It’s only immediate thoughts, but I’m reasonably happy with the result.
I believe we were the better team overall, even though we had a poor first half.
We dominated the second half and if it wasn’t for some very poor defending by Samba, we’d have won this.
What disappointed me most, was the fact that some on here were convinced that we were going to be thrashed.
With even a 3-0 predicted, at one point.
Who needs supporters, when that’s how they think?
Jeez, I don’t expect us to win every game, but my opinion is that we could and should have won today.
And to see so called fans expect us to get battered just makes me wonder what we have to do.
I said that if we won this, someone was going to get both barrels for being so negative.
Sadly we didn’t, because Samba is rubbish at defending.
But we should have won, if you actually look at the game.
Hence I believe that’s 2 points dropped.
No doubt some will say I’m talking out of my proverbial.
But I’ll bet we’ll finish higher than leeds.
And if we do, we won’t be far away.
Unfortunately, I suspect that result might prove really costly at the end of the season.
We need to be winning this sort of game if we’re going up.
That’s a decent point, that I’m sure many of us would have taken, from the off.
Badger I can’t believe you said Samba is no good at defending. He’s done really well since JT got injured. Yes he was responsible for the goal but he did nothing wrong the rest of the game. It’s not Sambas fault that we only created one decent chance for Adomah apart from chance we scored from. It’s not Sambas fault he didn’t score from it. You can blame Adomah for not putting that chance away instead of blaming Samba for us conceding but you won’t because you have it in for him. Grealish was decent tonight and won us loads of cheap free kicks again you could blame Snodgrass for not putting in any quality balls tonight. I was wrong about the scoreline but they were a whisker away from second goal and that would of been 2.0 and game over. Onomah has to have a rest IV never rated him anyway but a spell on the bench may do him good. Lansbury should be given a go as team needs to be freshened up a bit and Hourihan is hardly playing well enough consistently.
I thought we was back in the Don Revie days, they are the most physical Side I’ve seen so far, Samba was a chump being behind the player that headed the goal.I also could see it need Grealish on for ball skills and going forwards, still 1-1 will do me.
What you have to understand Badger is that is possible to support the team but not to be blind to our shortcomings. OK Oohah is relentlessly pessimistic but at least that makes him right more often than he is wrong.
We have a very strong squad. We should be right on the tail of Wolves. We aren’t and some of us put that down to the manager. If you’re not happy with that give us an argument why.
Supporting the club doesn’t mean rose tinted blindness. Optimism is fine. The shit that Nath and others spout is just shit. Saying we are great and going to get promoted doesn’t get us promoted.
A bit of realism is no bad thing.
Your like me DS realistic. Unfortunately some posters see that as negative. Bottom line is we all want the best for Villa and you and me would live the team to prove us wrong. I will happily eat humble pie if we finish second.
“OK Oohah is relentlessly pessimistic but at least that makes him right more often than he is wrong.”
How is that possible when Oohaah says we’ll lose every time and yet we’re fourth from the top?
Can I state that Ooohahh is FAR MORE WRONG than he is right. If he was right we’d be fighting relegation.
I don’t say we are going to lose every game I said we wouldn’t beat leads and I was right. I also they would beat us 2-3.0 and they were a whisker away from going 2 up. In the end we got a point so i was wrong on that score. But I think the team went out with a negative attitude and expected to lose because it was Leeds away in a cold dark night. Bruce must of kicked their backsides AG half time but the subs got us result in end. Hutton was mixing it up with the leads players brilliantly in the second half he was bullying them all over the place. He is what we need in this division
see thats what wrong with fans on here. “””” I think the team went out with a negative attitude and expected to lose because it was Leeds away””””””” could it not be the opposition tactics, was to stopped villa from getting a foot hold in the game.can they not have any credit for not only cancelling villa out, but also imposing their game onto villa. 2nd half you will find leeds couldnt continue to play the same way. pressing like they did 1st half takes alot of efforts and discipline.
Didn’t see the game as still in the Caribbean getting pissed on rum but Leeds scored from their only shot on goal. We had more shots and more on target – compare this with last season!
And remember this is with the spine of the team with long term injuries and kids leading the line (and Grealish is only 21 or is it 22).
In my book that’s some achievement irrespective of what one thinks of Bruce.
