definitely have the pace to worry anyone on the day, if our game clicks.

Team news then and quite frankly, I’m seeing contradictory things.

Ron Vlaar has trained fully, so will possibly start.
Sendoros and Cole returned to training, so may be available.
Okore? I’ve seen reports he’s out and reports that he’s fit.
Cissokho and Baker are definitely out and Cleverley is ineligible.

It seems Utd have RVP definitely out (good news), But Rooney is fine and Falcao is looking likely to start. Smalling is also out after going off for England.
Jonny Evans is suspended and Luke Shaw hasn’t trained all week.

What’s it going to be then?
My head says Utd will just have too much for us.

But my heart says it’s a funny old game and you never know.
Hence I’ll go for 1-1.
Because of that tenner I’ve got riding on it.

And just because I know a few of you like a vote;

We’d lost this game before a ball was kicked according to some on here, under our predecessor we would of been railroaded & our goal diff would of been disastrous by now. Enjoy the whinging.bring on the hoops

A fair few better performances than under Lambert but he’s been incredibly questionable in use of N’Zogbia and lack of use of Gil. His subs are odd as well.

Well…that was as bad as ANYTHING under Lambert!!!……..Weimann??? instead of Grealish or Gil?? Lambert got slammed for picking Weimann. The tactics were awful/hardly a decent shot on goal. Gifted a goal by a poor goalkeeping error.

Grim and Dim and his name is Tim!!

Deadwood….your out of your depth mate…..no better than McLeish or Lambert. That was embarrassing. 6 – 1 woukd NOT have flattered Manure.

He’s grim, he’s dim and his name is fucking tim….deadwood OUT deadwood OUT

Didnt expect a result today, but that was a pretty poor display. We couldnt put 3 passes together and some of the possession and fouls we gave away were Sunday League level. Luckily United were off their game today.

Weird tactics too. 4-2-4 at Old Trafford? Weimann left wing? Cole off the bench ahead of Gil. Obvioulsy Sherwood has had a big impact on confidence and motivation at the club, but im worried about him tactically. The last two games have really shown that up.

Massive game on Tuesday now. Lets hope he gets it right this time….

I was expecting we’d lose but hoped we’d at least put up a fight.

Its the Rangers and Leicester wins that are giving me the willies. At least Hull went down and here’s hoping Newcastle can get some revenge on Sunderland.

I’d sooner be staying up by our own efforts though rather than wishing that others fail.

I’ve got a feeling that the next seven weeks are going to be a bit raw of the nerves

No marks for Sherwood, neither starters nor the subs were set up to make a game of it. You have to take United out of their comfort zone, Gil and Sinclair might have done so, Cole definitely cannot and Nzog is usually switched off in an away game. If Nzog was a horse he would get the unreliable squiggle in Timeform, it does not take five minutes to see if he is refusing to start as – he was today, so take him off immediately.

Sherwood is blind if he thinks Benteke is even an average centre-forward in the air, he isn’t. Couple that with the fact that Gabby cannot read a flicked on header, he couldn’t with Heskey or anyone since, and you have no chance of a ball hoofed up field producing anything useful. Sinclair and Gil would have posed different problems. Tim has been conned by the old lazy pros who buck up a bit for a new gaffer. They cannot sustain it, and Lambert’s failures are now failing for him. It is time for him to drop the deadwood.
