Hike toward his blockbuster goal Monday night looked like a steady, gradual surge in ethos for Ashley Westwood.
Frankly he was thick with vitality by the time he scored. Westwood’s 56 ball possessions in the 2-2 draw were 19 more than the next Aston Villa midfielder on that list. In the previous four games this season with Westwood as Villa’s midfield leader in possessions, seven was the average gap between him and No. 2 on the list. (The average gap was 20 when Westwood was a catalyst in last spring’s critical victories over Reading, Queens Park and Norwich).