UTV
Agree it’s a good result if we are content with top 6 and a lottery play off. But even with injuries we have a team better than most in this division and you have to win virtually every game to go up automatically
Grealish needs to be starting. Should have happened a few games back. He’s easily our most creative player. Bruce’s season plan was him at number 10. Give him a shot there.
Like it Benno, yes he should have been in long ago, DS Villa do you have to argue and name names? I thought it was a discussion blog and at least some do write knowing a little bit more on football, Nath being one of them along with Andrew, i happen to think they talk sense on most posts, Oohah happens to be the comedian of the blog and its been inevitable he’s been right most times by pure luck, let’s face it we have been atrocious over the years, Hitch you lucky sod my take that offer up in a year or two please have a few for me.
It’s not luck it’s realism. When you’ve supported Villa since the old division 3 you just get to know the type of games we win or lose. Very rarely do we ever win a big game like last night it was obvious. Ok I thought we’d lose it and we could of done. But they showed more resilience in the second half but then you have to question why we have gone back to being a one half team
i sprout shit lets look at the facts.
who said why we dont have any strikers on bench ??? well we haven’t any strikers fit enough for bench.so wake up. why question bruce on selection when his hands were tied .
we cant beat a team in a certain league positions. ??? who believed this is delude if you ask me. we are the form team in the league barring one or two. off course we can beat any team in the league. end of season when we all played each other twice we will see our position.
i said pre season we should be around top 2 and i will stand by this, but top 6 is not to be sniffed at either. give me a play off spot now. i personally would accept that. why risk finishing seventh. if your so clever probably that’s were we will finish 7th
some fans bitch on here for the sake of the bitching, a point at leeds is a great result in the grand schemes of it. we havent many striking options poor davis who you said need dropping lmao is the only fit striker. of course he needs dropping, but who shall we replace him with. and resting is want he needs
i think some fans believe we are premiership outfit and too good for the league we are in, thats great. you will not be happy with anything what happens to us this season or years to come. no team has the divine right to win the league. until they win it on the pitch. cardiff and wolves are so far winning that on the pitch. but villa are hard on their tails.
p/s did we lose last night fook sake fook this for a game of soldiers. iam gonna wind you guys up with my negativity. reach for the anti depressives fook sake.
We are not to good for this division and this squad under Bruce would be lucky to stay up in the Premier. Though I do think we have a much better team than the team that took us down. With the money we have spent we really should be at least where Cardiff are and it’s gutting to see teams that have spent a fraction of what we have and play good expansive football and are more or less on same points than us. I woukd of loved Benitez or Wolves manager instead of Bruce. The play offs are a lottery and whether we finish 3rd or 6th it dosn’t matter as we will have as much or as little chance as anyone else
I thought Davis did well. He had 2 or 3 defenders on him most of the time. The goal was shocking defending from Samba, but I thought the team played really well, neat passing and for long spells controlled the ball.
Im normally positive but i had a bad feeling yesterday. I just knew Bruce would set the team up first half to just “cling on” as it were. The gap between Davis and the midfield at times was laughable, just panic passing and long ball hoof. Its annoying because we are so much better than Leeds and imo the best or 2nd best squad in the league. We shouldnt go in to any game with that mentality. So understandably when we go a goal down the negativity sinks in. Weve been hit hard as fans over the last 6 years. The mental torture over those 6 years means its difficult to just spin positive on everything all the time. 2nd half Bruce made the right calls and it worked we looked a different team! The energy and belief was there. Its fantastic to see us challenging this year and a point at Leeds isnt to be sniffed at. Hopefully Wolves lose and its a point gained rather than 2 dropped.
Fair points Adam. It makes you wonder if we were as positive in the first half we may have won game. The buck stops with Bruce
i think were great lmao show me my posts saying this. forget me bothering to post i will let you read my thoughts and post it for me. shit you can pay my wifi why your at it.
cardiff and wolves both deserve their positions, not because their squads are made up of better players or any other reason than they have won their games. they might have not had such a bad dose of injuries. or they just might be better teams.
i am one of a few that doesn’t under estimate the league and all the clubs innit. i certainly don’t think we are great or too good for the league. we are currently hot on the tails of the securing top 6. if top two is beyond villa then playoffs will have to be the next best thing.
