Liverpool – Villa; It looks bleak, doesn’t it?

So I was talking to a Villa supporting workmate and he’s terrified about this one.
His prediction was, that it might be 7-0.

It’s easy to think that and I can understand why he said it after Pool got whupped by Man City.
Klopp was rightly fuming, but the fact that the team had walked the league was always going to affect them mentally. They’re the champions, by a long way and surely they’d have felt invincible?

But coming up against City was probably the worst fixture for us and they’ll have had their behinds kicked and will be going all out to beat us.
Maybe that 7-0 isn’t so far off the mark.

Except I think it is.

I’m laughing to myself as I write this, because I could be so wrong, but I actually think this will be a tight, close game.
I’m certainly not predicting a win, but I don’t think it will be the massive victory some of us are fearing.

Things could go a couple of ways, in my opinion.
If Pool are walking all over us, they’ll easily be able to back off and just soak up our lack of attacking threat.
Or, if as I suspect, we put up a decent resistance, they’ll still have too much for us, simple as.

I’m putting this one down as a loss, but it’s more about how many we concede.
If we can keep it less than a two goal defeat, I think we’ll have done ok.

We should also remmeber that we gave Pool one of their toughest games this season, something that I think Klopp called a pivitol moment (I haven’t read that particular story, but it’s out there).

I’m going for a 2-1 defeat, but it really wouldn’t surprise me if we were to actually nick a point.

Nah, it’s just the lack of sun getting to me.

Will Liverpool be as poor in the 2nd half? I hope so but can’t see it happening.

We got to do same second half. A point here if we can manage it is priceless. Lets hope we can come up with a special second half performance. Luiz form continues.

Half time and not bad at all so far. The worry for me though is that Liverpool can move up a few gears, whilst we don’t have that capability. God, being a Villa fan breeds pessimism doesn’t it?

i thought we played well first half, no real clean cut chances for both teams. pool look like they have plenty gears to use. but sofar we handled them well. got to be careful when we have a corner cause they are looking to hit a counter from the clearance. keep in this game and try to steal a late winner would be my instructions. look at it a a point you have don’t lose that.by a mistake and try to take any chances that will present themselves.

luiz is again a standout solid and always looking to cover his mates but he also is very talented on the ball and might have won a penalty a clumsy knock on him. el ghazi looks like he is having his better game. but he needs to influence more to make a match winner.

point so far much better than anybody thought.

Did anyone hear Souness criticise Grealish about being the most fouled player. His response was he holds onto the ball too long and is too slow to see and make the pass. Heskey defended him by saying there was no movement from his teammates. My opinion is that it’s a bit of both!

Running out of games lads. But that was a spirited performance. No one has got a point at anfield this season. Our next two games coupled with results of watford and Bournemouth will define our season. We are not down yet. Keeping the faith until its impossible.

Not the humiliation I thought we would suffer. We battled well but in the final third we haven’t got a cutting edge. 3 or 4 times we countered on them 4 against 3 but didn’t make anything of them.
It’s now 3 teams from 4 IMO but we need goals and I can’t see anything changing.

same old sh it 🙁 much better performance since we returned from covid break. but as much as we have improved without the ball, we still are not premiership quality overall. the second goal was down to us chasing shadows =. first goal was combination of us switching off and liverpool bright and inventive players aware as always.

while their hope still, i will cling to all four rabbits feet and my unlucky clover. got to beat utd next. no more excuses.

we did play decent but that is not gonna keep us up we need wins now not performances

The most frustrating thing is that Smith and Co. will be patting themselves on the back for a spirited performance.
However, spirited performances very rarely get you points and points is what we need right now.Obviously I’m not naive enough to believe that anything other than a defeat was going to be the only outcome today, but figures don’t lie.
We have picked up 2 points from a possible 15.With the results of others down there with us, we have actually had 5 separate opportunities to get out of the relegation zone and yet,the only time we have moved up was after Bournemouth were beaten.
Added to this, only 2 goals in 5 games and, more worrying, both goals from defenders.
Whilst it helps that those battling with us are not pulling away too much,we don’t have the cutting edge, desire and ability that staying in this league requires
The real Villa will turn up against Utd and I can’t see us scoring, let alone winning.Mind you Bournemouth put two past them.
West Ham seem to have the will to fight,as do Watford, although they also appear to lack the quality.
We will need at least 9 points from the remaining 5 games, is my guess.
    You never know.

I’ll take 2-0. It could have been a massacre. I’d wager those fans of the sides around us were hoping for that 7-0 to become a reality.
