So I was talking to a Villa supporting workmate and he’s terrified about this one.
His prediction was, that it might be 7-0.
It’s easy to think that and I can understand why he said it after Pool got whupped by Man City.
Klopp was rightly fuming, but the fact that the team had walked the league was always going to affect them mentally. They’re the champions, by a long way and surely they’d have felt invincible?
But coming up against City was probably the worst fixture for us and they’ll have had their behinds kicked and will be going all out to beat us.
Maybe that 7-0 isn’t so far off the mark.
Except I think it is.
I’m laughing to myself as I write this, because I could be so wrong, but I actually think this will be a tight, close game.
I’m certainly not predicting a win, but I don’t think it will be the massive victory some of us are fearing.
Things could go a couple of ways, in my opinion.
If Pool are walking all over us, they’ll easily be able to back off and just soak up our lack of attacking threat.
Or, if as I suspect, we put up a decent resistance, they’ll still have too much for us, simple as.
I’m putting this one down as a loss, but it’s more about how many we concede.
If we can keep it less than a two goal defeat, I think we’ll have done ok.
We should also remmeber that we gave Pool one of their toughest games this season, something that I think Klopp called a pivitol moment (I haven’t read that particular story, but it’s out there).
I’m going for a 2-1 defeat, but it really wouldn’t surprise me if we were to actually nick a point.
Nah, it’s just the lack of sun getting to me.

See, I’m not negative all the time 🙂
I had to read your post a few times Badger because I’m sure you said we might nick a point. Definitely can’t blame it on sunstroke so possibly alcohol with pubs opening today. 🥳
Heh.
I’m certainly not as downbeat as you, Holte.
It’s not the booze either: that’ll hit me later.
It is what it is and as I always say, you never know.
Without wanting to sound boring, it’s a funny old game.
But I really do see where you’re coming from.
Feel free to take the piss if we do have our arses handed to us 🙂
Badger, before the Manc C game I thought we might ‘benefit’ from a fall off of form / concentration / drive – whatever you might call it following Liverpool’s confirmation as Champions.
Sadly, and this seems to always happen to Villa, the timing of their defeat works against us. I can’t believe that Klopp will allow them to repeat that performance and so I worry that we might be on the end of a heavy defeat.
I don’t expect us to come away with any points but putting in a performance and making Liverpool earn a win is crucially important.
I find the aftermath of being downbeat makes life easier! Too many times in the past I’ve been upbeat only to be gutted after yet another defeat. Of course it’s always worse when the games televised and we must be the biggest underachievers for live coverage. 😢
God, yes, agreed.
When was the last ime we won on telly?
I don’t know mate, I just hope for the best, while expecting the worst.
Lowering the expectations just helps, I feel.
The reality is we’re down already, imo
But the fact that we moved up a place without kicking a ball says it all.
You can’t deny facts.
According to Smith, it’s a good time to play Liverpool; DELUDED PRAT!!!
You might disagree with Smith but that’s no reason to be offensive
Smith’s the easy target, imo.
The frustration is understandable though, as much as I don’t think names are called for just yet.
just watch watford they look like they are not up to the fight, then changed midway through second half they looked better pressing higher. but interestingly pearson looked livid at full time. we are only one goal behind them and a point now with a game in hand.
pool game iam gonna sleep on my prediction lol but i was same as hitch i fancied us to catch pool off beat. now that city caught them the game before us, our game now will so much harder. also pool wont want to lose two on the bounce after being declared champions and they want to become the only side to win all home games.
looking at the game tonight dare i say we should play for the draw lol mr negative, bigger picture is we dont want a 7 nil as badgers mate predicts. we are back in this survival now.
ok my head says we are gonna lose this 2 /3 nil. even my heart says 1 nil pool. but we have a good chance if we just be a little more assertive, allow pool ball at the back and in their half, but anywhere near our 20 metres from goal press and press hard.allow them no space and put in hard challenges ball player tackles. all legal but this will discourage them from wanting the ball again in tight areas.
our best hopes is free kicks and corners. i would play just as we did against wolves. we were more compact and we carried more threat with the front three. samatta davis and grealish,he was really close in behind them. he was excused tracking the ball back into our half. his job was to get close to the front two. thou we didn’t trouble wolves much. we had opportunities from dead ball in that game, but our dead ball taking was dire to say the least
results yesterday have really put us back in with a shot. we are going away to crowned champions nothing to fear here. go out and test yourself against the best. do not be overawed. do not come off and think i could have done more. leave everything on the pitch and villa have a good chance. take pool to the late stages of the game. coming away with a point would spur us on in the rest of games.
man utd are not the force they were. yes they beat Bournemouth but they are on a seriously bad run, their confidence is rock bottom. villa need to take each game separately and not fear anybody. looks to me like teams in and around us are just as bad as us. so we pick up points and three where we can and do not get hammered we have a chance.