forgive me for my opinions i hate to share nonsense. but i wasn’t the one thinking bruce should have more striking options on the bench. when we have no other fit strikers. or davis should be dropped when in fact he should be rested. he isnt ready for the 1st team week out and in . were lucky he has managed to play the amount of games he has done. without him we would be mid table. also those who believe we cant beat a team in certain positions are as deluded as i guess me lol.
so many more games and points to play for. current form says we are worthy top 6 and closing on cardiff, the current form is also deluded. why bother we should wave the flag now in december before other clubs like cardiff and wolves get their share of injuries
i posted this one because the earlier one failed but has re appeared two for the price off one
leeds manager is as crazy as me, he quoted villa as one of the strongest in the league. that’s what i would say, having failed to beat a mediocre side who cant beat any top clubs ????? hang on a minute
ppl are saying we cant beat any top teams in the division with one hand. on the hand they say we should be beating these teams cardiff and leeds. is this just me or does this sound contradicting
cardiff have a far weaker squad than villa bora and derby. yet football doesnt work like that. cardiff have earned their position. if they finish there.then they are better than all below them including us.
season has a long way to go, we could finish as low as 10th quite easily. way things have gone with injuries we have been lucky to have not have fallen further behind cardiff and wolves. surely the injuries will slacken off and other clubs will lose their better players and struggle like we have been doing.
but if we did finish in the championship playoffs we have fans saying we havent a chance of wining. because we cant beat a top / weak club top 6 club. either i am missing the point or thats sounds daft. think its best all round if we finished 7th and let the better clubs fight for the last premiership place.
how many fans would have wanted warnnock as manager ?? iam sure loads would say yeah i would have NOW, after events. if he can finish 2 nd its manager of the year or decade even century.
Great result last night, showed resilience and fought back again away from home. I said Lansbury had a role to play. Grealish did well as well. 10 points from 4 since Terry was injured. We were unlucky as Leeds only had one shot all game. Two easy home games we will win and then beat Derby. We will get second.
We are 5th now , Bristol beat Middlesbrough 2-1
you shouldn’t post anything that might push the depressed over the edge lmao. just to think i asked this blog pre season and middlesborough was the overall red hot favourites on here and with the so called expects and bookmakers, goes to show you, even those with the best squads and those that spend the most money still gives you no guarantee’s in this league,
It’s not whether we are third or fifth in the first week in December that is important – BUT – we do need to be right in the mix now which surely we are?
If we are in top six come January we will be well placed to attack the top two in the run in.
All teams falter at some stage it’s the nature of football – even more so in the Championship – which is hugely competitive.
Quietly confident but accept we have no ‘divine right’
UTV
Dont worry its almost Christmas , good will and all that. I know and you know the second half yet to come. We will do it , i asked father Christmas to help.
Owen,
Yes, that’s how I saw it too.
Leeds, for all their effort and looking the better side, created next to NO chances.
It seems some never noticed that at all.
Look, all I’m suggesting is that maybe it might help if we actually support the team, at least while the game is being played.
Ok, most of us weren’t there, so it doesn’t matter that much, but if it’s a mentality that runs through those who do go, surely it’s not good?
I could understand it if you thought we were being thrashed and looking total crap, but we weren’t, imo.
They nearly went 2-0 up? So what? They didn’t score from open play at all.
We had more shots and with some luck would have won if the goalie had tripped over or mis-handled or something.
It equals things out and all that matters is the score-line.
Which was nowhere near a 3-0 loss.
Give the team and the manager some bloody credit, I say.
And I say that as someone who is quick to complain, when we’re genuinely poor.
In the meantime, B6 has sent me a video, which hints at the atmosphere at Elland Rd.
I’ve added it to the headline post.
I trust you had a good night, B6?
Hear bl***y hear
Very good night thanks Badger. Was that the only video you got cause I sent a few but not sure if they sent properly from mobile.
Yes, that’s the only one I got mate.
I’ve just sent you some more. Think the files must of been to big hence why they didn’t send. I’ve sent some individually.
its fair easier to bitch and moan about the porridge, being to hot or cold. than to stand out in the minority. i don’t mind ppl or fans having views that differ to my own. but i get wound up, when they don’t see the blatantly obvious.
how can ppl not see progress. under atrocious injuries we are suffering. players like grealish and lansbury who haven’t been playing much since returning from their injuries. but they got a look in against leeds and both made a point to regain their starting claims. this hunger to regain their starting place is something we haven’t had in years. somebody pointed out how many points we have claimed since terry injury.
we had a slow start but that was way back. looking forwards, our form is amongst the best in the division. when we get our injuries cleared up we are gonna be stronger. what will other teams do, when / if and when they hit the wall. cardiff keep getting mentioned. i salute them doing far better than expected. but can they lose three or four of their better performers and still keep up their tremendous form.
the games against wednesday and leeds, were very similar to me. they both tried to hustle villa into making mistakes and not allowing us settle. also they both surrounded davis stopping him laying off any balls. against wednesday villa had no answers to this tactic and against leeds villa did have the answer.they turn the game around 100% doing to leeds what they did in the 1st half. in the words of hannibal lecter i do believe we are making progress.
On facebook b6 its showing hole section of Villa fans enjoying the game and singing their heads off, who are you show us the cup, Villa was again well represented. The only down side was 14 year old Villa fans being searched for drugs.in a sense see no problem with that.
Millwall next up – we can win this one. Maybe Lansbury and Grealish will start and give Hourihane and Onomah a rest. Davis has to plough on for now unfortunately. Our away form is now really good as well and we’ve come from behind last two away to get 4 points. Coming back at Leeds was a big sign of how resilient we are despite the injuries. We know we are good st home but look how good we’ve been away recently; 1-1 at Leeds, 2-1 at QPR, 2-0 at Preston, 0-0 at Blues – very hard to beat. 8 points from last 4 games. Slowly but surely we are averaging getting 2 points per game home and away and come May I’m running on the e pitch celebrating automatic promotion.
Here’s largely what some are missing. When we were around 7th-8th, on here we had at least one poster claiming we’ve beaten teams above and below us which wasn’t true. In fact we’ve beaten 1 team that’s been in the top 10 that were a top 10 side when we beat them, which is Ipswich. Every other team we’ve either drawn, lost or haven’t played yet. The point to that comment is if we don’t finish in a top 2 spot, we haven’t proven we can beat other top 6 sides, as we haven’t really beaten anyone top 10 when they were a top 10 side. Yes that can change, possibly if we get the likes of Kodjia and Terry back, but for now, we’ve only beaten lower end teams and while that gets you points, that doesn’t win you the play-offs.
Anyways, Grealish needs to start ahead of Onomah every game. Onomah can come off the bench. Millwall is a game we can rest Davis. Even playing a false 9, but he needs it. We obviously won’t do it, but it’s the only game till January we have that opportunity to do so. Still calling for McKirdie to get a chance. I know he’s more of a second striker, but he’s quick and can play up front with someone like Grealish behind him. Though neither will hold the ball up, they’ll both get fouled more often than not. O’Hare could also play something of a false 9. One I had hopes for and not sure where he went is Abdo. Seems like another kid we’ll just let go without any opportunities at all.
Not really reading too much into the links to Oliver McBurnie on loan. 7 goals in the U23’s is decent but 83 minutes for the worst side in the league by some way isn’t going too happen.
so if a team finishes 6th after 46 games but we only beat them when they were 10th does that not mean we beat a top 6 team even if they finished 6th? i’m confused
no silly it simply means if scum beat wolves tonight they win the league because they beat 1st and best.
this football used to be so easy to understand. league football was simple 1 point draw 2 points a win but teams were drawing and not trying to win. so they introduced a three point system.
now it looks like some want to alter this. awarding more points by beating higher positioned clubs. great idea wont catch on because its stupid
also i don’t agree with playing ohare or mckirdy in the lone ranger position, instead of davis. just my opinion which is worth nothing. they are not suited to the role. why would you want to play both novice kids, that haven’t started a championship game as yet. in a position alien to them.apart from they are not physically suited to the role. they would not get a sniff out of the worst championship defences. not saying they are not ready to play 1st team i think both are close and i want to see them. but give them a chance fook sakes. play them in they preferred positions.
i think the point about we haven’t beaten a proper team all season and wont win the championship, or finished 2nd or even qualify, win playoffs its been repeated over and over, we all agree were are dog shite. can we move on to another topic. like how learner fooked us over, or how lucky was we to swap uncle albert, for that shit barca reject that was costing us a fortune.somebody on here was also said he was the bees and e’s