I’m worried about what today’s score line will be. My prediction is 4-0 and I think I’m being conservative. Our best hope is that we keep Salah & co. out for as long as possible in the hope we score from a set piece. I don’t think Smith will play two up top. Davis probably will be dropped because he won’t get anything from Van Dyke. Samatta might be better option if ball is played into feet. It doesn’t really matter what team we pick though. Every player we have is bettered by Liverpool counterparts.
If Newcastle win in the earlier kick off, the pressure will be less on us and our game becomes more of a free hit.
Meanwhile Brentford won again comfortably so maybe we should go and poach their coaching staff! 🙄
Okay we all agree we are going to lose today Yes so let’s plan for the championship sell Captain Jack and Tyrone Mings should get top money get rid of Dean Smith and all recruiting staff build one strong 1st team around John McGinn and Blood our own under 23s if I have afended anyone Tough. VTID
I agree with what you said Norman except I don’t think we will keep McGinn either. I’m sure his agent is sounding out clubs to keep him in the premier league. I wouldn’t be surprised if Luiz goes too based on current form. I think we will be down before West Ham game. If and when it’s confirmed we are relegated we should immediately plan ahead. Yes, that’s without those players who’s careers lie elsewhere.
I don’t know whether Smith will go or not. Purslow should confirm this as soon as we are relegated or safe. Terry and Suso whatever happens should go because they are the biggest failures this season. There are players who have long term contracts which we are burdened with. The last 10 years at Villa seem like continual Groundhog Day. Constantly making the same mistakes and never learning from them. Which players will be our new bomb squad?
Also agree with Norman to a point although throwing all the babies out with the bath water can be a dodgy strategy. The Championship is not an easy league and teams need a blend of experience and youth. I’m definitely in the JT and Suso out camp.
Still while we’re still only one pint and one goal from being out of the bottom three we have to keep believing – even if it seems to be a fantasy at this point in time.
UTV
Ha – only one pint – might be true though – but I did mean point 🙂
they put the pints up in my local hitch. scandalous lol
i agree we don’t want to throw the kids in the championship. you can blood them slowly nothing wrong with that. but lets rely on them sinking or swimming. i am not sure mings and mcginn will leave i hope not. we need some of the decent player to stay loyal and take us back up.
i would keep smith personally he knows the club and the league. let him build a team which is his team. when he got us promoted that was bruce team and this current team i doubt is him. they certainly do not play like his teams do
Why has my comment disappeared? I only asked if anyone had a spare bus we can park across the goalmouth!
I can’t see it mate.
Unless it’s a glitch, it would appear you never actually posted it.
Hi Badger, I did post and it was there… Strange IT nonsense!!!
If we come out of this with anything less than a 4-0 loss then we have done superb. Can’t wait to watch us play in our own half all game and watch the hoof ball game plan fail miserably again. As you can tell I’m feeling positive about this game!
Would you sodding believe it, West Ham scored after 3 minutes play.,
Newcastle equalised. Somebody up there still wants us to survive. Survival is also the word for today and if we can’t snatch a result then must not concede too many.
It shut up my neighbour equalizing, now for the second half.
put that gazza song on full blast, fog on the tyne bill
anybody got the team selections ?
reina in goal and samatta drops to bench trezeguet and el ghazi flank davis.
liverpool have not thrown the kids in, looks like a strong team they fielded, hopefully we can make this a cup final. pool will not want to pick up injuries. so we have to get stuck in and test their commitment
Reina, Konsa, Hause, Mings, Taylor, McGinn, Douglas Luiz, El Ghazi, Trezeguet, Grealish, Davis.
Subs: Samatta, Guilbert, Jota, Nyland, Ahmed El Mohamady, Lansbury, Vassilev, Nakamba, Hourihane
Yes Rein a, Konka, Minns, Louise, Taylor, Mcginn, Elgazzi, Treatise, Grealish, Davis, . Good luck Villa.
Its just another game. Last 8 games have gone Liverpool 4 wins, Villa 3 wins and a draw. Liverpool 16 Villa 13. Wide open.
Please God, let this be a draw!!!!!
Played pretty well. McGinn looking back to something like what we expect from him
Will Liverpool be as poor in the 2nd half? I hope so but can’t see it happening.
Liverpool don’t look like champions to me, but I think it’s just more that their game isn’t flowing.
I’m actually pleased and think we’re doing ok, showing at least a bit of urgency.
Keep it up lads!
We got to do same second half. A point here if we can manage it is priceless. Lets hope we can come up with a special second half performance. Luiz form continues.
